  • It’s getting really expensive out there for us Regular folk. So I’m going to take up an old regiment. Making my own potting mix. Here’s the basics 1/3,1/3,and 1/3. Peat moss,or coco coir, compost, pine bark mulch. This alone will give you fantastic results but with a little help this soil will give your figs everything they need to really thrive. #garden #gardening #figs #figtree #figtrees #fruittrees #treeplanting #mycorrhiza #spring #pottingsoil #compost #mulch

Many mfgs get their ingredients from the same source but what makes them stand out is they do like Regular John does, only difference they tweak the percentage and maybe add some of their own proprietary magic to it.

I mix all purpose sand, peat moss, perlite, bagged compost, lime, shake and feed fertilizer. My flowers and vegetables do great. Black cow products are great. I use their potting mix and manure. I buy the timperland compost with humus. If i use a bought potting mix i mix humus in with it. This is a great mixture and like he said there are many homemade potting mixes on you tube for the different varieties of plants and shrubs in pots. Some plants don't like peat moss do be careful with what you use. Been doing pots for almost 20 years for people. Love working with different plants of all kinds. I've had roses in pots for about 9 years. Just watch your type of potting mix. I add bone meal to my potting mix and use alfalfa meal around my roses in the spring. You can use the alfalfa pellets also. Cottenseed meal is another great thing for different plants. Go organic and we can stop all the synthetic fertilizers. Blood meal and bone meal have many uses. I only use organic material on my grass and watch what i spray weeds with. Save the bees and birds. Save the ladybugs. We're killing all our beneficial insects.

I would add perlite or a 50/50 mix of perlite and vermiculite to this for aeration and drainage. About 24 oz per 5 gallons.

@@johnathantaylor3199 pricy. Any bagged potting soil I would still add 1/3 the volume in fine pine bark mulch.

Do you mix peat, mulch and cow poo into soil or is the soil just those three ingredients?

Yes ma’am. The soil is these three ingredients.
