Dad and I watched this game live when I was 2 days away from turning 8 years old. It wasn't often we'd cheer for Philly as we were in Detroit. At the time, two great blue collar towns with a lot of pride. But our cities did share some core beliefs, like most Americans and Canadiens did back then: Our love of our country and our hatred of Communism. While we all celebrated that day in 1976 and again in 1980 when our kids beat the Soviets in the Olympics, today many of our citizens have no love for God, family, and country. We won some sporting events. Sadly, the Soviets are winning over time.

Wonder if there will be a blue ray relase of the whole 76 hockey season when this event turns 50 and this reminds me of the Saints bounty play in the 2010s I don’t know if hockey will be that crazy again

There is no known complete videos of three of the games played by the Wings of the Soviet (versus Pittsburgh, Chicago and the New York Islanders.) That would be unthinkable today. By the way, check out a book I've co-written about Super Series '76 titled Cold War on Ice.

Now NHL is playing Russian hockey. For the what the bullies did now a player is disqualified, and sanctioned.
That’s the victory of hockey over drunken crowds of spectrum.

Most of the hits were clean, the Van Impe hit was clean, Kharlamov took it wrong, and he played hurt. The Soviets we're met with a mix of the old NHL of world class defensive play and expansion grit, the Leafs mastered trap hockey in the 40s and it won them Cups into the 60s, they weren't boring games, but the Soviets never met that kind of play and it sunk them. The West won that one, and it's a great thing.

@@Derrick667 Fights are apart of the game, Canadians made it, fights have been apart of it since it's creation. The Rangers were not the team they were earlier in the decade, the Bruins were still getting their team together after a massive trade in 75, the Hab's would have won had Dryden not been a sieve. I've watched most of the games most of the games the Commie scum were mostly outplayed, you were mostly facing backup goalies, Gilles Gilbert in Boston, John Davidson, Wayne Stephenson in Philly, and Dryden was always terrible against the Soviets. Hockey is a game of skill, grit, and speed, you had skill and speed but no grit. Tretiak carried the Soviets that series, your Soviet Wings got pounded by the Sabers.

@@Derrick667 Listen Comrade, I've watched every game of the Summit Series, yeah, the soviets had skill, where in the heck is the physicality from the Soviets, they were soft as marshmallows, if you watch the Montreal Canadiens of the 50s you would see a superior brand of hockey that combined skill, toughness, speed, and puck possession. The Soviets copied their style, they did a good job, but they had no toughness, without toughness you are not a complete player.

We'll never know how we would have handled an 80-game NHL season. The way he collapsed from that Van Impe hit, I'd say not very well. If you're talking pure skills only, then yes, up there with the absolute best for sure.

Your comment is adorable. You may think that Philly is a joke, but they beat your red army sissy girl's team bloody, as well as dominating them on the scoreboard, didn't they? The red army team thought that they were the best in the world, but they only ever played amateurs, when they played against a professional team like Philly, they got their asses kicked. Then in the next Olympics, got beat by a bunch of students from the USA. Red Army sucks, "U.S.A., U.S.A!"
