If he was a soldier then they would have files on him. Soldiers have their fingerprints taken when they enlist and also have dental work done in basic training. I say he was related to a soldier but did not serve.
And replace all of his teeth? Even discharged soldiers still remain on file so some record would exist. If he was a soldier then he would have likely been another crazy Marine and if you watch NCIS then you'll see that they keep tabs on their discharged.
+MrTimelord77 I think the theory that I saw was that instead of being a conventional soldier, joker was in a classified spec ops unit, which may account for his lack of fingerprints and identity on the police database.
where in the film did they get a sample of his teeth prints you can have it on file all you want but if they don't get some gum or something it won't matter. also, have you read anything about the VA in the last couple of years, it would be the most believable thing in the whole movie that a psychopathic killer slipped through their checkups
You can kinda combine all of these stories in a way, apart from fight club, if you take some liberties with them. He was beaten and abused by his father as a child and ran away to join the circus where he fell in love with and met his wife there, however when he witnessed something he wasn't meant to he got his bloody smile and when his wife saw she was going to leave him so he cut her face up so she'd be scarred just like him and no one else would want her. However she can't take it and commits suicide. Knowing he'll be linked to her death he flees the circus to become a soldier, somewhere far away and remote. He goes through hell and is dishonorably discharged (it's the joker, there'd be a reason) and is sent to Arkham Asylum, where he is tested on by Crane and overdosed with fear toxin, driving him over the edge. He escapes from the asylum and covers his face in make up and powder to help hide his identity. Left haunted by what the fear toxins showed him he tries to forget he ever existed before becoming the Joker so his past can't hurt him. He causes chaos at random for a while before being drawn in by the growing figure of the Batman. After being so beaten down by life he's captivated by the figure of hope, this guardian of Gotham, that looks out for the people, this idol that remains unbroken and aspired to by some. That's how his story starts, he just wants to break down the Batman, like he was broken down, to take everything away from him, like it was taken from him. The Joker was nothing, just a man, a husband, a soldier. He became the Joker because he had nothing left. The Batman was everything, he was a symbol, a guardian, hope for the people. He became the Batman to protect what he loved, Gotham and the people who lived in it. So different yet so similar, the Joker saw the Batman as a challenge, this uncorruptable symbol of oppression to crime. Not once did the Joker ever try to unmask the Batman because it didn't matter who he was, it was what he represented that mattered to the Joker, the mask mattered far more than the man behind it ever did.
We all do. We're going to have to figure out a way where we can pluck jim out of time, and bring him into the present, just like in Mortal Kombat 11. It's wish he WERE still alive, BTDubbs. Hypothetical clause.
All of these theories can work together. His dad could have been an alcoholic who killed his mom. He could have been a soldier, was wounded, and then went to work at Haley's circus. He could have then been sent to Arkham for murdering his wife and escaped in Batman Begins. Maybe because of the experiments that Scarecrow did he can't piece all of his memoirs together anymore, and that's why he gives different accounts at different times.
The Joker's origins are hinted in the movie. He tells us his story! "You know, you remind me of my father. I hated my father!". "Come on, I want you to do it, I want you to do it. Come on, hit me. Hit me!" "You have nothing, nothing to threaten me with! Nothing to do with all your strength!". With his high intelligence he was recruited into the CIA. He was on an under cover mission with a group of "soldiers" where he was the lead tactician giving out the commands. The mission went south and the truck load of soldiers were blown up. "Even if the plan is horrifying! If, tomorrow, I tell the press that, like, a gang banger will get shot, or a truckload of soldiers will be blown up, nobody panics, because it's all "part of the plan". CIA wanted to keep it quiet but the he wanted to tell the soldier's families and the press. The CIA told him if he can not keep his mouth shut, then they will help him keep it wide open! 🃏 "Why so serious? Why so serious? Let's put a smile on that face!". "Want to know how I got these scars?". The CIA cut his mouth and placed him in Arkham, so no one would believe him when he says he was in the CIA, where he had to become a symbol in order to survive the crazies of the Asylum. He would tell different stories as to how he got his scars in order to scare the other crazies away from him. "I believe, whatever doesn't kill you, simply makes you..stranger.". Birth of "The Joker". He breaks out of Arkham during Ra's Al Ghul's attack on Gotham (Batman's Birthday Gift) and starts ripping off Mob dealers for money. "[giggling] I don't, I don't want to kill you! What would I do without you? Go back to ripping off mob dealers?". This explains the lack of finger prints, the proficiency of firearms, weapons and explosives, tactical knowledge on how to rob a bank, the ability to infratrate a firing squad and prisoner escort convoy and knowledge of interrogation skills. "Never start with the head. The victim gets all fuzzy. He can't feel the next... See?". I believe the movie drops hints and we have to be the detectives to put them all together. "See, I'm not a monster. I'm just ahead of the curve." My opinion, my thoughts. What are your thoughts?
