    I really like your reviews, I have seen other popular RUclipsrs (no need to name them) and none mention some of the usability issues that you describe and that for me are very important, so thumbs up! 👍👍👍 For instance I'm triathlete, in T1 I have to take off my watch to remove the wetsuit, if the strap is such a problem that would unnecessarily complicate things. Anyway I think you are spot on with the review.

    M3 is an interesting choice. Theres lots to like here but even so for many theres to many bells and whistles with pointless materials. Ive used polar for many years. Ive used other brands alongside, but always polar constantly. I hear all the criticism about the watches and the software. At this point i dont think things should be added unless they add real value. Polar is very simple to use. Theres no rocket science here, and its very accessible. In my view the training analysis is some of the best in the industry. While its clear the M3 is a clear response to various garmins, Suunto Race S and now coros pace pro, im not sure its the best move with this space being established and very populated. I love Polar but i would be a liar if i didnt say they was a little behind now. What i think needs to happen is a watch that is fully festured like the M3, but with a MIP display, hard plastic durable screen thats recessed. And of course a nice large battery. Theres a reason why ive mentioned this. All my running friends mostly use Polar. Pacer pro, M2 and V2 are the most common. None of them care about Amoled, none care about metal. All care about functionality and battery. I think if the M3 was plastic, and retained the mip display but had all the new features on the V3 and x pro2, but at a cheaper price, they would have had better sales. Maybe 2 versions. A sleek one fir runners thats more like the ignite 3, and more of a tactical type M3 thats more aimed at budget grit x people. I dont think the M3 in this form was the answer. Amoled i feel is a trend and all the manufacturers are throwing out a great technology the really helps battery life.

    Thanks for the video. I would like to find my next watch and this or Suunto Race S non titan version are my picks. Now I have a Garmin Venu 2s, and I know both would be fine, but I have very narrow arm. I wanna try something else than Garmin. What would You suggest for a non runner woman? I use fitness functions, I am dancing, stretching and cycling and I do not want use always my Garmin Edge 840 for every km I do on my bike. I really like the idea of leg test or what is the name, or as a woman, listening to my skin temperature, but are these really work in real life? Thank You!

    • @ActiveIdeas
      @ActiveIdeas  Месяц назад +1

      For your needs.. it actually sounds like the Polar M3 is a better fit! I personally prefer the Suunto but it doesn’t do skin temp tracking or any cool tests like polar does! The polar isn’t perfect but it’s better value than Garmin and perfect for non-runners! Do skin temp & fitness tests have any real life value … that’s a better question but tbh, I’m not sure 🤷🏽‍♂️ I like skin temp readings but sleep tracking is better on Suunto and as an insomniac I’ve found polar to completely miss lots of my sleep/naps (messing up all the recovery data). The tests are cool but I’ve never thought to use them.. I prefer sport specific tests and think they have more value .. FTP for example rather than some random jump test…
      Hope this helped ❤️

    Nice and comprehensive review! Otherwise, against all criticism for polar watches, 1 thing may i say: suunto (great for outdoors with most reliable ABC function) and coros have every monday training load ZERO! Would i need more to say? I think people mostly confuse gadget watches with reliable sports watches as polar watches have always been. With all my respect.

    Can it be easily set for always on display? In your video the screen seems to only stay on for about 2 seconds at a time.
    I want to be able to glance at the watch to see time without having to flick my wrist all the time. Currently using the old Polar vantage V and love it, but the mapping definitely needs to be updated. I love that the display is always on and tha is a key feature for me... I want a watch to see the time, not a black screen

    • @ActiveIdeas
      @ActiveIdeas  2 месяца назад

      The always on display modes are quite limited actually! You can turn it off or on.. but it would be nice to be able to adjust the duration of when it shuts off as like you’ve mentioned it’s quite aggressive.
      With this nice M3 you can get always on to always show the time (just figured it out) so you’re in luck there but I’m not sure how much this effects battery life.. tbh polar AMOLED battery life has always been super impressive so I expect nothing different here. Hope this helped 🔥

