Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.0l with 400hp Hybrid Turbo - boost and intake temperatures -- 29psi!!!

  • We did datalogging on the boost and intake temperatures of the gottuned 400hp hybrid turbo on the Alfa Romeo Giulia ti 2.0l. We looked at MES or multiecuscan datalogs versus JB4 versus the Vaitrix boost gauge direct wired to the map sensor.
We purposefully heat soaked the car and evaluated how well the stock air to water intercooling system works as well as the potential for a heat exchanger upgrade.

I'm coming from the VW/Audi 2.0T world where there are multiple vendors for generic Stage 1/2/3 tunes like APR and IE and a handful of independent custom tuners like Ward Performance Tuning. The "tunes" for these cars modify pretty much boost only. The tuners like squadra and eurocompulsion don't know how to get much timing out of the cars with multiair so the jb4 piggyback gives just as much power. Right now jb4 is best bet as its fully removable and customizable.

What about get big hp games. The block is forged supposeably. So if u do down pipe, intercooler, oil catch can, e85 an a bigger turbo with a chip ecu like a standalone. U dnt think u can get 6-700hp. Cuz on the kseries swap u do that an ur at 5-600hp stock block an it's aluminum. Compare too the alfa it's the same thing 2.0 with a turbo. Just has forges internal or block. So u think there's more power potential. Cuz even the q50 can push 800-600 after everything is upgraded.

    • @bhvrdr

Alfa messed up in the early advertising. Pistons are cast but cast doesn't automatically mean weaker. e85 or e40 tuning has been the limitation. Nobody has done it yet. @bhvrdr the only reason I brought it up for discussion was cuz some one in a video was like ya forged block or pistons. So I was like there like n54 then they can wit stand alot of boost for more power. But u just cleared the air now. Alfa is more like shits an giggles if u want power then it's not the route I assume. Cuz I'm in the market for a car an alfa was one of them wanted to see wts maximum potential. Ur the only video I found that has 400hp. It's get a q50 3.7 or alfa 2.0t but I thinking just wait an pull the trigger on a f80 m3. Cuz the alfa is nice but I like to have power cuz I tend to get bored of cars. Thanks for the response

    • @bhvrdr

So I actually just did a prosport boost gauge by tapping into the charge pipe with a small nipple to read boost mechanically (solely bc I wasn’t satisfied with the appearance of the plug and play vaitrix gauge) boost reads nicely up to 24psi on completely factory setup except for the GFB DV+ upgrade. My question is regarding vacuum tho, it reads a completely flat steady 0 at idle, there is no negative inHg. I was wondering, is the factory MAP sensor reading vacuum from somewhere other than the charge pipe? It looks like your vaitrix gauge is showing negative vacuum at idle if I’m seeing clearly in your video

    • @bhvrdr

    Hey! Seems like a hell of an upgrade, especially performance-wise. I can't believe You're making 4.0sec 0-60 and below 11sec 60-120. that's a wow for such engine.
I understand from the comments below that the engine wasn't touched, so the internals must be really strong, and You must be even running on stock injectors, but my major question is : does such a heavy mod apply to both the rwd/awd version and both manual/auto or there are any sort of limitiations in this field ? thanks!

Hi there thank you for your feedback. Because this turbo gives more power in the upper rev band it doesn't necessarily have much more torque down low which is what can destroy things like transmissions and rods and axles. It is okay for both rear wheel drive and all wheel drive cars. I cannot speak to the robustness of manual transmission cars though because we don't get them in the United States.
