The drummer you mentioned, Dave Grohl, is now the lead singer of the Foo Fighters, and still performing. He and Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) are two of the very few artists to survive the grunge movement. RIP Kurt. If you get a chance, check out Kurt's unplugged "In the Pines'... his last song performed and also you can really hear his singing showcased.
I recently heard that the 90’s really began when this song hit the airwaves. Without question the defining track of the decade. So much anger and rawness. I’d never heard anything like it before at 23, but knew it would change how we listened to music forever.
In my top 5 songs of all time. Such an immense track. Powerful and angry, full of despair but I find it strangely uplifting. Takes me back to the days when my music tastes were branching out all over the place, and I got into grunge and heavy rock. Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Therapy?, Nine Inch Nails. A great time! 👍
Nirvana were my band. I was 15 when this came out and it felt like a calling. They appeared on a notorious uk tv show called The Word to perform SLTS and it’s iconic. I remember going from being slumped on the sofa to sitting bolt upright totally mesmerised by them. You should definitely checkout more, they did a MTV Unplugged and any tract from that is amazing. Where Did You Sleep Last Night &their cover of Bowie’s The Man Who Fell To Earth are outstanding. The drummer went onto form Foo Fighters after Kurt passed, again, check them out too. Everlong is my favourite of theirs.
Seriously ?! You've never heard this title before ?! It is (and will always be) so incredibly powerful . Hard to resist the energy of this track . Yeah ! 😊
I believe it. We’re like two generations removed from these reactors. Their parents didn’t listen to Nirvana, their grandparents probably did. Now where’s my aspercreme, it’s gonna rain I can feel it,
You should check out some Foo Fighters! If you did not know the drummer of Nirvana Dave Grohl went on to from the Foo's as the lead man after Kurt's suicide.
Midway into this song I call the "guitar lick" the "Longest guitar lick of all time"! I live to hear just that part! EPIC! If you really pay attention the guitar lick CONTINUES ON when he starts singing, it lingers even longer! I CANNOT BELIEVE that is when you cut into it! NO!!
yes for me this song is just nineties.. so it mean a lot for the 44 guy I am now. goods and sad remembers, the taste of life as teenager rebelion against this sad world of "adults", a feeling of an absurde world, screaming for something else... it's just the anthem of 90's young people. thank's for this "souvenir";-))
Can’t prevent my mind thinking of Weird Al Yankovic’s _Smells Like Nirvana_ . Being parodied is the evidence for true success. I really like their _MTV unplugged in New York_ album.
First heard this in ‘91, I was 17, America’s too 40 Kasey Kasem, pulling into work, Sunday morning. I was almost late. I just could NOT leave my car till it was done. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
I was in San Francisco for my 20th birthday when I first heard this song. Went back to Sweden and smiled smugly a week later when ppl freaked out to it. 🤣🤗
You probably can´t really understand, what a refreshing sound that was after the soundwise rather dull 80´s, at least when it comes to guitar music. Asked, how they came up with that sound, Cobain answered, they were basically just trying to sound like the Pixies, who are an indeed quite underrated guitar band at the end of the 80´s. So, Pixies next?
The Pixies are good, though by now less famous than Nirvana. One of their more famous songs is “Gouge away”. You can definitely hear the similarities between the two groups.
I'm surprised at alot of your reactions to these big iconic songs that you haven't heard of. Smells Like Teen Spirit is like a 90s Rock Anthem, I wasn't old enough (I was 8yrs old) to appreciate it at the time but it's one of my favourite songs 😍🎸🎤
I was on a business trip with a colleague in Malta back in 2007. After business had been concluded one day we called into a waterside bar in Sliema for the evening and there was a local band playing. This song was one of those they played and it was superb. The bar was completely open onto the street and people were crowding round to listen to it. Given the quite refined nature of Maltese people it was a revelation to see them all moshing out in the street. There were three encores and each time was louder than the previous time! Great stuff! Had a hell of a head the following morning when I had to give a presentation to very senior Government and Bank of Malta officials! Got through it though and we got the order!
