    Any award that has no real criteria for winning is basically worthless. Marcus smart has more DPOYs than Pippen and Duncan combined. Iggy and Curry have the same amount of Finals MVPs. Nash has as many MVPs as Shaq and Kobe combined. NBA awards have always been garbage.

      The only reason why curry did not win that finals mvp is because the league is protecting Lebum's legacy.

      None of these examples proved anything. Winning more of these awards doesn’t necessarily mean a player is better. Everything happens within the context of that individual season. And you didn’t name a single award winner that wasn’t worthy of what they got.

    The thing is PPG, APG, RPG are just not good enough stats to separate the good from the bad. Lebrons 38ppg on 48% from the field is a much worse season than a 26ppg on 58% from him. But there ARE stats that differentiate such things, and they're advanced stats.
    On/Off, EPM, BPM, Adjusted BPM, filtered stats etc. and many others were created and considered since they correlate most with winning. If you wanted to know that jokic would be a ATG player, you just had to look at his advanced stats from a few years ago when he wasnt putting up these box score numbers but the advanced stats already indicated his class.
    If you want to separate between the 5 mvp caliber seasons, you can look at advanced stats. Jokic is #1 by a landslide in all of them except Dunks and threes EPM. Thats why he was winning and should win
    Shai is knocked for having good teammates, but he isn't randomly knocked based on people's moods without numbers to quantify it. His on/off numbers are not as good since his team is so strong. They would be a very strong team without him. Of course this matters when you want to choose MVP. Its not the most winningest player or the PPG leader or something. And its not like they're "randomly" knocked for it based on preferences. There are numbers that directly quantify the effect of the player vs the effect of the team.
    Many mvp voters use such data in their consideration. its not just SAS style flavor of the week type voting

      On what basis is 38ppg on 48% definitively worse than 26ppg on 58%? Looking solely at efficiency numbers is as flawed as ignoring them altogether, there could be a lot of mitigating factors in the first case that aren’t present in the second

    • @deadlylightningspirit4295
      @deadlylightningspirit4295 4 месяца назад +1

      Advanced stats are also not good. Most of them are affected by how good your team and rotations are. Also in no world is a 26ppg better than a 38 on 48%. Would have to be higher than %60 to even contest

    • @Slitherman96
      @Slitherman96 4 месяца назад

      @@deadlylightningspirit4295 they had to completely overhaul BPM because 2016-17 Westbrook completely shattered the competition in that metric (he broke the single season record at the time and was 20% ahead of the next guy). These advanced stats just come up with some “plausible” formulation of what a great player’s statistical profile and then tweak it so that it looks acceptable. I don’t trust any of them really

    For me I hold an MVP as the highest achievement in sports.. Ant can be a top 5 player someday but not a stat merchant nor will ever have the best season in a given year.. luka and Wemby are the guys to me.. and guys like Ja have the game dynamic enough to win one offs like Westbrook

  • @TheMissiIe
    @TheMissiIe 4 месяца назад +13

    ANT's best possible season would be 32/5/5. That's ridiculous, but it's just less impressive than Luka having 34/9/9, Jokic having 27/13/9, Embiid having 35/11/5.
    The criteria is no longer just scoring and winning. ANT needs to either start playmaking on an elite level, or start defending on an elite level

    I just listened to the MVP segment twice and I still don't understand what you guys are saying... so pls correct me if I'm wrong, your point basically is the MVP awards are not consistent enough in general in picking out the three finalists... and secondly, are you unhappy about the finalists this year? I stopped caring once I say Kobe and Shaq retire with one MVP. I can’t take the award seriously if the main basis of the award is narratives and who’s liked more. The media has killed basketball conversations and awards. They made them all that mattered and then showed they were never watching these people enough to actually judge who deserves these awards. They were just pushing agendas knowing they affect those NBA players lives.

    • @TheGeorgeD13
      @TheGeorgeD13 4 месяца назад

      There's no reason either of them should have gotten more than one though. They were never the clear cut best player except for one, maybe two seasons. They were often in the mix and conversation and did so for a long time, so it may be surprising at first to realize they only won once each, but when you look at each season, there's no reason Kobe should've won in any other except 2008, same for Shaq in 2000.