      Sorry to hear about your Fenix 6, Abie from this channel had her Fenix die too. She switched to Suunto and hasn’t looked back! Between the M3 & Race S I’d get the Race S. It’s cheaper, has better maps, insane battery, insane GPS accuracy, good HR data.. lots of sports modes (more than you need) and the software is on another level. The M3 hardware is really cool but I would say Polar are a couple of years behind in software development compared to Suunto and you really feel it when using the watches and phone apps side by side. Hi! I’ve been looking at Black Friday deals myself, and the Polar Ignite 3 caught my eye. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have an altimeter, which I’d need for hiking in Finland and abroad. What do you think about the Polar Vantage M3 and the Garmin Venu 3S? The Venu doesn’t have a map app, but the M3 does. I read that the M3 is otherwise a good sports watch, but apparently, the battery icon is always at the top and pops up automatically. There’s no option to disable it. Do you know anything about calibrating maps on the M3? Polar is apparently behind other brands like Garmin and Suunto.
    I have a narrow and slender wrist, 180mm. My hobbies are indoor climbing, swimming, badminton, cycling, and of course, hiking. :) Do you have any other watch recommendations, for example, from Garmin? My budget is max €400, preferably less if possible.

      @@Annililia Hey Annililia! Yeah the Polar Ignite 3 is wicked! It’s a shame it misses a few features for you! I hear there are some great Black Friday deals on the Polar V3?
      The M3 is a great watch!! You’ll really love it.. although your 180mm wrist sounds quite big!? Like a large man’s wrist? If this is the case I would avoid these smaller watches as they might look too tiny. My wrist in this video is 165mm. Also, you have some great hobbies! I would consider the Amazfit T Rex 3, the Polar V3, the Suunto Race or the Garmin 965 as they’re all around the same price and features (some better deals than others). Hope this helps 🫶🏽

    I was waiting for this review, so nice you've compared the Vantage M3 directly with the Race S (titanium)! Such a shame that the software is behind of its competitors.
    I do like the sleep tracking and nightly temperature of the M3, but you and also The Quantified Scientist said it was not really that accurate.
    Like you probably already know, the move from Suunto to store your data in China is not something I'm a fan of. Other than that, Suunto has a great proposition.

    • @iggalan
      @iggalan 2 месяца назад +1

      I am currently using a Coros Apex 2 that has a MIP screen and it's fine for indoor or outdoor swimming but I reckon an OLED screen would be easier to read in an indoor pool that may not be too bright and also with the goggles, water and all. If you swim a lot my recommendations are: 1.- Coros, so far 100% precision detecting flip turns, so distance and pace is always right; plus it has drills mode and distance alerts. 2.- Garmin, it detects random turns from time to time but it's not too bad, it has drills mode and every possible alert you can think of (time, distance, heart rate, etc.). Suunto is much weaker, the turn detections is worse than the other two plus no drills mode, no alerts (and when you swim you need your watch to vibrate to notify that you're in the last lap because obviously you can't look at your watch without messing your stroke). I don't know about Polar I haven't used if for years.

    • @iggalan
      @iggalan 2 месяца назад

      BTW on the open water the Suunto Race S is a disaster, the water blocks the GPS signal so you need clever software to get a somewhat accurate track. Garmin, Coros and Polar do well in this are, Suunto doesn't.

    “Sleep tracking on Polar is quite good” Polar- 11hrs, Actual sleep- 4. Only 7 hrs off. Not bad. 😂
    I’m surprised that the screen is dimmer than Garmin. Where I live the Garmin is hard to see in direct sun, so this won’t do.

      I can see why so many triathletes love and choose polar. There’s a simplicity to it which also allows you to dive into the data if you’re looking for more. Little touches like the Polar fitness tests and the ECG are all really awesome. I’m about the film my full review for the M3 but I think my overall thoughts are that it is a fantastic piece of hardware.. but the software is in major need of an overhaul. For this reason, yes.. it’s the Race S for me. Hope this helps ❤️

  • @blackhawk69100

    It’s a tough sell against Suunto, garmin and now coros. They simply all have better features. But the real strange thing about this watch is how it seems to have been made to sabotage it own line up. Hear me out. The M3 offers everything pretty much the V3 and the grit x 2 pro does. Both those watches are over £500. The M3 is £350. Polar now have made a rod for their own back because there’s no real advantage to the other watches over the price now. I get why the watch exists. But what I don’t get is why it’s fully featured. I mean yes it’s great for the consumer, but stupid for polar surly.