Other things to consider he way have been ex-military 1. The way The Joker handled firearms, explosives and vehicles 2. "Never start with the head, the victim gets all fuzzy" perhaps the Joker did some interrogation in his past. 3. His Precise military planning and execution 4. Appears he knows how to fight hand to hand (except for that fight with batman) 5. "They Need you Right now, but when you don't...they cast you out" I'd image pissed off soldiers think about that.
Are you really surprised? Comics pull this shit all the time. They're not going to reveal it, they just pulled you in with a marketing ploy to get your money while still maintaining the status quo.
One idea for the origin of the joker i had was that he is in Batman's head. Because in Batman begins, we see that scarecrow's gas makes a person go insane and have a psychological breakdown. So when batman gets a whole canister of the gas to his face, he loses his sense of reality and gets sent to a mental hospital (ie: Arkham Asylum.) And Batman starts to develop a world in his head where he was cured of the gas, and Batman starts to take elements of his surroundings in the asylum into his head. Eg: a nice doctor/psychologist becomes Alfred in his head, Rachel is from a nurse who he likes, commissioner Gordon is a fellow patient who follows the rules of the warden. But after a while, his false reality starts to fall apart, and he must confront himself as the joker (as a psychopath who loves chaos) in his world. But him defeating the joker means Batman is sealing himself into his dream world and gone truly insane. Just a theory... And it explains how Batman was cured so easily of the gas in Batman Begins.
That needs to be a non canon mini story arc, perhaps set in a parallel universe. I'd buy it. Lol, I wonder what the Batmobile would actually be though, probably the gurney he'd be strapped to. Robin could literally be a bird that's loose in the asylum. Just kidding, cool theory.
I really like this guy. always feels like he's passionate about what he's talking about, rather than the bland folk you get elsewhere who don't give a fuck and are only there because it's the type of videos that get good views
Actually, bar the fact that they are from different universes, they're actually relatively similar. The Joker doesn't really have a purpose in life beyond messing people around ("some men aren't looking for anything logical"), whereas Deadpool kind of does, but if you think about it, they're both disfigured, insane psychopaths who quite happily make jokes while killing and torturing people.
Flash: Hold on a second, what about the secret identity thing? I mean I trust you guys, but I'm not sure I'm ready to- Batman: Wally West, Clark Kent . . . BATMAN!
if number one is true, the ledger's joker is from fight club, and leto's joker is angel face from fight club, then the dark knight and suicide squad are in the same universe
Then fight club is also connected. Leto becoming a copycat Joker after the "real" Joker dies is the Dark Knight. I believe he died but I could be mistaken
+John “J-Jay” McClaine he didn't die in the dark knight the last we saw him he was left dangling on the side of the building by batman and presumably captured and locked up in arkham
not really, nolans movies where... ok... mostly loved by the typical popcorn going crowd who would almost as likely sit and watch a new Die Hard movie just as excited xD batman begins was ok, because it was a batman movie, the next 2 where ok movies but nothing remotely like ANY of the source material it was based on using "oh its based in reality" as an excuse for terrible plotholes and a lack of actual interesting story, ledger was great, he just wasnt the joker in any sence, wearing purple and waving a few playing cards around doesnt make the joker character, his attitude does and ledger was more like some kind of hannibal lector meets tom waits
+Jax Dagger Though to be fair, Joker's "superpower" is his insanity... and to say that Ledger didn't bring that to the table is a tinge misleading. Especially after he burned up all the money, kind of leading to a sentiment of "Why the hell is he doing this, then?" though I digress. I mean, let's be honest, did ANYONE every hit the "Joker nail" on the head from the comics? That's the thing, is that people inhabit their interpretation of him and nobody's going to have the same one. +Jim Bo It's funny because recently Christian Bale actually commented on how he had all these plans for his version of Batman... then Heath came in and just blew it out of the water by outdoing him in the second one. That said, there were more than a few things Heath did in the movie that became "iconic" (So to speak) that were improvised... hell, Heath Ledger's even the one that did up his face like that. He went to a local CVS, got the make-up, came back and showed Chris Nolan what he had in mind.
what's truly amazing is that it hasn't dawned on anyone that may be a multitude of the stories are true. yes any one of those things could have sent someone off the deep end but usually people have faced those type of situations without becoming a psychotic lunatic. It's generally only after someone has experienced a rough upbringing at the hands of an alcoholic father only to find a Saving Grace in their job in the military and love of their life only to have all of those things taken away from them that they usually snap and go so far off the deep end they are never to be retrieved again.

