- Mcdoubles back again with a brand new video and today I'm going to check out the brand new Oldschool Runescape WORLD OF WARCRAFT private server that will be releasing its CLOSED ALPHA very soon! I'll be able to play that closed alpha and show you guys some better footage of the game, but for now, in this video I want to go over what we've seen so far, let you guys know that I got in to the closed alpha and definitely will be playing it, and talk a little bit about it.

I never could get into Runescape because I found WoW first but seeing something like this is damn impressive.
I found RuneScape first played for a little while then found out about wow in like 2008 or 2009. Never look back lol

they'll have to fight each other in court first over who owns what (Blizzard owns the engine and assets, Jagex owns the Gielinor world copyright)

havent been this hyped for a game in over a decade.
Honestly, this is amazing, one of the very few things that I have been hopeful and excited for in the past 20 years.
if that ever comes out ... i will totally play it :D for me its the same bro i grew up playing Runescape ... later on oldschool runescape and then wow :D
I'm developing a tabletop rpg and a computer game to go alongside it and both have a lot of runescape influence in them so I'm excited to see a project like this.
I really hope this does does an adequate job of capturing the OSRS feeling without just trying to make a 1:1 recreation within WoW. If they manage to leverage the mechanics of WoW, like abilities/gear rolls/mounts, while keeping some of the flavour of OSRS’s classless nature, rewarding grind, and 1-99 skill levels, I think they’ll have something.
I did not know i needed this, but i do need it. This is gonna make me take a break from osrs isn't it? XD
OSRS and wow classic are the only games I play. Once I started with them I never stopped. Def the 2 best mmos of all time

Oh BY THE WAY!!! The gower brothers (creators of runescape) are actually making a new MMO that you definitely want to check out its called brighter shores. Its very similar to runescape looks cool

WoW, such a great idea. Personally, never played RS, and until recently, did not even know what it was. Surely, I've heard of the name, but never intrigued me, as I was massive WoW fan. This would great opportunity for me to check it out in a familiar environment. Anyways, joining the discord as I type, just to follow what is going on.

i'm really excited for this because i enjoyed osrs launch and i played in 2005-2008 but i don't like what osrs has turned into today

For true nostalgia you have to lead new players into the PvP area convincing them it's a hidden OP grinding spot or something I forget what the classic one was. Also WTB GF?

I think the reason OSRS doesn't quite hit the same notes is that it moved away from the classical roots that inspired it- king arthur, old old school dnd, the little milieu of early pc fantasy text rpgs. I think a big problem with modern fantasy games is that they're kind of inbred, where instead of basing themselves on the classics like arthurian legend, tolkien, or just... history, they copy other pre-existing fantasy ips that are themselves 2 or 3 generations removed from the source material. Like Warcraft is inspired by dnd, which is inspired by tolkien, which is inspired by actual culture like beowulf and the kalevala. And that's kind of why osrs falls into, it's creators aren't inspired by historical culture, but by other fantasy stuff they've seen other people make. I know it's a 'who asked' moment but it's a thought I've been having for a pretty long time.
They only need to hold your attention long enough to get your money. Having lore rich stories isnt really part of what theyre selling us these days.
