  • Fox Sports’ lead college football analyst Joel Klatt discusses the biggest games and storylines from Week 13 of the College Football season. Joel opens with his main takeaways from calling the Big Noon matchup between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines. Joel believes Jim Harbaugh has been building up to this point since 2018, and Saturday’s game was an example that proves the gap between the two programs has closed. Then, Joel shares his thoughts on the fallout from Ohio State’s loss. Next, Joel discusses USC’s win over Notre Dame and another really impressive performance by USC QB Caleb Williams. Finally, Joel shares his thoughts on Nebraska’s hire of Matt Rhule to become their next Head Coach as well as Wisconsin’s hire of Luke Fickell.

I only hear Michigan fans saying it to be honest. But other than Illinois, you have to go back to the Iowa game to find a team that scored more than 3 pts in the 2nd half vs Michigan. They are WILDLY good in the 2nd half.
      2nd half points scored by:
      Indiana: 0
      Penn State: 3
      Michigan State: 0

Your deep take on what Harbaugh did to turn Michigan around is spot on and it can't be overstated. The fact that he has gone against what everyone thought Michigan needed and instead made them into what they are. For a very, very long time Michigan had no real identity. In the 80s and 90s they were so dominant over Ohio State because they had an identity and they came into The Game with balls every time no matter their record. That's why in 95 and 96 they beat back to back ranked #2 OSU teams that were incredibly talented (Michigan was ranked 18th and 21st iirc). Those teams understood that, while their season was middling, it can all be resolved by winning this one game.
Braylon Edwards talked earlier in the week how there are no excuses for losing just because a guy is injured (Corum). Players have to step up. And literally the entire team stepped up. Sanristil's PBU and just play in general, the O line smashing in the second half, Edwards playing with a broken thumb and taking hand-offs in his opposite hand and still looking like a track star, CB torching the secondary all over the field, and JJ stepping up into the role he was expected to be all year. Great players, when given the chance, show their greatness.
This didn't feel like a rivalry for a long time. Now it's back again. This rivalry has always gone in streaks. Seems like a new one has started.

First of all congratulations to the University of Michigan from a Buckeye fan. They played to win and did so. By far the better team Saturday.
TOSU played to not lose. Zero adjustments by Ryan Day and Jim Knolls in the 2nd half. Kept trying to run the screen even when it was clearly not working and at one point almost picked (I wish it was so I could of just left early). At times it honestly looked like the play calling was for when they were winning and they didn't have a playbook if they were losing.
On to next year. I'll watch whatever bowl they get to see next year's starters because you know CJ and them aren't going to play. They do not deserve to get a spot after Saturday. And also, CJs comments after the game about how "one game doesn't define us" I'm sorry, when you go to one of these two great programs, it does. @@cjmike1024 I’d like to see a couple five star receivers like OSU has had lately.
JJ goes into this off season knowing he’s the starter and working on his long ball. He has more than enough arm, he just needs to dial it in. And call me crazy, but Tom Brady being a bachelor now, imagine him being there as any kind of resource for the kid.

Regarding Day’s record, let’s not forget that he was not coming in to rescue a bottomed-out program (like Harbaugh was asked to do). No, Day was replacing a HC at the height of his powers and who was forced to leave for off-field reasons. He stepped in to a mature, elite program with an existing recruiting advantage and an established record of success. Other than Alabama, OSU has basically been the best, most consistently successful program in CFB for the last 20 years.

I would like to thank you very much for what you said about Ryan Day at the end of your Michigan-Ohio State commentary. Ryan Day is an awesome coach who cares greatly about his players. In spite of any game losses and on-the-spot errors in judgement, I think that most Buckeye fans realize that Ohio State is very fortunate to have him running the program. One thing that struck me recently was toward the end of the Maryland post-game press conference last week when he said, "Coahes run, too, when there's penalties." So, he obviously takes his responsibilities very seriously while showing the coaching staff's commitment to all being a part of the team.
But what I would like to point out today is that Jim Harbaugh began his tenure as head coach at the University of Michigan in 2015. That means it has taken him 7 seasons to build the team he has today. Ryan Day took over as full-time head coach at Ohio State in 2019. So, like Harbaugh, he deserves the courtesy of time to build the team he desires. I think we all recognize that as good as his team is this year, it is still a work in progress.