he was an abused child who eventually left to join the military, the war causes his already unstable mind to become more unstable, he then marries a woman who becomes disfigured and either disfigures himself or is already disfigured but either way his wife leaves him as he fails to support her, he starts to go crazy with his father's cruelties, the atrocities he has seen and commuted during his service and his wife's leaving him and hating his disfigurement causes him to break down and gets taken to arkham where Crane tries to experiment on him causing him to become more crazy to the point where he has no fear, he then hears of batman and realizes that he is the antitheses of Batman and breaks out to set Gotham city on the path of anarchy

@@munstersoldierhonestly it's probably a mix of all the stories he tells, different details, his abilities gives hints, but we'll never know exactly which details from his tales are true
I personally agree with the Crane theory that he was one of the subjects that escaped Arkham after and was never given the antidote that Lucius Fox made. Remember what Scarecrow said about the formula: "The mind can only take so much". I think that the Joker was just a nobody that was snatched off the street by Crane's men, experimented on with the formula and went completely mad but instead of dying from it he survived and became something stranger.

I agree, he could've been an injured veteran who drifted from job to job until he had turned to a life of crime, getting arrested and experimented on by crane
Are you guys even serious? There are no 2 stories that can be merged into one because they all explain how he gets his scars and he gets those at different points of his life depending on his stories. He can't give himself the scars in order to cheer up his wife, for example, if he already has them from his father when he was a child or when he was on the battlefield. I won't use any insults towards you peeps, but seriously, pull yourselves together.
What I mean by an amalgam of all the theories is that there can be some truth to each one. Dude that left the first reply gets it. Also his scars are not necessrily the result of one incident. For example he grew up in an extremely abusive home which left physical and mental scars. He ran away and found refuge with Halys circus or maybe he was actual raised with the circus like Jerome in Gotham tv show. At some point he joined the army which took its toll on his already fragile psyche which ends him up in Arkham. The shit with his wife could have happened before the army(maybe a reason for joining) or after Arkham maybe at a more mentally stable time in his life but ended badly leading to another mental breakdown. After all the breakdowns, mental anguish throughout his life and the extreme medical malpractice in Arkham his mind is totally and utterly fucked and he doesnt extactly know what's real and what is not.
I had never heard of the "He Doesn't Know" theory, and I gotta say... I like it. Although, it seems odd to me that Gordon couldn't get a single bit of information about the Joker after he was locked up. Gordon says he couldn't get anything from his fingerprints or something like that
i feel like the most probable one is the soldier theory. the fact that he just knows all the methods he uses in the movie and how he executes them so well really kinda shows it.

I've heard theories about the Joker that are connected to Fight Club before. They weren't necessarily The Narrator though. The theory pointed toward the Joker being Angel Face. Besides the fact that both characters are portrayed by Jared Leto, the damage done to his character in Fight Club is visible in pictures of himself as the Joker. His psychotic being could be attributed to his beating and subsequent brain washing within Project Mayhem.
I personally like the aggregate of all these, where Joker is man, who understands that an infinite number of paths can lead to an infinite number of outcomes, so he can be whatever the heck he wants to be at the time. Imo, this is why he appeals to all of us.
part of the beauty of the circus theory is that it could be incredibly easy to image the Ledger joker as a version of Dick Greyson that Bruce Wayne never had a chance to adopt and nurture.
I like the fact that all these theories could technically be true in the Dark Knight trilogy. A soldier with severe PTSD and combat wounds who joined because his dad was an asshole (Deadpool?) comes home to find his depressed wife seriously injured/dead. In pain and filled with rage he fucks up his own face and is committed to a psych ward where he is treated by Dr. Kane. Losing his memory he drifts to a circus as a clown and safety guy, who is paid by the mob to kill the Graysons. With memory lose and no close support system he sees a person try to control an uncontrollable city, and begins his quest to show that people are horrible. Fight Club is from his perspective and all the interactions with Tyler are when he faces the Batman.

The Fight Club Narrator is extremely possible, I can see the reasons why it could be true. I really like that theory. The former soldier theory is an obvious one but maybe he really doesn’t know. It’s such a legendary character and the lack of backstory is so perfect for a character like the Joker.
What if ALL of these are true?? He was raised in an abusive household, mother killed by father, grew up to marry wife, joined Hayls circus, got involved with the mob who cut a smile on his wife's face, he did the same to impress her and she left him, he saw no point in living so joined the army, survived but came back with the stress disorder and then finally snapped??
I like to refer to The Killing Joke. Joker says: "Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another. If I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice." I know DC liked to say The Killing Joke was not going to be a part of the original universe, but they have maintained it. This quote would explain why Heath Ledger gives two different stories as to how he got the scars. Therefore, I like the idea that he simply does not know.
Joker mocked the idea of him being the way he is because of some tragic/traumatic experience. That's why he said different stories. How he got those scars ultimately didn't matter. As didn't any other personal details. As opposed to the hero who is a human with a backstory behind his mask, joker IS the mask. Pure anarchy with no (apparent) backstory, naked reality personified.
I bet when they release the comic, they will have identical covers, but have dozens of different panels for the critical reveal in print. That would be awesome.
In the fight with Batman the Joker also asked Batman if he knows where he got those scars. Batman doesn't let him finish the story and cuts him making new scars. Since The Joker sees him as an equal I would bet that he was going to tell Batman the truth making other stories false.
I like to believe that the Joker would of told The Batman the true story of how he got the scars. He drops hints as to what he has gone throught in the movie. Then he would of cut Batman but not kill him. Batman would have to permanently be Batman after he gets cut because once he takes off his mask everyone is going to see Bruce Wayne's face cut. So he stays as Batman permanently and constantly fights the Joker. The Joker's sick dream comes true! Great Movie!

