Chip Kelly and LeSean McCoy had a beef marinated in Chip's "culture"

  • When Chip Kelly showed up in Philadelphia he inherited some truly impressive players, but none more so than LeSean McCoy. They were a natural pairing that immediately left opposing defenses gasping for breath. McCoy finished 2013 as the league's top rusher, Kelly turned a four-win team into a division champ, and then after another year together their journey came to a crashing halt.
Kelly traded McCoy, somewhat abruptly, and the biggest thing he got in return was beef. McCoy made his thoughts very well known, highlighted by a quote about how Kelly got rid of all the good, Black players. It was a twist few could have expected considering how well they had seemed to get along.
But that's beef for you. Even the choicest cut will spoil if you leave it out in a locker room too long.

Man, Chip left sooooooooooooooo many enemies in Philly....You can really do a "Chip vs. the Eagles" entire beef history. It's amazing, because people loved him SO much after 2013....things were really looking up....and then it came crumbling down SO fast because he was so power crazy, and insanely arrogant, thinking that players didn't matter, and his system was going to win every game....The desean stuff, and Shady stuff was particularly egregious....None of the reports of Desean being connected to gangs in LA were ever proven, and the Shady situation was just handled horribly. Whenever people mention Chip here, anger immediately follows. He's one of the more hateable parts of Eagles history.

In fairness, Reid in Philadelphia was both the coach and Co-GM alongside Joe Banner and later Howie Roseman, and had been floundering on both fronts for a few years proceeding his firing. After the death of Jim Johnson (legendary Eagles D-coordinator and man responsible for the dominant, Brian Dawkins lead Eagles defenses of the early 2000s) Reid failed to find a competent replacement. Johnson protegee and current Bills head coach Sean McDermott came first, but was canned after a disappointing season and a half. Then, for some reason, he promoted our offensive line coach to defensive coordinator, while also hiring Jim Washburn as D-line coach who had all kinds of his own opinions about how the defense should be run. This coincided with the Eagles infamous "Dream Team" offseason in which Reid signed every free agent known to man only to produce one of the worst Eagles seasons in recent memory.
The change of scenery was good for both parties I think.

As a lifelong Eagles fan... yeah, this was a rather unpleasant recent chapter. How you keep Riley Cooper after that incident, and then ditch Jackson and Maclin, two guys who definitely fit Kelly's "all speed all the time" philosophy... Yeah, it's a very bad look. Handing him basically GM-level control ended up sinking the team for a few years.

@Todd Lerfahndler I'm not 100% certain about that. The Jags defense, for a while, was on par with where the Pats and my Bills are now, and while Fournette was their whole offense, he was doing a damn fine job driving it. I thought they were gonna be a major force for a while there and that seemed to be the general consensus among most other fans and analysts during that period of time. Hello SB nation. I'm a fan of yours from India and your RUclips series on baseball, basketball and football is the reason I have an interest in these games. But being an Indian, it is disappointing to me that there are no cricket videos such as rewind or beefs. And seeing as your channel is going through a revamp please consider this request. So if and when you decide to make a video on cricket here are a few suggestions:
    Rewinds
    1. The 1983 cricket world cup final
    2. The 2007 t20 world cup final
    3. The 2011 cricket world cup final
    4. The 1999 cricket world cup semifinals
    5. The 2019 cricket world cup final
    6. The famous Edens Gardens test.
    Beefs:
    1. The India Pakistan rivalry
    2. The ashes rivalry
    3. The india Australia rivalry.
    4. Prasad vs miandad
    5. 1980s west indies vs the entire white cricketing world.
    Also for weird rules:
    1. The mankad rule.
    2. The bowl out
    3. The call back.
And many, many more examples. It would please a lot of your fans from India to have their game represented in your stage.
    Thanking you
    Yours sincerely

This is wonderful! A tiny piece of unsolicited if you could you run this by someone you trust: your mannerisms can at times distract from your superb script. I know it’s totally style and it’s subjective hence my run it by someone you trust. Eg 3:40 -4:00. You build tension so well but at times I’m not sure which thought rolls into what so I lose the punch of some of the emotions you capture so well throughout. Disregard if you‘be considered all this and the trade off isn’t worth it - I’d understand obviously and can appreciate your stylistic delivery regardless

I'm an outsider living in the Philly area. It was stunning for me to see how Philly fans bought into the Chip Kelly hire. It was insane listening to The Fanatic and WIP with all of the "WERE GOING ALL THE WAY!! WE'RE WINNING THE SUPER BOWL!!! OUR OFFENSE IS GOING TO DOMINATE!!" etc.
Anyone who has watched football for more than a few minutes has seen this College Phenom nonsense fail time and time again. Chip backed into the playoffs ONCE, (and got smoked) and then outright missed the two other years. Didn't anyone remember watching Steve Spurier? Lou Holtz? Nick Saban? Dennis Erickson? Bobby Petrino? The list goes on. Yes, there are the Jimmy Johnson's and Pete Carroll's of the world, but those are the exception. And they didn't run gimmick offenses.
As a non eagles fan, i enjoyed the Chip Kelly era. Lol!
But then, also showing their lack of knowledge Philly freaked the f*** out when they hired Doug Peterson. The hatred all over this city was crazy for the franchise. They showed their ass further when they nearly rioted after the Nick Foles signing. The coach/qb combo who won them a championship was reviled until the playoffs.
