    Huh, I wonder why I didn't get a notification for this! In any case, this review did great - I did pick it up but (of course) I haven't started it yet. I'm usually wary of "collection" based games, but this doesn't look too bad in that regard. It's good to see that there were some bosses that did provide a bit of challenge. I'm impressed you finished it so quickly.

    Yes, please please play the previous two. This arc more than any other game series (other than maybe Legend of Heroes), really just flows from game to game. They do an amazing job continuing to develop characters from previous games, and pushing plot threads forwards. Literally (literally literally) there's a plot thread that starts in the first 5 minutes of Sophie that doesn't complete until you do every single friendship event with Sophie, Plachta, and Alt all the way 3 full games later. The amount of emotional closure you get from seeing these characters' struggles over the full 3-game arc is really amazing. I sincerely hope you can experience it, too.

    Great review. I personally found it disappointing in comparison to earlier Atelier titles but it was good on its own. I wish there were more party members that were new. Lucia really should have been one.
    Most of my favorite moments in Lydie were the events that tied up loose ends and gave closure to characters from Firis and Sophie. I sadly didn't find either Alt or Mathias that interesting.
    But i did enjoy the Twins and their main storyline.
    I do recommend going back to Firis. Thats my favorite of the 'Mysterious' trilogy of Atelier PS4 games.

    • @JRPGJungle
      @JRPGJungle  6 лет назад +2

      Yeah, there seemed to be a lot of little things that would've made more sense to me with the old characters if I'd played their games, so I'd like to try them :) I don't know if I'll start with Firis or Sophie (I really liked Firis, so I want to play Firis but it would make sense to play Sophie first in regards to the trilogy lol) but I definitely want to
      And Lucia absolutely should have been a party member! Actually glad hear someone else think that lol she was always kind of just there, she definitely could have fought as a fellow alchemist. I think they're putting her in as DLC, but she would've made much more sense as an extra party member. :3

      JRPG Jungle I do recommend starting with Sophie first. It maybe in terms of graphics a bit of a let down but it can't be blamed since this is their first Mysterious game. And you need to know Sophie/Plachta and the gang first in order to play Firis. As I played Firis most of the characters in Sophie will return and you'll have times that you'll really get lost on what they're really saying, and the last boss is hard. 😂 But either way Atelier Sophie is one hell of a good game filled with Sophies overflowing aura of Cuteness and the fact that Plachta's always with you doesn't make you feel lonely. But your hardwork will pay off once you play Atelier Firis. It's one hell of a open world game and the feels is there you'll know it once you start the game and if you played other open world games like Breath Of The Wild and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Atelier Firis will make you feel right at home. The fact that you have to travel from one place to another which is really far because of the quests and stuff is what I like in jrpgs. But beware of the time limit. It's not really demanding but if you laze around you'll definitely get a bad ending. 😁

    I'm still playing Lydie And Suelle and it's so much fun for me in the Switch. I wanted the PS4 version considering I played it's demo but decided to go portable. So far we have one patch ver 1.01 and improved lots of things especially the framerate drops, some DLCs and improvement on the graphics. Which need a bit more upscaling. I bet they're still trying to get used to developing the Nintendo Switch considering its only a year old.
    So far in the story I finally defeated Falgior. And went through some funny events like Mathias as usual trying to find tips on getting girls and Alt staying in the twins house to avoid the girls in his Atelier. It's so funny aside from the relaxing battles the humor in this game is top notch. And the part where there some feels is Pirate Bracken and Neige. But at least we got some good endings for both of them.

    • @JRPGJungle
      @JRPGJungle  6 лет назад +1

      Ah I loved the pirate Bracken stuff! Good to hear about an Alt event, I really missed a lot of his events (because he's in his Atelier pretty much always lol) so I want to learn more about him :) glad to hear you enjoyed it on Switch too, I know I picked the PS4 version for the visuals but it has a great potential as a portable game with all the collection and stuff :)

But yours review expose beautiful landscapes and city i never seen before in any review. And this is what slow-peaced game need, now it looks like this game have some charm after all. Great job!
    ps. it proves u don't need to be expert in long going series to properly review it. For me who never play any atelier this one was much more informative than "expert" reviews focusing on "what new/whats removed compare to older games"

    I want to play this one and was going to buy it on Switch, but a lot of people say Firis is the only one faithful to the series in terms of content. They also say Lydie & Suelle has a lot of NPCs you can't interact with, alongside a lot of open areas that can't be explored; the world is noticeably smaller and it doesn't have as much life in it.
    So, I am uncertain if I really should get Lydie & Suelle or not. I just want an experience that felt as magical as Marie did again.