Alice in chains is another great 90s grunge band. The lead singer Layne staleys voice was my favorite of the 90s. Rooster, man in the box and would are all great choices
Crazy that you didn't know this song. Not at all my type of music but nevertheless, I have it in my playlist because I heard it so much that I finished to like it
Y a même 2 trous pour les manches... 😊 Naann, j'déconne. hahaha Hello Dereck, Lots of childhood memories come to mind with this title. Excellent choice. Thank you for the reaction. Always on top! Good day,
Hi Dereck! Love your reactions! Nirvana is just legendary... Would be amazing if you could react to more Indochine (french band). They re amazing~ Alice and June, Mao Boy, Electrastar, Marilyn, 3SEX, Pink Water, College Boy... so many amazing songs!
Oh my, Dereck you have to listen to the Pixies ! 🙂 Seems impossible that you've never heard "Where is my mind ?" ... this is such an iconic song, it's an anthem, and one of the most famous guitar riffs ever !
Fun fact - the teenagers dancing? They posted an ad looking for teens who ditched school that day - so those were just some lucky school ditching teens that got to be in video-
So that's what it sounds like when someone doesn't know who Dave grohl is says his name.after Nirvana broke up when Kurt Cobain killed himself Dave joined queen's of the stone age for like 2years check out no one knows.then he formed the foo fighters after playing, recording all the instruments him self realised he needed other members to play live.
Would love to see you react to the band Poets of the Fall and their song Carnival of Rust (their most well known song and the music video got voted as the best Finnish music video ever back in 2006 when the song was released). Truly an underrated band from here in Finland. Also a band with many different sounds all the way from slow melodic songs to full on rock. Although if you want to immediately hear a song that showcases how crazy good the lead singer Marko Saaresto's voice can be (and while his vocal range might not be the most dynamic out there he is an amazing example of what you can achieve by having absolutely perfect control of your vocals especially the raw emotion that his voice is able to convey) then i recommend listening to their song Daze. His vocals on the chorus are something out of this world. I just think that so many more people would love their music if they just ever heard them but since their from Finland it rarely happens. Although many have heard their songs in Remedy's video games Max Payne 2, Alan Wake, Quantum Brake and Control. (Also every single reactor i have seen reacting to them has been pretty much blown away by their music so i'm very confident you'll like it) also... also... lot's of deep and meaningful lyrics and wordplay in their songs sorry for the long rant i just really want more people to know about them :D
All those 80s rock band you've been learning about, this is what ended their careers. That saying is a meme nowadays, but it really literally happened. Instantly 80s big hair rock died and 90s grunge gained airwave dominance. And the rest is history.
Dave Grohl, the former drummer of Nirvana, is now the lead singer and guitarist of the "Foo Fighters", another great band. You definitely have to watch "The Pretender" on RUclips. As good as "Smell like Teen Spirit". Maybe even better !
Yesssssssssss like Cobain after this song I kill my bass!!! ------------------------ The Breeders - "Cannonball"! - no: Beck - "Loser"! - no: Pixies - "Where is my mind" - no: The Police - "Spirits in the material world"
The drummer you mentioned, Dave Grohl, is now the lead singer of the Foo Fighters, and still performing. "In the Pines'
Quite possibly the most iconic song of the 1990s. I remember it well, although I was just a bit before being an actual teenager at the time.
I don't think it's even a question. It is the most iconic song of the 90's. I'd be interested to hear other candidates, though...
@@jonathanlocke6404 I tend to agree, although 'Creep' and maybe 'Zombie' could give it a shot...
@@thebeestwin I thought maybe Alanis Morissette "You Oughta Know".
It's the most consequential song of the 1990's by a long way
I recently heard that the 90’s really began when this song hit the airwaves. Without question the defining track of the decade. So much anger and rawness. I’d never heard anything like it before at 23, but knew it would change how we listened to music forever.
True
So much memories from my teenage...
This like the Cranberries, Oasis, Blur, Radiohead... And many other 90's bands
good timing, it would have been Kurt’s 55th birthday yesterday, may he Rest In Peace
In my top 5 songs of all time. Such an immense track. Powerful and angry, full of despair but I find it strangely uplifting. Led Zep bro ! For John Bonham