Birth of "The Joker". 🃏 He breaks out of Arkham during Ra's Al Ghul's attack on Gotham (Batman's Birthday Gift) and starts ripping off Mob dealers for money. "I don't, I don't want to kill you! There's actually another Fight Club Joker theory that says Jared Leto's portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime is actually his character Angel Face from Fight Club. It kind of makes sense with the grill in his mouth to replace his broken teeth and obviously getting his face beaten to shit could have easily screwed with his mind either from the blunt force trauma or the fact that he went crazy after losing his charming good looks.
what if DC saw this video and made all 8 of these his backstory. fight club guy goes to arkham after his ptsd from the war gets to him and then he gets amnesia or some shit and it just combines everything here lol/
Dark horse comics has a sequel to fight club (writen by the same author) out right now. So even if they thought doing that was a good idea, they need the authors permission/the rights to it.
Since we're talking about Heath Ledger's Joker, what about this theory: He was a former student of Ra's al Ghul. It explains his compete lack of fear. His obsession with destroying Gotham and proving to Batman that they're not worth saving. His disapproval of Gotham's underworld and the corruption of it's elite. The fact that he is unwilling to kill Batman, if only to prolong his suffering. His change of heart on Batman's unmasking, because he already knows the truth.
Let's put a smile on that face!". in the movie at the end he says "to get into madness all you need is a little push" which is a reference to his original origins when he fell to the toxic chemichals
I think he had a different story about his scars for every person he would tell the story to thats the great thing about him to me he always lets people think they know something about him when he is actually just screwing with them

Heath ledgers joker was confirmed to be a former soldier, probably either CIA clandestine operations or as part of a SF group. This is proven by his strategic talents and his extreme proficiency in the weapons he uses. Combine this with the fact that the went one on one with the batman in CQC and won. Given all this no other explanation would make sense. You don't get to that level doing mob work or really anything else for that matter.

Joker talks about 2 stories of his scars. You can even understand it because when he speaks about his father creating his scar (the left scar that looks like a smile) it means his father created the left scar, and the joker himself (when talking about his wife) created the second scar, that looks more like a knife or razor was used om himself.

To be honest, I'm fine with the origin the Tim Burton film had, it gave him a connection to Bruce Wayne, his Joker persona was effectively created by Batman at Axis chemicals, and he was already a high calibre criminal as Jack Napier.
The origin I believe most about The Joker, not a specific voice actor or live action one just The Joker, is a mix of The Killing Joke and that he doesn't know. I believe TKJ is one he tells but in it he says himself something along the lines of "Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another. If I have a past I prefer it to be multiple choice" which shows to me he's so screwed up and has lost himself so much that he's unaware of anyone inside his own head other than who he is now and that he's even lost his own origin and what shaped to become who he is

A friend once said maybe the Joker met Ra's Al Ghul after the incident with the military, and then try to became part of the league of shadows, but the extreme training and Ra's fear techniques broke his mind, so he was excomulgated of the league before Bruce joined That would explain why he identified himself as "an agent of chaos" and why he's so good with theatricality and is obsessed with broke down the spirit of the city and make his own people destroy it Besides of the fact that the league is a central peace in the story of Nolan's vision of Batman

In the book Fight Club, the Narrator actually bites through one cheek earlier in the book, before shooting himself through the other. Meaning he ends the book healing into the Jokers scars.
My theory is that he's an ex soldier or CIA field agent, the scars are from being tortured by terrorists, he also did some interrogation for the CIA, lived in Gotham when he was young, he had a girlfriend, who was then severely bothered by his scars and broke up with him, he had an abusive father, he left Gotham after that for a time, then 'Ducard' approached him and convinced him to join the League of Shadows, after he learned of their mission to destroy Gotham City, he refused and returned to Gotham, then when the Batman showed up, and what Crane and the league did to his city, he took on the act of the Joker, masterfully strategized the plan to bankrupt the mafia, end corruption and destroy Batman mentally, he's not crazy, he's an ex spy who went through some very traumatic shit, and then later heartbreak, maybe his parents were both abusive, he's just a guy who took extreme measures to save his city from dying. My theory: the theories of military training, him being a an ex member of the League of Shadows, his father being an alcoholic, his 'wife' unable to look at him, the two of those mentioned by him, those are all true with one thing extra He's not crazy

