  • Time to return to the Titanic! Well not literally. This television event hosted by Telly Savalas promises to open not one, but two safes! By the same producers who open Al Capone's vault, surely this must be better? No... no, it's not.

The large opening is from the impact of the bow on the seafloor

I remember this TV event very well! I had become fascinated with the Titanic about a year before after reading about it in the National Geographic Magazine. This show was one of the first shows I video taped on our new VCR! At the time I thought this was a really cool show and I would watch it constantly for months afterward. Luckily, I was able to transfer it to DVD twenty years later. As I said, at the time this show aired I thought it was pretty cool, but, looking at it now, it definitely was cheesy and in poor taste. The part where Telly is talking about the many features on the Nautile looks like a car commercial.

I don’t blame you though. I live for these kinds of television specials haha

I'd never heard of this before, but man oh man, it sure was fascinating! Kojak investigating the Titanic is something I never thought I'd see. Your narration was hilarious as always!

I didn't know about this event. Great job covering it and keeping it entertaining. You did the watching for me.
Something worth keeping in mind is that much of what we now know about the Titanic was still a mystery at this time. I remember the conspiracies prior to finding the wreckage (space aliens anyone?).

9:14 Wilford Brimley? Nah, that dude's a dead ringer for the MyPillow guy

I Google'd the MyPillow guy and you are spot on. I nearly went with Paul Bearer as well.

These live television "events" are always so awkward and strange, I can't help but love them. I kind of wish they still happened today, although I agree that this one especially was in pretty poor taste. Doesn't hold a candle to Geraldo and the vault!

7:47 let's celebrate what she accomplished by putting eggs on her, throwing some stuff, and pushing her overboard, while she was drinking and talking to others. Loll

Too me it was in poor taste. And two other than a few flyers the Titanic was never looked at as unsinkable.

Yeah it was weird what you could get away with on television back then.
