As a Saints fan living in Adelaide that night ranks up there as one of the best I experienced.
Never mind the tropical downpour & obviously parochial crowd,to see my beloved St. Helens live & actually win was unforgettable.

As a penrith supporter I don't think I've seen that great of a defensive line on a team until St Helen. St Helens deserved that win 👏 👏
A lot of that comes from Kristian Woolf, given time at Dolphins you may see similarities
But that wasn't the 2022 Panthers team, we would off thrash them if we still had Viliame Kikau and Apisai Koroisau in the team.
If we would have had Paul Sculthorpe in our team, it would have helped. What's your point?

1st of congratulations St Helens what a huge performance 👏 You have gained a new fan and I'm sure I'm not alone. You don't defeat the Panthers easily! I hope some of the other Nrl teams watch this game because it showcases actual defence and completion instead of flash plays and feeble defence. Few honorable mentions.. 1st to Roby, impeccable service all game. The refs, Ash Klien didn't overplay the whistle and ok maybe a pass call or something wasn't spot on but he allowed the game to flow. Top tier game and it's come early in 2023. Looking forward to next year 🏉💪

True, all I hear is how the NRL is far superior than the super league but here we are watching the NRL champions lose to the super league champions
Well I mean the super leagues recents wins were in 2023 obviously,2017,2012 all the rest was nrl in between them timeframes not counting 2021/2022 because they were canceled but that being said it’s easy to say Nrl have the better record
They definitely proved me wrong. I thought Penrith were gonna smash them.
Excellent game by both teams. The game was as close as it was intended.
In the end the better team on the day won.

Once again Cleary couldnt get his team out of trouble...so much for being the best in the world
Much will be made of Critta's errors (and rightfully so) but the golden boy of Penrith was stuck in 1st gear for most of the game. The really great players can elevate their play and their team's when it matters. Tough game for the Penrith boys but this will give them some fire to start the season strong.
Stunning performance by St Helens. Can't wait to see them playing in the NRL 2023 season..

Very well deserved win to St Helens, with all the possession, penalties and set restarts that the penny pen refs got and they still couldn't score. In the end a close game but that try that was called a forward pass? St Helens were certainly the better team!
This is probably gonna be the story for the Panthers most of this season. They will be missing Kikau but mostly Koroisau for me this early part of the season.

First try for panthers he took out the player so his player could ground it and second try for them someone clipped the bloke catching the ball but it’s penref so I’m not surprised

don't forget the disallowed Saints try for a forward pass that never was, plus the field goal disallowed for blocking, which was also laughable. Saints definitely deserved the win.

St Helens have been playing this hard nosed rugby for about 5 years.. Relentless line speed and contact with great reads on the edge, making oppositions look like they fluff their lines. And they're always direct taking the ball up with purpose. This is the blueprint other Super League teams should try and emulate. Makes up for some World Cup disappointment.. Although Sironen, Matuata and Hurrell was outstanding as well

Saints fan here. I watched the game live this morning. I must admit when we missed the 2 drop goal attempts then the Panthers scored l thought that is it. Glad the team proved me wrong. To complete the day nice to see that Wigan lost at Hull KR.
Well well well a lot of sore Penrith supporters tomorrow. Big ups St Helen’s good work boys!
It was a really enjoyable and intense game to watch but it only really went to golden point because the ref gave dodgy calls against (what would have been) St.Helens' game winning try, for a forward pass that never was, and then for blocking the one pointer, which we probably won't see penalised again this season.
St.Helens are dominant in Super League, with four tittles in a row, and the way they played in this game was no different to how they play at home, week in and week out. They made their fair share of mistakes and it was far from a perfect game. Penrith just underestimated their quality and were punished for it. Well done Saints.

I went into this game with the nrl is so much of a higher level than super league is which for the most case is correct as a leeds lad myself i dont see us having put out that performance against any team nevermind penrith.Props to Saints cant wait to see what you boys pull out this year.
