That statement at the end, that the only real / true waste of art supplies is those which don't get used, is really powerful and profound! It's a bit of a curse of perfectionism, of refusing to do something creative until you feel very sure that it's gonna end up in the best possible result.
I refuse to let myself have half finished projects. I learned in High School, by my art teachers, that I need to finish my work. Sometimes something will lay here for a while. Then, I get excited and things come together. Good advice!
I think this is true, because for one and a half years I have not been able to produce artwork not only because of the amount of ideas I have in my mind, but also because of other tasks that consume my energy.
Interesting I never had that thought or problem, usually I hang a lot more on figuring out what I want to paint/draw and feeling overwelmed by the reference photos.
I love it when I stop wondering about what to paint/draw, and just dive in. Something gets released and I'm free!!
Thank you!
Prayers for health and safety!🙏❤🙏

I feel you.
Still working on my task initiation business.
At least I made progress today and painted something.
Taking action is the antidote to “I don’t know what I’m doing excuse.” Ahhh!! The creative process is exciting and uncomfortable AF sometimes.
Thank you for this reminder. I feel good now. 😊
Great advice, Lisa. Thank you.
I tend to have an opposite problem, finishing something :) Even couple of years having unfinished paintings and feeling stuck..
YES... I have just got to finish a large double portrait in acrylics that I have set aside for a whole year now.
Well I FINALLY ordered a drafting table easel from Amazon... now I feel more comfortable & encouraged as I have started back on the portrait. It has SO MANY details to get done and I'm not really a good painter... each detail seams to be such a struggle!!
That picture is looking awesome! I waste so much time because I'm not fully prepared. What should take me 2 days will take a week. But when I have the next object planned, it's done in 30 mins.
Really needed to hear this. I’m inspired to get working
I'm glad to hear that!! :D
oof this defintly hits,... i decided doing it the coin flip style. choose 2 ref photos flip a coin, to take 1, you have 2 ideas on how to do the next step? flip the coin :P
soooo love this, message. Thank you!!!! I'm so right there with the sketch I have started. Canvas on the easel. But just need to start.
So true...just do it. You will have time to change your mind.
😊 makes sense.
It looks great. Organizing reference photos can be a challenge and can be done on cheap sketchbook paper. I have to be stopped when painting because well my body does that for me but I used to be able to just move. Really it is just too much worrying and about messing up when it has to be part of learning and we all will always be learning. 😅
Yes, starting can be the hardest part.
Got an idea for you... a lizard climbing a pineapple
I haven’t been in the studio for a month. It’s summer (allegedly) and I have to take advantage of it!
Does the north pole even have summer though? :P
For painting I have no tips for creativity blocks. But for drawing, I scrible random things on a piece of paper. It could be lined paper or non artistic paper though. I probably would scribble with paint as well, but with a different support.
For 46 years I would place a blank canvas on the easel and walk by it....maybe for 2 weeks...then I would get up in the middle of the night to get a drink of water...never get the drink...start painting...it came all at once..now it seems it has left me...all at once. I love watching you work but I think my days as an artist are over....
Inspiration will find you working. The only way to get past this is to go sit at the easel and make yourself paint.
You used to list what kind of equipment you use to shoot the video. What are you using now?
I suffer from 85% finished and abandoning.
I make myself finish one painting before allowing myself to start another to avoid that :D
Like a sitting boat…
my case witch colours 😂
