    EF 24-105mm f4 on canon r6. It is a heavy combo but being a lazy person who does not like to switch lenses too much, this is the optimal range. Sometimes i just want to travel and walk light and so I just take a 50mm. Nice video. Good luck with the channel!

      Thanks Jack, I really appreciate your taking the time to comment. I think I have been unlucky with the EF version of the 24-105, as over the years I ended up with 3 copies (buying the 5D2, 5D3 as kits etc) and only one of them was crisp edge to edge. I found the two soft copies to be particularly bad in the lower left corner. It sounds like you got a good copy, and I do agree it's a lovely 'walkabout' range...Also while I have the EF 50 1.2L I find the cheap RF 50 f1.8 is good enough for professional work, and as you mentioned it is so nice and light..! All the best, Michael.

    When in NY and Europe I mainly shot the 14-24mm. Interesting how we differ. Ive always hankered after a tilt shift mind you

      Hi @tonyhayes9827, thanks or commenting and Happy New Year! I definitely recommend that you at least rent a 17mm TS-E and give it a try...I cannot imagine not taking it with me on my travels, but then I do love to shoot a lot of architecture. Also it is very easy to handhold, and to my mind is so much easier to use on the mirrorless system. I did see another video here on YT whereby the photographer claimed that you could replicate a TS by using any wide-angle lens and then fixing it in Ps, which is only partially true in my opinion. As such it remains one of my favourites!
      Interestingly I am also considering adding the 14-24 to my kit as it is well regarded for underwater photography on my R5 with an Ikelite housing. Certainly it gets great reviews, and I assume that you are very happy with it?

    On my trip to Greece and Ethiopia, I brought my Canon R3 with only the RF 24-105 f4. It was all I needed. I don’t think anything else can match it for versatility in a travel scenario.

      Yes I do have the RF 24-105 f4 and it is a fabulous lens, in fact it's just under my hand in the thumbnail. I am very tempted by the R3 also... I do photograph wildlife (for fun, not for my business) and I am really impressed with what I have seen regarding its autofocus capabilities...thank you for stopping by and commenting!

    I'd take a 24-200 for landscapes and a 35mm for street. Keeping it simple and light is usually best, taking a pile of lenses just leads to analysis paralysis in my experience.

    • @WorldInFocus_MM
      @WorldInFocus_MM  2 месяца назад

      That's a great range (24-200) that pretty much covers everything...I also use the simple RF 35 1.8 for street, and have been blown away by how good it is for such a (comparatively) cheap lens. I recently shot some portraits of tea plantation workers with it in Sri Lanka and just love the crispness and how portable it is! Thanks for commenting, and I love the term 'analysis paralysis!! So true...

    My go to lens is definitely the Tamron 35-150mm f/2.8-4.0 basically it stays with my 6D mark II all the time! For wider angle shot, just use my iphone.

      Tampon make some really fine lenses, and I can appreciate that the 35-150 range would be really useful for semi wide and details... Do you find the iPhone is enough for the wide stuff though, when comparing the image quality in print..? Thanks for commenting!

      @WorldInFocus_MM Nope seriously that iphone is just a teaser. I always travel with two cameras combo, my Fujifilm X-T2 with Samyang 12mm F2, XF 18mm f2, and the XF 55-200mm lenses. Plus my 6D2/Tamron 35-150mm combo. I love the GPS function of my Canon cause it helps me to sort my photos.

    BTW - the 18-55mm Fujifllm is not weather sealed. I know from experience (and also it is not labelled WR), as it got full of sand on a shoot I did on a beach on a windy day. The 18-120mm is weather sealed.

      @@WorldInFocus_MM Colin - you are of course correct. I have seen a number of claims from various sources that this lens has great 'Weather Resistance' which would have been a better definition. However, judging by your experience - perhaps that is NOT the case!

      Hi @Narsuitus, I'm sorry I didn't reply I'm new to this and must have missed it! I like your selections and you obviously favour primes. Do you ever find it useful to pack a cheap 50mm 1.8 as well? I usually take one even when using the 35 1.8 as it just gives me another (albeit marginal) tighter view at very little weight cost... Thanks for commenting!

      On the other hand, I’ve also travelled with a couple of zooms for more options, but I still keep my kit small enough to not need a backpack.

    What would your take be on the tamron 28-200 mm ?

    • @WorldInFocus_MM
      @WorldInFocus_MM  Месяц назад +1

      Hi @sulogno! Unfortunately Canon in their wisdom has not yet opened up the third party market for RF lens makers, so I honestly can't comment on that lens in use...that said, it really is a near 'perfect' travel range, although I personally would miss the fast 2.8 aperture at the long end of the zoom, as a lot of my travel shots are captured wide open in order to bring attention to my subjects (details, people etc). There's no question that Tamron and Sigma make fine lenses, I just wish I could see one in an RF mount... Particularly given that the new Tamron 28-200 starts at f2.8 (at 28mm), and is f5.6 at 200mm, and more importantly is relatively light with great optics...!

    • @WorldInFocus_MM

      @@rt1998 that's the most important thing though isn't it, I mean if you love using a lens chances are you will get great results from it. Also, you have to ultimately consider where the final images are being consumed (in print, online etc)...some of the cheaper lenses I use (ie RF 50 1.8) are excellent IMO...sure it may not be as sharp as my EF 5. 1.2, but the size and how I'm using the final images all play a part... thanks for stopping by and commenting! Happy New Year!

    I am not professional but what is the best lens in reality is a very subjective question/answer. Everyone has different reasons for their pick. Personally I like to travel light as I am tired of carrying a heavy camera bag with the 2.8 zooms.
    Now I just use my 50/1.8, 35/2 and 20/2.8 and over the years I found that a lot of my shots were around the 50 mark so the 50 is on the camera most times.
    Cheers

    • @WorldInFocus_MM
      @WorldInFocus_MM  Месяц назад +1

      Yes I totally understand your choices, and in all honesty I am starting to tire of the weight when I travel. As you say it really is a very subjective opinion, as we made the video with very much a tongue in cheek approach; I mean how many people realistically are going to want to travel with my (much beloved) 17mm T-SE...? Almost none I would predict...but it suits me. That said, I really love the results I get from the cheap (?) RF 35 1.8, and I suspect that in time I will end up using a similar combination as yourself... Thanks for commenting!

    My kit is either:
    15-35mm f 2.8
    28-70mm f 2
    70-200mm f 2.8
    or I swap 28-70mm f 2 to 50mm f 1.2 if I'm taking a lot of low light photos. If I could take just one lens with me it would be most likely 24-105mm f 2.8 Z. All RF lenses. I don't mind weight that much but I know it is not for everypne. Loved 50mm f 1.2 in Sydney when I visited in 2023.

      Yes I think that is a dream kit! I have the old EF 50 1.2 but I have heard so much praise for the RF I am seriously considering it. My work often takes me to some pretty demanding environments (outback / underground etc), so I was just wondering if you ever have an issue with dust being ingested on the RF 70-200 due to the design? Also thank you for taking the time to comment, and hope you can make it back to Aus one day!!
