Chicago Basin's Eolus Peaks, CO 14ers! - 360-DEGREE (4k UHD)

The start of this out-and-back trail begins at the upper end of Chicago Basin, near beautiful Purgatory and Durango, CO. The first part of the ascent climbs to Twin Lakes. From there, there's a climb up trail and boulder field, plus some scrambling with decent exposure on the way up North Eolus! Next, we traverse across a rocky catwalk to the exposed scramble up Mt. Eolus. Then back down again to Twin Lakes and then Chicago Basin for about 5.6 miles roundtrip and over 3,300 feet of elevation gain. The views of the lakes below, Sunlight and Windom Peaks, the San Juans, and beyond are phenomenal!
This trail, trailhead, and pass can be found on apps like alltrails and are popular with backpackers and mountain bikers in the surrounding area. Scout out the area for yourself, follow along, look where you want to see, and enjoy the view!