Don't ever do the Joker voice again. If I wanted to be ear raped by a god aful impersonation I'd listen to some sort of rapper who thinks he's a musician and thinks rap is actually music.
@Unguided Reaper, while I do agree with your opinion on rap. However I don't think he did that awful impersonation of Joker, that it was ear-raping, it wasn't great yeah, but not bad.
+Juschilltho well unlike rap metal actually uses instruments and singing, but I still consider rap music even if it it God awful music. music is subjective
In justice lengue 50 it's revealed that the mobius chair didn't tell batman the Joker's name. It told him there were 3 diferent jokers operating, the killing joke one (Alan Moore's) the modern Joker (Scott Snyder's) and the classic one. DC still hasnt adressed how are there 3 but its a already a storyline.
The theory about the Joker not existing until the Batman came along reminded me of what Hugo Strange said in Arkham city. He asked if the Joker would even exist if not for Batman. In the comics there is this theme of villains simply existing because of the hero. Joker was created by Batman through an accident and Joker even claims that Batman is his other half. Joker can't live without Batman. Even Venom was originally created because of Eddie Brocks hatred for both Peter Parker and Spiderman. Scorpion himself was made because of a plan to get rid of Spiderman. There are so many other examples of a certain villain existing solely because of a certain hero.
Keeping the Joker a crazed psychopath with no definite answer to where he came from makes him more dangerous. The fact that we know nothing about him, and can't relate to him in anyway makes him more interesting, and unsettling. Humanizing him with an actual backstory detracts from his almost super natural status. The Joker is Batman's foil. They parallel each other perfectly, and thats all we need to know about him.
I believe the first theory that he was a former soldier no idea what squad he was a part of but I definitely think he was a soldier before the events of the dark Knight because throughout the film he is really good at handling firearms almost like a expert he is very good at interrogation techniques and he creates plans that only someone of a military background could plus it would explain why Jim Gordon is not able to retrieve any background information on the Joker maybe the government thought that he missing in action and decided to keep all the knowledge about the Joker classified so Joker returned to Gotham looking to exact revenge on the government and the city that in his mind forgot about his sacrifice this is without a doubt the best version of the Joker the fact nobody knows how and why the Joker is is just a testament to how great this movie is

If the reveal comes from the knowledge that Bats gets from the Möbius chair, they are probably going to use that version of his back story. That is, that he is "The Man Who Laughs" and has been around forever in one incarnation or another as a "god" of sorts devoted to chaos and madness! I'm really surprised you showed Bats in the chair and still didn't bring this one up.
What if the Joker was a compulsive gambler and he was in debt due to his cards. The loan sharks come and do terrible things to him and his loved ones. He gets back at them, but can't fulfill the void in his life, because they left him no one. So, he talks to himself assuming their persona. But since there's nothing left to care about, he's just an agent of chaos, which can actually give him some stimulus and feel engaged/alive. Now he's the 'Joker' in a pack of cards, he'll assume any role that he wants to, wedge himself into any life he wants to, and forget who he is and what his actions did to his loved ones. Guilt is what he finds common with Batman, which is why he would never kill him. Batman is the opposite of the agent of chaos. Which is why, "You complete me!" and "To them... you're a freak!... like me :)". He understands Batman better than Batman understands himself, and therefore, the Joker is toying with him, testing his moral code at every step, because "You're too much fun!" but really its admiration and ridicule at the same time for the choice and responsibility that Batman has taken on. Just saying...
This reminds me of that old simpleton riddle about being in a room with two exits, one leading to death, the other one leading to freedom. Both are guarded by two guards; one that always lies and one that always tells the truth. And you have one single question to find out which door leads to freedom. In the case of the Joker, you'd have two guards that always lie, so the answer one seeks becomes irrelevant.
I kind of believe the solider theory but I don't think he would've gotten the scars from a truck explosion. I think it would be more likely that he was captured and the scars were from the enemy torturing him (Glasgow smiles have been used as methods of torture by some terrorist groups). This would give the scars a much darker meaning rather than them just being an accident. The government didn't know he was still alive so they pronounced him dead or wiped his identity which is why no one could find out who he really was.

I thought he kidnaps Rachel along with Harvey dent because of the "the way you threw yourself after her" line he says to batman during the interrogation scene. He wants to see which one batman will save and which he will let die
oh good this joker-fight club cross over theory really blew my mind. i love fight club and heath's joker but i wouldnt go as far as associating the two.
remember when (in the older cartoons) he was talking to harley Quinn, about the only time his father was ever happy, maybe the separate stories about the scars bank on that
Maybe as a child his father was abusive which made him crazy but managed to hide it and when he grew up he became a solder but after seeing truly Gruesome and horrific that made him truly insane. He then decided to sneak out of his army base and find his way home. But after his wife sees him insane and laughing a lot, he carves a permanent smile into his face to make her feel better, but that makes it worse. Because he wants to cheer his wife he wants to go the doctor to get surgery to make his better. But after he finds out he can't afford it, he decides to rob a bank, but instead of a mask he uses clown makeup and bleach to disguise himself. As he try's to rob a bank alone, he is caught buy the police who diagnose him as being crazy. At that point they decide to send him of to Arkham Asylum, where he manages to break out and inevitably becomes the crown prince of crime. And the rest is history.

