Thank you Imran, very helpful. I once had a client who ask me to rebuild his site and do 1 year plan to make content for seo. During the web make over, I made a gantt chart for the timeline. It's a 1 month timeline because he's a busy person. But even 1 month for the web makeover is not enough, he keeps forgotting/ not doing his part of the deal which is the main content. I add another week. But then he dropped everything on the day before the deadline. It's a mess. I feel the website is rushed and incomplete. I'm even ashamed to acknowledge it and put it on my showcase. I cancelled the 1 year plan, can't imagine working with that guy for a full year.
Thanks for sharing your experiences! It helps me improves my client service 😊 Could you explain what does your maintenance plan includes? Is more backend and operational oriented or does includes minor changes for example. There's just one or for example you offer different maintenance plans? Thanks!
I would split them out. Basic Wordpress Updates and Plugin Updates = £X per Month Everything else is Upsells. If they want 3 x Minor Revisions per month (up to 1 hour per month) = £Extra per Month If they want Major Revisions then the cost is determined by the work/effort = £Extra One offs If they want SEO Improvements per Month = £Extra per Month If they want Analysis Report = £Extra per Month
I find it hard to do the upfront payment for the additional tasks, because most of the time during that process, more is coming...so it is always new invoice for small additions...
Agree with most of this I actually provide a list of what could cost extra as part of my proposal so there are no surprises. Also, I don’t believe in 50% to start and 50% when finished, if clients want to work this way I do 50% of the work and the other 50% once the final payment is made. I will even let them know we will not start revisions until the final payment is made.
Absolutely! Desktop first and, sign off desktop first before going onto to mobile devices, much more clearer👍
Smart moves to help protect designers from being in vulnerable situations where clients can potentially manipulate the situation.

Ask them to purchase a block of time, like 6-10 hours or so - then let them know when they’re close to using up the block.

I actually take that approach now too.
I charge prior to commencement of the final stage.
Thus you're not waiting for them to pay :)
Can you I see how your proposal looks like?
