Early days I saw these guys open for Of Montreal at The Bottom of the Hill in SF. It was the karaoke lineup. I talked to them after the show and tried to convince them to go in a psych rock direction. You are welcome.
I loved Congratulations when it came out too. I agree that in a parallel universe where it was commercially lauded as it should have been, the world would have been saved, it’s true.
Maybe it's just because I'm a fan that loves all of their albums but I think MGMT is one of the most underrated, underappreciated and misunderstood bands of the last 20 years. They have those 3 huge hits and they are all great songs but I never felt there was a dip in the quality of their music. If anything they got better but it just wasn't the trendy style for a pop/rock band in the 21st century to do on Congratulations and the self titled in 2013. Was glad to see they got some radio play with Little Dark Age to bring attention to the groups great new music ...but whatever they do next whether it's popular or not, I hope they keep making the music they want to make.
This interview was a roller coaster
And it’s all amazing

I’ll take your word for it!
And so much later, we find out that Tom is one of the directors of the music video for Bubblegum Dog by MGMT. Love it!
the interview turned into pure chaos when the first guy called in lmao
Pretty sure it was James Richardson the band member
i'm a new fan of the show and i love these reuploads of interviews with musicians, thanks a bunch