My own little theory, though I don't take it any too seriously as I like the mystery, is that he was an accountant in Lau's company who was made the fall guy for either Lau or someone else skimming off the mob. Since the cops are also corrupt at the time, maybe instrumental in disfiguring him - possibly also castrating, as it's hinted at - and somewhat continue to be, he goes on an elaborate revenge scheme again both mobsters and cops. He actually doesn't kill too many other kinds of people. It is possible that he also tried to blow the whistle on Lau, went to cops who were already bought off, and that ended up being his downfall as they of course betray him - and it's possible even Rachel somehow let him down, maybe not getting to his case fast enough. It almost seems possible that Lau recognizes him when he's in conference with the mobsters, and Joker and Lau have had some kind of confrontation on the pile of money when the Chechen comes in. I also theorize, though it's just as an aside, that Reese may have know him as they were both in similar lines of work and that Reese recognizes his voice when he calls in to the TV show. Joker in fact may be less concerned with killing off Reese to prevent Batman's identity getting out than he is concerned his own identity doesn't get out. Reese, in a way, would be a parallel character to this version of the Joker, maybe not unlike him before the incident, even knowing too much about an employer.
I always thought he would be an ex soldier, suffering with PTSD, coming back to the states where his wife would have left him, unable to work, and suffering with homelessness. Maybe even lost his wife to an unjust manslaughter which wasn't served justice.
Former soldier idea makes the most sense. On top of everything else mentioned, he can be heard humming a war theme twice during the film.
If he was a soldier then they would have files on him. Soldiers have their fingerprints taken when they enlist and also have dental work done in basic training. I say he was related to a soldier but did not serve.
+MrTimelord77 but God knows what could've happened since he left the service. he could've burned his fingers
Mr Timo3- That actually sounds like a legitimate back story for TDK Joker. Well done
That is fuckin awesome where is DC to hire this man

It's wish he WERE still alive, BTDubbs. Hypothetical clause.
All of these theories can work together. His dad could have been an alcoholic who killed his mom. He could have been a soldier, was wounded, and then went to work at Haley's circus. He could have then been sent to Arkham for murdering his wife and escaped in Batman Begins. Maybe because of the experiments that Scarecrow did he can't piece all of his memoirs together anymore, and that's why he gives different accounts at different times.

Other things to consider he way have been ex-military
1. The way The Joker handled firearms, explosives and vehicles
2. "Never start with the head, the victim gets all fuzzy" perhaps the Joker did some interrogation in his past.
3. His Precise military planning and execution
4. Appears he knows how to fight hand to hand (except for that fight with batman)
5. "They Need you Right now, but when you don't...they cast you out" I'd image pissed off soldiers think about that.
Also when he talks to Dent - truck full of soldiers blows up and no one bats an eye
He literally covered this theory lol. As well as mentioned the soldier story w dent. What video did u guys watch? Lol
Also his quotes “A truck full of soldiers a bomb goes off nobody panics” “I believe what doesn’t kill you simply makes you stranger”

So… I'm gonna have to wait a bit. #42 was such a troll, cause Batman learns the identity, but never reveals it.
Are you really surprised? Comics pull this shit all the time. They're not going to reveal it, they just pulled you in with a marketing ploy to get your money while still maintaining the status quo.
It's nearly revealed in JL #50 or #52, not sure. Let's just "If I'm going to have a past it's gonna be a multiple choice haha"
Lol, There are three jokers that's why he never reveals it.
Three Jokers? Please explain this. I love the character(s) but don't read the comics
+daggern15 the joker isn't one person, but three which is why he has such different personalities in different comics
You know what, I had forgotten about that particular incident from Batman Begins. That is a pretty good thought.
dude good theory but we have all heard the " batman crazy and it's all in his head, and people in his head are based of real people" theory
That's fucking genius.
thanks that was creepe
That needs to be a non canon mini story arc, perhaps set in a parallel universe. I'd buy it. Lol, I wonder what the Batmobile would actually be though, probably the gurney he'd be strapped to. Robin could literally be a bird that's loose in the asylum. Just kidding, cool theory.
A great joker impression, I'll add that to the list of the all powerful Adam's talents...

