Two conditions: they meed to play together (Lord&Soma) with all stacks on. During soundcheck Somabhas switched between stacks and it wasn't the same....
I imagine someone running this thing through a Fender 400 PS , a guitar loaded with P90s, and holy hell. I can’t wait for mine to come. Ordered it a few days ago when it went up on musician’s friend.
The versatility of this is pretty impressive . I can get a pretty awesome sound by chasing my Turbo Rat to one of my octave up pedals, but the cleaner tones on this box are just as impressive as the darker, distorted ones.
Sounds glorious, love it... For those who are not lucky to get one... it's no secret that an octaver like the eqd tentacles or a clone into your old rat into a clean boost should get you in the same ball park 😁
@@tomvice The tentacle is just an octave, but it's an analog octave like an octafuzz rather than common digital octavers, so that should be taken into account. Some amount of reverb, preferably from your amp or in the fx loop, is probably also a good idea. Also, it's probably: guitar > octave > rat > boost > amp from their description. Edit: The specific octave is based on the Dan Armstrong Green Ringer, so make sure to use something with that circuit. It verges on a ring modulator compared to most octaves.
Dont know why but when I read your comment I heard Vin Diesel's voice saying it in my head. Hmm...he does have a super clean tone of a voice. Anyways, as they say, when in Rome...
Andy you are a guitar god and you make me want to buy everything you touch but I know I’ll never make it sound as good. You are the best gear reviewer in the world hands down.
Rumor has it that someone knocked on the door that's why he left the guitar there. Then, supposedly, he came back only to find his guitar's high E string to be slightly flat...after inflating, Andy shook it off and filed that day under "Just one of those days..." Best believe it to beaver. To make the long story short, the end.
I gave up on fuzz pedals as I can't dial one in properly and it completely changes my amp tone. I had an EH Little Big Muff, Fulltone Octafuzz and MXR Slash Fuzz. Was going to try a Zvex Fuzz Factory but I am too afraid lol. Then I heard this ED Life Pedal. Thanks Andy. There is hope for me now.
I can’t wait for mine to arrive. Ordered it the day it went up, last week, and they ship out on 1/29. I missed out on the original one, and bc they were limited, the prices were crazy for any used ones. These are limited to 2500 worldwide, so I had to snag it and feed my pedal addiction. Can’t wait to mess around with this and chain it to some of my other pedals.
Yeah, the versatility of this pedal is really kind of amazing, but I see what you’re saying. Trust me though, if he were to tune down to B-flat or A comma we would be entering the void. The intro video over on the EQD channel demonstrates this very nicely.
China or no, hagstrom are fantastic! I have two and would swear my allegiance! And I heard they will be moving production back to Sweden btw. That’s direct from Hagstrom
They both use opamps in the distortion circuit. Although the two 386s in the acapulco works quite different than the 308 in the RAT (which is what the distortion part of the lifepedal is) but it's not completely different things, no.
Barely anything, other than the fact that they both use ICs. The AG is marketed as sounding like a Sunn amp about to explode while the Life Pedal is a custom, multi feature Fuzz that Sunn was involved with. The Acapulco Gold is just a monster of a boost, which distorts itself of course. Two stages - one into another. They call it "power amp distortion" because the LM386 chip it uses is a low power power amplifier chip. It's funny because it mainly slams your amp's preamp, causing preamp distortion. It's no more of a Sunn amp emulator than the Life Pedal is, and that isn't a bad thing. I get it though - it kinda can sound like Sunn O)))'s amps about to blow up. Cool pedal, but it's usability can depend on your amp. The Life Pedal, which has a Rat-like stage presumably uses the standard opamp stage with some shaping and diode clipping.
This sounds a lot like the guitar sound on Sleep's Dopesmoker in the intro parts, except for the octave aspect. What dropped tuning are you using? This is a significant factor in the sound of these type of fuzz units and doom guitar in general (e.g., Iommi used C# tuning on Master of Reality). And I don't even play doom metal guitar, I just like to listen to it occasionally (such as Electric Wizard's ulta so mo doom. :-)

I wonder how this would compare with the BAT pharaoh supreme. is the octave before the fuzz+clip? edit: BTW, this pedal sounds awesome. edit: I went to EQD's website and read about this to answer my question: Yes the octave is first then the dist, then the boost
The octave IS the fuzz. It is a circuit with a couple diodes based on the Super Fuzz and Shin Ei Companion Fuzz, and they are wired before the Rat distortion circuit/clipping circuit, which is wired before the MOSFET boost.
I was really hoping when Andy put his guitar down the next six minutes of the video were going to be just the guitar feedbacking. LOL.