    I would say the older games are more of the same without the paintings and new synthesis structure. All the games have that relaxing slice of life feeling. Simple characters that are cute and quirky. Its nice that the series keeps the same feeling in the games along with synthesis/alchemy and item finding along with actual battles. Kind of like the Disgaea series keeps the same feeling with demons and its unique strategy gameplay.

    I'm not sure you're going to read this but i would like your opinion on something. Basically i'm new to this series (played ryza only) and i would like to buy one. I have the option of either buying one game from the mysterious trilogy in the dx version or buying the whole Dusk dx trilogy because of the regional prices in my country. I heard nothing but good things about the dusk trilogy but i dont like time limit systems and i also dont like the fact that the first and the second game have fixed camera, but i enjoy the art style and the story seems to be better. Do you believe it is better for me to start with maybe Lydie and Suelle or should i buy the dusk trilogy instead?

    • @JRPGJungle
      @JRPGJungle  3 года назад +1

      As much as I loved Lydie and Suelle and the lack of time limit, I would possibly get the whole Dusk Trilogy just cause you can have a similar experience but still get the chance to go back to the earlier games (that have time limits, although easier ones). Shallie doesn't have a time limit and is the third game in the Dusk trilogy, so if you're worried, it could be a jumping in point (considering that you'd be jumping into the third entry of Mysterious if you played Lydie and Suelle anyway). Only point is I slightly prefer Lydie and Suelle as protagonists and the story quality is closer to Ryza, so if you're more in it for story, Lydie and Suelle is easier in that sense, but getting all of Dusk would be better value :3 up to you though, don't feel bad about doing either! I started with Lydie and Suelle and loved it so I think you can't go wrong either way :)

    I have bought it and it's just waiting to be played, but I feel like I should finish Lost Sphear first. I'm super exited about it. I have it on Switch and I don't think framerate or the lower quality in graphics will bug me. My switch hasn't even been docked ever and I have played over hundred hours of Xenoblade so I guess it doesn't bug me much. I was recommended beginning with Atelier Ayesha, but then I didn't get around to it and ended up buying this one as my first since my Vita won't be freed up for some time. Maybe it's time I go back to this series. I played several of them, always really enjoyed the gameplay. They had a habit of having way too much dialog and it felt like it was getting worse with each game. Don't know if the writing got more drawn out when they shifted to ps3 or if I was just getting bored with their style. Either way I think the last one I played was either Rorona or Totori (I think Totori) and I liked the gameplay but there was such a ridiculous amount of dialog that I had to quit. It felt like no ever stopped talking and I rarely got to play the game. How is this game with that? Do you spend more time in conversations than you elsewhere? I do miss that high level of item collection and fusion they did so well.

    • @JRPGJungle
      @JRPGJungle  5 лет назад

      I get what you mean with the conversations, I remember when I first played another of Gust's games called Ar nosurge; I had to really get used to triggering so many conversations when I went to the item shop to buy one think lol Lydie and Suelle isn't too bad with this at all, a lot of the conversations are optional and displayed on the map with different systems so you can at least tell when a conversation will trigger and while you do still trigger some optional conversations automatically, they have a different kind of conversation box (the core conversation one is just a standard black bar, whereas you can see the optional conversation one around 8:24 in my video) so I liked at least knowing when ones came up that I could skip if I really wanted to. If you focus on the core stuff like I did, you can skip a lot of stuff that is just banter and focus much more on gameplay, although some side characters will be pretty under developed. But yeah, I think its better than older Gust games I've played, even if I think its something Gust seems to like doing haha I hope that helps!

    I personally can't get into this game. Picked it up earlier for the Switch and it just screams mediocre to me. It doesn't help that the game was lazily ported to said console, considering that something that looks like an early PS3 title has massive performance issues. Character designs are great tho, and the non ingame moments are great(like when Lydie's outfit catches on fire and the cauldron "explodes")

    You must have said "Atelier Lydie and Suelle" some 20 times in the 10 min video. While it has a certain rhythm to it, it gets tedious hearing it over and over. Honestly, most of them can be omitted as we all know you are talking about "this game" being reviewed here.
