Thanks Tim. The D850 is just soooo good isn't it. Can't see myself parting with it anytime soon. The 24-70mm 2.8 pretty much covers everything, including, product, landscape, astro, portrait etc. If I could have only one lens, that'd be it.
Thanks very much for watching. Tough choice, so many great lenses. It really depends on the type of photography you're doing. The 24-70mm is just a good all rounder.
Good idea. I will schedule that in and do that one for you, but it won't be for a while as I have a backlog of RUclips videos to edit and get out. Thanks for the suggestion.
Super perspective on a single travel lens. Shooting Canon R5. Beautiful, RF 24- 70mm f2.8, is my choice for a single lens too. However, heading to Sicily, Liguria then Venice before ending in Rome (full month). Finding myself wanting a little more pull to capture unique landscape images at distance. I hear so many great things about the compactness, lightness (just under 700g) and quality of image from the RF 70- 200mm f4, I am wondering if I will regret not purchasing and bringing it along as a second. Weight is always an issue when traveling abroad. Your thoughts? Have you ever had regrets leaving something home?
Hi Blane - I don't know if you got my last reply? Having issues with the net here. In brief I said I think you've got it on spot on! Well done. The 70-200mm F4 Canon is a superb travel lens and will be the perfect accompaniment to the 24-70mm. It's light weight too. Do love that Canon R5. Safe travels.
Thank you for watching. The Tamron is an awesome lens, great work adding that to your camera bag 👍📸

Thumbs up ere' Adrian, great subject - I always carry 3 while out but can't think of just one unless I just use my phone!!!!! - interesting - many thanks for sharing your work :)
I’m searching for a nikon 24-70 f2.8.. but seeing there are different types. Is there a letter after the f2.8 after the one you recommend? New to photography and just purchased a Nikon d850
Hi Amber - I'm not too sure if Nikon are still making the version 24-70mm F2.8 in this video? If they are, search for Nikon AF-S 24-70mm F2.8G lens. You may be able to pick one up cheaply second hand. Nikon now make the same lens only with VR (vibration reduction) on it. It's bigger, heavier and more expensive, hence why I don't think it has sold too well. Another lens you may want to look at as a good all rounder is the Nikon 24-120mm F4 F mount lens. www.digidirect.com.au/nikon-af-s-24-120mm-f-4g-vr-if-ed-lens?gclid=Cj0KCQjwgO2XBhCaARIsANrW2X3loH-Vvgoa41XnOpU_7kPHtVbddgo9x_DRekpKKSuoeozzCeFEUSUaAlfJEALw_wcB
It all depends on the type photography you're going to do. Personally, it would not suit me as I find the F2.8 far more useful in all types of lighting, than having extra zoom reach. If you were doing mainly sight seeing during the day and doing outdoor daylight type photography then yes, the 24-120mm F4 would be perfect.
@@adrianalfordphotography A dilemma indeed. I have seen a few ideas on RUclips- tours included. I have a D850 with 14 - 24mm f2.8, 80 - 200mm f2.8 and a Tamron G2 24 - 70mm f2.8. I am happy with this gear but it is heavy and if in my bag as carry on luggage it is at about 11kg. As you said sacrificing the f2.8 is a tough compromise. Thanks Adrian for your feedback.
Very interesting! My choice would be between the 24-70 and the 70-200. Final call would be whether my destination was more about landscapes or wildlife!
Greetings, heading to 6 countries, and passing through the Panama Canal, too. I had planned on taking all my good lenses, which include most of what you showed in this video. I shoot a Nikon D750 and love it! Lenses were going to be: 50mm f1.8; 14-24 f2.8G; F24-70 f2.8G, and 70-200 F2.8E FL. In the end, I may still take them all, "just because". But, your reasons for knocking down to the 24-70 are sound, and I will definitely consider your comments. Thank you for the very well-reasoned commentary, and solid decisions!!! Take care, and God Bless! Doc Mark
I also own the Nikon D750, I use as my back up camera. Fantastic camera! Enjoy your trip through the Panama Canal, you're fully covered with that lens range you're taking, all brilliant lenses. Thanks so much for watching my video, really appreciated.
Nikon glass is fantastic. Hopefully they can become more popular again in the future. I traded my D5600 for a Panasonic GH5 because I'm more focused on video. If the Nikon had a DSLR or mirrorless with great video options and a flipscreen, I wouldn't have bought the GH5. Thanks for making this video.
Thanks so much for watching. Awesome camera that GH5. Brilliant for video. Nikon have started with the Z6 and Z7 cameras, but I still believe they have a bit more to go to catch Sony and Canon video wise (and a flip screen). I'm excited to see the next generation Nikon Z cameras because they would have ironed out some of the little bugs with the first gen cameras. Cheers!
Thanks so much for watching. I'd have to do some research into whether it made any difference getting either the Nikon or Tamron image quality wise. Then work out if the cost difference was worth it. If both put out the same image quality and were reliable and focused well. I'd go for the cheaper of the 2.
I've also been asked a lot about other lenses for other brands of cameras, here are my suggestions: Sony I recommend: Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 or Sony 24-105mm F4 Canon I recommend: Canon 24-70mm F2.8 or Canon 24-105mm F4 Happy travels and thanks for watching 📸😀🙏
For a M43 user its really amusing when you keep calling those lens "compact" Adrian :-) Nice video though and I would kinda agree with your focal length conclusions. I love my Pan Leica 12-60 f2.8-4 (24-120 equiv) if I only want to take one lens.
Many thanks for watching Cliff. I was thinking if I had a Nikon DX camera I'd go for something like the 18-200mm VR2 lens. That would probably cover everything travelling.
I use a D850 with a 24-70 for 80% of my shots. Great choice you made. It is nice to have the zoom of a 70 and the wide angle as well.
Thanks Tim. The D850 is just soooo good isn't it. Can't see myself parting with it anytime soon. The 24-70mm 2.8 pretty much covers everything, including, product, landscape, astro, portrait etc. If I could have only one lens, that'd be it.
A fabulous run down on the lenses. Loved your gallery of shots coming through the video too - all beautiful.
Thanks very much for watching. Tough choice, so many great lenses. It really depends on the type of photography you're doing. The 24-70mm is just a good all rounder.
Hello Adrian, can you please compare between 14-24 f2.8 and 16-35 f4.
Thanks,
Arvind

