Actually, this is a classical dance of Ryu Kyu which comes before the Japanese dominance upon the island of Okinawa…even the language is different and it is under extinction…I learned to speak the language of Okinawa but cannot speak Japanese fluently…they are almost completely different from each other…

i grew up watching my obaa-san and her friends dance, one would even dance wearing geta with the castanets. we would attend the annual obon celebration...would this be the proper forum to ask if anyone knows the "dance of the coal miner's daughter?" it was the only dance i was taught...i know the lyrics phonetically and have been desperately trying to relearn or find some place i can try to regain some of my family's history. also, thank you so much for sharing, this has brought back very fond memories.

Yusunu shiyumi…it was 65 years ago….and the Okinawan language is under extinction unfortunately…
FAKTAAV GADO2 lol.. how do u know, even many ordinary okinawan didnt.know the relation between Nusantara and Ryukyu, it is reflected in music ( scale), dance (hands.gesture similar to that Balinese), some historians would agree on this. you can try listen Gamelan Yunta or performances of Sanga Gamelan from Okinawa.
I have always found a similarity between the musical scales and 'feeling' of javanese and okinawan music, and some instances of chanting in okinawan music sound to me more akin to southeast asian music than to chinese or japanese music, but I thought it was only me overthinking it

I do find Okinawan music pretty unique and it does remind me of Javanese music. Although the hand movement might be due to Buddhist influence.

Are u sure it’s not because of Buddhist influence? Javanese were probably Hindu or Buddhist before they adopted Islam.
