a light box or a sliding glass door works excellent to see through the paper

I recently made a lovely copy of the painting, I used a smoothe wood panel, buuuuut, I regret not using canvas like the original. Vermeer made his very smooth, so I thought it wouldn't made a difference, but a wood panel makes it look too flawless and liquidy :(