The Man Who Sold the World.
Now where’s my aspercreme, it’s gonna rain I can feel it,
Love Nirvana 😊.... The french group "Shakaponk" made an amazing cover of this song.
You should check out some Foo Fighters! If you did not know the drummer of Nirvana Dave Grohl went on to from the Foo's as the lead man after Kurt's suicide.
I saw Nirvana , in France. Their songs are very powerful ! For the wake up , Nirvana's music are perfect.
THE BEST OF NIVARNA ♥️♥️♥️
RIP 🪦 Kurt Cobain
From France 🇫🇷
Iconique. Culte. Intemporel.
"90's all the way" - youre right in a way... because this _defined_ the 90's.
NO!!

Rock N Roll for life 😻😻😻
I saw Nirvana Live in concert, in 1993. Best concert ever!
This was the grunge era, a new style, sound, attitude ... I was so young and will never forget. Great song.
They did a fabulous “Unplugged” set for MTV. Check that out Del. ✌️
This whole album is fire!
So sad that some people don't know this song. 🤘
Nirvana and 90s for ever!!! ♥️
I was then. 😉
I've never been a Nirvana fan but this song is CLASSIC ! And the only chord I played before realizing I'm NOT a musician !
I was in San Francisco for my 20th birthday when I first heard this song. Went back to Sweden and smiled smugly a week later when ppl freaked out to it. 🤣🤗
Headbanger lol, this was soft in the 90`s, this was newer hard, but it did breach the gab between hard and pop. Love Nirvana, metal forever.
He's got marbles in his mouth. -- Weird Al Yankovic. One of the songs that define an era. Before and after.
You probably can´t really understand, what a refreshing sound that was after the soundwise rather dull 80´s, at least when it comes to guitar music. This is 90's all the way because this song happened and defined the early to mid 90's.
The Pixies are good, though by now less famous than Nirvana. One of their more famous songs is “Gouge away”. You can definitely hear the similarities between the two groups.
Or Monkey Gone To Heaven.

I was 16 as this song came out and I was flashed. But 3 years later I was destroyed. RIP Kurt you’re a legend.
This is the song that changed music. It’s classic grunge, courtesy of the irreplaceable Kurt Cobain. RIP Kurt. We miss you so much!
Pretty much the beginning theme to my high school years. Definitely influenced the fashion of those years.
Aaaah my teenager memories ❤️ 🤗
This Kind of Music was always around......Nirvana and Co. just made it popular.............Get a Grip Youngsters!

Try the french group Shaka ponk cover !
It's a "must have" on your list..
This one is the iconic of the 90's. But the best song of Nirvana is Heart-Shaped Box imho.
Alice in chains is another great 90s grunge band. The lead singer Layne staleys voice was my favorite of the 90s. Rooster, man in the box and would are all great choices
Nirvana changed the music industry introducing grunge scene to be popular and all the big hair rock bands out-
Je les ai vu en concert à Grenoble en 1994 1 mois et demi avant la mort de Kurt, je crois que j'aurai toujours une part de moi dans cette salle.

Toute la base! Rien à rajouter! La grande classe! Parti trop tôt😓
This is cult - and certainly one of the most important songs of the nineties! And next: Weird A Jankovic: Smells like Nirvana!
Fun fact - the teenagers dancing? They posted an ad looking for teens who ditched school that day - so those were just some lucky school ditching teens that got to be in video-

Would love to see you react to the band Poets of the Fall and their song Carnival of Rust (their most well known song and the music video got voted as the best Finnish music video ever back in 2006 when the song was released). Picasso said something like : Mediocre artists imitate. Great artists straight up steal.
Dave Grohl, the former drummer of Nirvana, is now the lead singer and guitarist of the "Foo Fighters", another great band. You definitely have to watch "The Pretender" on RUclips. As good as "Smell like Teen Spirit". Maybe even better !