Look I prefer mysteries to have a definite answer but I can't lie when I say the Jokers true identity should be the one mystery that remains unsolved

Joker: "You wanna know my original name!"
Batman: "Go on"

Joker: "DEADPOOL...Captain DEADPOOL!
Actually, bar the fact that they are from different universes, they're actually relatively similar. The Joker doesn't really have a purpose in life beyond messing people around ("some men aren't looking for anything logical"), whereas Deadpool kind of does, but if you think about it, they're both disfigured, insane psychopaths who quite happily make jokes while killing and torturing people.

he could be jared leto from fight club after edward norton beats him up
Love it!
Thats what i was thinking. It works with Suicide Squad on the horizon.
yeah because he is jared leto in fight club
The Joker clearly hasn't been in acid in Dark Knight. His makeup doesn't cover his entire body, and you can see it changing and dripping off his face.
if number one is true, the ledger's joker is from fight club, and leto's joker is angel face from fight club, then the dark knight and suicide squad are in the same universe
Mind. Blown.
Taha Shujaat he died in the alternate ending thought, right?

The dark knight is such a masterpiece.

not really, nolans movies where... ok... mostly loved by the typical popcorn going crowd who would almost as likely sit and watch a new Die Hard movie just as excited xD batman begins was ok, because it was a batman movie, the next 2 where ok movies but nothing remotely like ANY of the source material it was based on using "oh its based in reality" as an excuse for terrible plotholes and a lack of actual interesting story, ledger was great, he just wasnt the joker in any sence, wearing purple and waving a few playing cards around doesnt make the joker character, his attitude does and ledger was more like some kind of hannibal lector meets tom waits
When you look at the directors, it makes sense. Nolan is an elite film maker, Zach Snyder is not.

Though to be fair, Joker's "superpower" is his insanity... and to say that Ledger didn't bring that to the table is a tinge misleading.
+Jim Bo
It's funny because recently Christian Bale actually commented on how he had all these plans for his version of Batman... then Heath came in and just blew it out of the water by outdoing him in the second one. That said, there were more than a few things Heath did in the movie that became "iconic" (So to speak) that were improvised... hell, Heath Ledger's even the one that did up his face like that. He went to a local CVS, got the make-up, came back and showed Chris Nolan what he had in mind.
@@JaxDagger you serious??
what's truly amazing is that it hasn't dawned on anyone that may be a multitude of the stories are true. yes any one of those things could have sent someone off the deep end but usually people have faced those type of situations without becoming a psychotic lunatic. It's generally only after someone has experienced a rough upbringing at the hands of an alcoholic father only to find a Saving Grace in their job in the military and love of their life only to have all of those things taken away from them that they usually snap and go so far off the deep end they are never to be retrieved again.

I love that everyone was worrying about Joker’s identity getting revealed, but then it happened and it was just, “There are three”
funny thing is its 2018 and joker is still mysterious as ever leaving us nothing but just theories... very well played..👏👏
he was an abused child who eventually left to join the military, the war causes his already unstable mind to become more unstable, he then marries a woman who becomes disfigured and either disfigures himself or is already disfigured but either way his wife leaves him as he fails to support her, he starts to go crazy with his father's cruelties, the atrocities he has seen and commuted during his service and his wife's leaving him and hating his disfigurement causes him to break down and gets taken to arkham where Crane tries to experiment on him causing him to become more crazy to the point where he has no fear, he then hears of batman and realizes that he is the antitheses of Batman and breaks out to set Gotham city on the path of anarchy

There's room for all of the above. I'd like to think his story is an amalgam of all, except the last one.
Sadly the army theory, which is the best one, can't happen. He shows absolutely no military skills. Anywhere.
isTheMiz Of course it could happen it's a film and fictional therefore anything can happen. Also yes he does show military skills.

Heath Ledger, in my opinion, was the best joker. RIP 👼🏼🃏
In one of the comics "I think it from the killing joke" the joker says "I remember it one way but remember it another, I choose multiple choice".
I love fan theories, whether correct or incorrect they're always fun to think about
The Joker's origins are hinted in the movie.
The military one sounds the best
I miss Heath ledger😖😢
part of the beauty of the circus theory is that it could be incredibly easy to image the Ledger joker as a version of Dick Greyson that Bruce Wayne never had a chance to adopt and nurture.

He was raised in an abusive household,
mother killed by father, grew up to marry wife, joined Hayls circus, got involved with the mob who cut a smile on his wife's face, he did the same to impress her and she left him, he saw no point in living so joined the army, survived but came back with the stress disorder and then finally snapped??

