I hate straight pipes...but that popping on deceleration sounds bad ass. Also, aren’t you worried about the axle hitting those pipes if you go over a bump too fast?
3 inch won't go over the rear end.. 2 1/4 is about all you can go over it without rubbing. I have 2 1/4 over the rear end going to 2.5 tailpipes with 4 inch tips
Forget the 3" exhaust pipes !! You will NOT increase the exhaust flow -- instead you will lose low-end torque, due to the larger pipes stopping the "scavenging effect" of the smaller diameter tubing. The original factory duals on the Panthers was 1 and 7/8ths inches in pipe diameter. They kept the pipe diameters small in order to get the scavenging effect, which helps low-end torque and fuel economy. EDIT i did cut the tips off and put my single chambwrs on and it sounds amazing. I bought my vic with true straight pipes, no cats at all. It's so obnoxiously loud it's the first straight piped car I've owned that's too loud for me. And it wouldn't be that bad but I can't STAND the sound from the murauder tips on it. They gotta come off. I think I'll cut them off and put mufflers in their place so it is closer to how the newer mustang exhausts are routed.
This guy is costing people money, you don't have to cut off your whole exhaust to straight pipe it. Also the factory exhaust is stainless, the replacement pipes will rust out after a few years. And you don't have to straight pipe it add flowmaster or glasspacks whatever you want to it.
My local muffler guy also advised me against cutting replacing the stock exhaust since he said stock is almost indestructible and should last a very long time.
It needs a muffler to clean that blatty popping sound up. It doesnt sound tuned. It sounds like it has s miss. Summit mufflers are 30 a piece and you butt clamp them in for like 75 bux.
I have yet to hear straight pipes that actually sound good…to me. Of course, it’s all a matter of opinion. To me, straight pipes on almost any vehicle are just loud. And to me, there’s a difference between loud exhaust and good sounding exhaust. To sound “good”, I think most of us like something louder than stock. But to just be loud doesn’t cut it. There are a lot of cheap, relatively loud mufflers out there. Everybody makes a cheap Flowmaster knock-off. Even down to the ten series (LOUD). And Dynomax Race Bullets are cheap too. However, I can’t argue with the low cost of cutting off your mufflers. Different strokes! …BTW…Crown Vics rule! I’ve had two…so far…

Thanks for this presentation! A couple questions to make sure I understand as I'm not as knowledgeable as some of you. So has anyone tried to set up a system without the original mufflers but with the resonators still in place (if equipped with resonators as I know CVPI did not have them)? I'm curious what that would sound like. On your car what you did originally (1.0, right?) was to have the exhaust system cut off after the rearmost catalytic converters, and it was good, but that you felt that the exhaust droned too much, especially when taking a longer trip like on the highway. Is that right? ---So are you saying that the 2.0 was simply adding exhaust pipe back in place of the original routing but without the mufflers (or the resonators on cars that have them) resulted in quieting down the droning, but still gave a good or even superior sound?? I also noticed that it appears the exhaust is routed below the rear axle. I routed mine above the rear axle to avoid clearance issues. Or did I misunderstand? thanks for clarifying. Wouldn't simply eliminating the mufflers alone (on dual exhaust Panther models) and putting a straight pipe in place, have a similar effect? I'm asking because i recently picked up a 2007 Town Car (mostly same chassis) and it has the resonators unlike on your CVPI.
Planning on doing same lol! u mean like a walker h pipe then clamp some tips where it ends? did u notice a hp gain i cut off the muffler in my single exhaust and i noticed a slight bit more get up
i’m looking to do the black vic exhaust to mine. (2.0) did u take out the h-pipe and just run 2 pipes? and is the size of the pipes just the stock size?
Interesting video. Yes, you can save some money by doing most of the work yourself, but why would you run the tubes under the axle? Sooner or later the tubes will be bent or crushed by the axle when you go over a bump or a dip and, "back to the shop!" The black Vic sounds good! I think you might shorten the tips a a bit though, because if you happen to be backing up to a wall and forget how long they are, "CRUNCH! Your friends (white) car should have the pipes routed to the edge of the body though, so he doesn't risk carbon monoxide poisoning.