    • @ActiveIdeas
      @ActiveIdeas  2 месяца назад +1

      There’s definitely some crazy decisions being made over at polar 🤣 Seems like they’re reacting to the market rather than taking proactive steps. The M3 is great but I would argue even the M3 is over priced for what it does. The software is just so behind its competitors at the moment.. and if the M3 is over priced then the V3 & Grit X2 Pro are MILES off what their pricing should be. What’s scary is how little improvements they have planned for software and how long they’ve promised consumers these changes will come (next year) it’s too long & too little 🌟

    • @blackhawk69100
      @blackhawk69100 2 месяца назад +1

      @ I moved from Polar to Suunto because it was stagnant. I really don’t see how the M3 will attract sales when everyone already has a garmin or a Suunto now. I know this watch is a response to those watches, but they all have generally better features, and have been around longer. I saw the Race s reduced recently on Amazon to £285. But even at £325, what chance does Polar stand with stale software and a few IOUs that only brings it up to near parity of the others. The only thing Polar has going for it is its browser based training tool. But still, it’s not like you can’t replicate that on the other platforms to some degree in some form. I didn’t mind my ignite 3. I think that was better priced at the time it was released. I think polar has to realise hardware isn’t really the issue. It’s definitely software that’s the real problem. But in saying that, if you love polar and don’t want to change brand, this is probably the one you should get, as the others don’t really add benefit. At least they don’t in my eyes and I’ve used Polar for a very very long time. Still on the fence about a Suunto Ocean. I think once I see the first sale, I will pounce lol

    • @ActiveIdeas
      @ActiveIdeas  2 месяца назад +1

      @@blackhawk69100 I can’t argue with a word you’ve said 👏🏽 Like you said, I think Polar are in a place where they’re not attracting customers but just trying not to lose the customers they already have haha.. they’ve got to find a way to drive the price down, or invest in more software developers or it’s only going to get more rocky from here on.
      I will say, polar have a masssive following within the scientific community. Most of their older products have been tested for validity and reliability and for scientific experimentation no questions are asked when you whip out a polar chest strap 🔥They also have a large following within the triathlon community and I can see why someone training for a triathlon would love Polar.. little things like how easy it is to set fuel reminders or look at carbs/fat distribution are easily overlooked. But for everyone else, this watch could be abit too dry

    • @blackhawk69100
      @blackhawk69100 2 месяца назад

      @@ActiveIdeas and there you have it. You hit the nail on the head. They need a seller, not a watch that appeals to certain segments. And that’s exactly what Suunto have finally managed to do with the Race, but more so the race S. They understood the market, and understood who they wanted to attract. And they nailed it. Now Polar needs to do this also by replacing the Pacer pro and ignite 3 with something really aggressive, that has the same basic hardware and software features the competition has. But really needs a platform repaint at the very least with more widgets on both android and iOS. Get that info glanceable at the very least like on Suunto with android.

    • @Tris77-m6f
      @Tris77-m6f 2 месяца назад +2

      Interesting view on things. However don't underestimate the power of simplicity. I agree entirely the new Amoled range is indeed overpriced, but don't be so quick to sideline Polar. As mentioned above, they do indeed have a very dedicated following. Part of that following is because the watches are basic to use, have industry leading chest straps and very detailed training analysis. The fact that Polar flow web app can be used on just about anything with a web browser is very valuable to athletes or people who are serious about long term training or goals. I agree entirely as mentioned also above the mobile app needs features to bring it up to scratch such as POI etc and ( a lick of pain ). But the app also does things well that are taken for granted. Everything of relevance is in one place and it easy to use. As far as watch software goes, it's not that bad. It has full widgets/cards scrolling left to right, quick settings, and actual screen lock ( looking at you Suunto ). With Suunto it's all vertical with only 1 widget. The hate Polar receives is not justified. It's a very capable platform with many strengths. Yes it might look a little tired, but it's more then functional.
