If you are going to try some white again I highly suggest you trying Serra Paragon. It provides an Insane Endgame, randomly blocks pesky Flyers, which are usually a real pain to deal with. One particular card that it's really great to pair with is Cathar Commando. Can Clock for 3, blows up leylines or Scions and goes 'infinite' with Paragon (sac it on your Turn and recast it in response to its Trigger) + it's 2 MV so Restoration returns it as well. My build is not up to the Mhayashi standard of mono 4 offs anymore but it performs really well for me.
Super cool that you branch out to Pioneer. Love the format. By the way, Here in Germany there is a radio play series that has actually heard every child at least once, which is about a few young detectives. They have a parrot in their headquarters that sounds just like your bird. So I always get childhood flashbacks when I hear the bird sound :D
Hey! Great running into you today on MTGO. I wish I had been more competitive, but I'm still getting used to the client which is very different than Arena.
It was seeing you too! I think it was yesterday though (we're probably in different time zones so maybe we're both right lol) Anyway yea MTGO takes awhile to get used to. I recommend playing in the tournament practice room for awhile until you get the hang of the client. Losing games due to client issues or time outs related to using the client slowly are the worst, and the players in the tournament practice room are surprisingly solid actually
Nicee!! I do really like this version of the list. It tackles izzet phoenix and lotus field decently. Is there any otjer replacment for shadowspear? Thinking of bringing a similar list to my fnm.
Yea I think Shadowspear isn't as necessary because one thing I didn't realize when I made this video but I realize now, is that Buzzcrusher can actually kill Lotus Field without even needing Shadowspear because it targets without saying target. Glad you like it, I think the replacement depends on which you're more concerned about, indestructible cards or burn/aggro. If it's indestructible cards, Rebel Salvo gets the job done rather nicely. But for Burn, I think good old fashioned Candy Trial is probably the best Pioneer has to offer for Mono Red believe it or not.
Somewhat unrelated, but are you excited about laelia, blade reforged becoming modern legal once MH3 comes? Do you think it has a place in mono red and could boost the archetype? I'm also partial to the new Magda coming out in thunder junction.
If you're referring to the one that grows with cards exiled from anywhere, it could be interesting but I'll need to see it in action to get a better feel for what it really brings to the table.
Yes, and I have at least one video on it, maybe two, but the issue is that I found that Volatile Fault was just kind of better. It also blows up lands on turn two, but it's also just additional copies of LD.
@@Magic_M_Hayashi Apologies if you mentioned this somewhere and I missed it, the gearhulks are artifacts, so your sideboard wear//tears could be helpful against them (and against the tokens used make them)
Thanks! Also the reason I'm trying out Pioneer is that it's both a curiosity I wanted to explore, and also Modern is a little silly at the moment because of Leyline of the Guildpact and Scion of Draco.
Agree! Modern looking ridiculous at the moment in terms of gameplay and meta. Try to compare Modern last year compared to now. You can put high cmc creature turn 2 with Goryo. Turn 2 Hexproof, lifelink, flying, trample, vigilance, firststrike with Scion. You can ramp then turn 3 creativity for 1 and you get a ton of value with a 6/6 flying Cruelty. You get hit with turn 1 2x discard effect for "nonland" forcing you to top deck mode before you can even play a land and have a 4/3 Menacing body to deal with. It feels like modern right now is you either you have an answer or youre done cause of these turn 1, 2 or 3 powerful spells. Yes youre not immediately lost but feels like like it once they do this combo, no more playing around stuff like before, you either have answer or not, if not then sorry you haven't lost yet but with the board state yes you are. And they say they can't unban Splinter Twin because of this and that. I'd say even if they unban Twin it will not have any effect in the meta. And they say Fury is the reason why agrro decks are gone! Oviously game designers don't know how competitive Magic works. That's why I'm considering to transfer to Pioneer as well depends on popularity locally or transition to One Piece TCG completely.
@JifuChan yea, pioneer has issues too though. It's still affected by FIRE design, just not as super turbo charged as the Modern Horizons sets were. Honestly, I've been having more fun jaming my modern res deck in freaking Legacy than Modern. At least the dumb combo decks don't waste my time killing me lol

We need your 8 fields in modern rn. All color variants!
Working on it! Pick your poison might actually help against those dumb Domain Zoo decks, but Leyline still needs to get banned

That's very sweet to hear, both about pioneer and my bird :) Thank you very much for sharing!

You can also do Worldspine Wurm and Xenagos and usually win on the spot, but playing the Gearhulk/Opus version gives you a better backup plan.
Yea Gearhulk seemed to get the job done good enough by itself.
LET'S GO!!!!!

Torrential Gearhulk is in fact the most broken stuff you can do in Pioneer (for better or for worse).
Yea, seemed solid, I guess it's less solid in Modern because Counterspell kind of makes it look sily
@@Magic_M_Hayashi I mean there is just no better value / big body creature in the format 😅