Thanks mate. It's so hard to pick just one. I literally have to pack 2 suit cases now. One for clothes, one for gear. Have an awesome week, cheers!

Would the 24 - 120mm f4 for be a good choice for travel (using D850)?

Perfect video! The information was delivered well. I liked the way you eliminated and explained why.

Hello sir, can i use nikkor 18-140 f3.5-5.6 with my nikon D850?
You can, however it is a DX lens. I prefer using the FX lenses on the D850. I would use something like the Nikon 24-120mm f4 G VR lens instead.

Hey Adrian, could you please suggest me best zoom lenses for nikon d5600??
Thanks for watching. Best zoom lenses for what type of photography exactly? Nikon have a massive range of APS_C zoom lenses.
Well, a zoom lens which is all in one for d5600, example: portrait, wildlife, travel photography 😀 etc.
@@EpicBlend1992 I’d be going for this … photographylife.com/reviews/nikon-70-300mm-dx-vr-af-p

@@EpicBlend1992 yes it will

Absolutely perfect video.

That the one I would have picked Adrian.
Thanks for sharing
Hey Tony, thanks heaps for watching. It really is a great lens for everything. Cheers!
I plan on getting the 24-70 soon!! If you were to choose between the Nikon 24-70 or Tamron variant which would you choose if you didn’t own either yet

Sigma F/2.8 17-50mm for my Canon 800D (7Ti) is my every-day lens.
Awesome lenses that Sigma makes, really top quality. Thanks so much for watching 🙏
I have Nikon d850 which travel lens i would go for
Either the Nikon 16-35mm F4 VR or 24-70mm F2.8 will work.
The 50mm 1.8 is sharper than the 24-70...
But the 24-70 is probably the better walk around lens...
True. Thanks for watching.

Very good fantastic video I liked 😘 😘 😘

I have used both 24-70 and 16-35 both f2.8 for family and landscape as we trek. I think 16-35 is more versatile to my type of shooting. My 2 cents.
Thanks for watching.
Hate the 35 and the 50 focal length. I will pick two prime lenses 24. And 85