That being said, this origin better be as batshit insane as this kind of theory.
Jake Theberge joker definitely deserves to have the most batshit kind of crazy backstory lol
regarding The Joker, I prefer DC give not an answer but more questions an mystery because that's what Joker is, fear to the unknown.
He can't be a arkham escapee because his prints or face wasn't recognised on the system ~ just to let you know
I love that Fight Club theory.
Since we're talking about Heath Ledger's Joker, what about this theory:
He was a former student of Ra's al Ghul.
It explains his compete lack of fear. His obsession with destroying Gotham and proving to Batman that they're not worth saving. His disapproval of Gotham's underworld and the corruption of it's elite. The fact that he is unwilling to kill Batman, if only to prolong his suffering. His change of heart on Batman's unmasking, because he already knows the truth.

in the movie at the end he says "to get into madness all you need is a little push" which is a reference to his original origins when he fell to the toxic chemichals
DO I REALLY LOOK LIKE A GUY WITH A PLAN ?
I think he had a different story about his scars for every person he would tell the story to thats the great thing about him to me he always lets people think they know something about him when he is actually just screwing with them

I absolutely love the movie theories, both The Shining and Fight club are great movies
What if there was a movie where the joker was the main character and he is trying to find out who he is?
you should be a film director
That would be cool.
sadly he's dead
We did have a story line told completely from the Joker's perspective. It' called the Joker's short-lived comic book series.
You got your wish!!
The solider theory and the killing joke was the best.
I think the former soldier is rite on the money!

Google the name Tommy Flanagan.
"Do you take American Express?"
+Samual Iam what an actor sad what happened to him but the scars make him. ( Glasgow smile )
To be honest, I'm fine with the origin the Tim Burton film had, it gave him a connection to Bruce Wayne, his Joker persona was effectively created by Batman at Axis chemicals, and he was already a high calibre criminal as Jack Napier.
Or maybe, he's actually Alfred....

So basically Jared Leto is the boy scout equivalent of Heath Ledger.
Kind of? I mean, we don't get to see much of him actually do anything.... So it's hard to tell exactly what he can do
A friend once said maybe the Joker met Ra's Al Ghul after the incident with the military, and then try to became part of the league of shadows, but the extreme training and Ra's fear techniques broke his mind, so he was excomulgated of the league before Bruce joined
That would explain why he identified himself as "an agent of chaos" and why he's so good with theatricality and is obsessed with broke down the spirit of the city and make his own people destroy it
Besides of the fact that the league is a central peace in the story of Nolan's vision of Batman

TOMMY WISEAU
For any of you who don't know of this "person"
He is the gentleman that appears in 0:20
In the book Fight Club, the Narrator actually bites through one cheek earlier in the book, before shooting himself through the other. Meaning he ends the book healing into the Jokers scars.
The truth is there's been three jokers the whole time
:SPOILERS:
That shit is so dumb that it actually sounds fake but according to rebirth it's not
yeah there names are called mark hamill, jack nichlson and heath ledger
You write spoilers before spoiling it.
I'm not sure how I'm gonna feel rebirth. It doesn't seem to horrible so far and it can be interesting but I guess we'll see.
one of them is probably comedian
The Pat Oswald theory expands on the soldier with PTSD
He said the Joker had a background in military intelligence.
Heaths' joker was awesome and too bad the new one is a "gangster"
Agree
too bad that the joker is a gangster like almost every comic version of joker.
+Athanasios Logaras well all the other versions of the joker were 'gangsters', the new one is a 'gangsta' lol
My theory: the theories of military training, him being a an ex member of the League of Shadows, his father being an alcoholic, his 'wife' unable to look at him, the two of those mentioned by him, those are all true with one thing extra
He's not crazy
I'm just ahead of the curve."
My opinion, my thoughts. What are your thoughts?
Pretty far fetched theory, but what if The Joker is Thomas Wayne after being put in the Lazarus pit and then being born again as a complete psycho ...
well martha wayne was joker in some alternate story
+Croz Raven flashpoint story
Any evidence or just a conjecture?
But the Lazarus pit is under control of leiam neson who thinks Gotham is a cesspool of crime and bad people. How could he and why would he?
Me: Joker, what happened to your face?
Joker: I cut myself shaving, what happened to yours?
Don't ever do the Joker voice again. If I wanted to be ear raped by a god aful impersonation I'd listen to some sort of rapper who thinks he's a musician and thinks rap is actually music.
Rap is actually music. Fuck you.
The butthurt in this comment.
Yes because Metal is definitely music
@Unguided Reaper, while I do agree with your opinion on rap. However I don't think he did that awful impersonation of Joker, that it was ear-raping, it wasn't great yeah, but not bad.
+Juschilltho well unlike rap metal actually uses instruments and singing, but I still consider rap music even if it it God awful music. music is subjective
"I'm not insane. I'm NOT. I'm just not blind to everything you can't see"
Someone spoil it for me
In justice lengue 50 it's revealed that the mobius chair didn't tell batman the Joker's name.
It told him there were 3 diferent jokers operating, the killing joke one (Alan Moore's) the modern Joker (Scott Snyder's) and the classic one.
DC still hasnt adressed how are there 3 but its a already a storyline.
They defeat Pennywise with some silver slingshot ammo in his lair. Wait did you mean the TV movie It or the Joker origin?
Technically upto "The Dark Knight" there were/had been Three Jokers.
+Raúl Pasco that one was the jokers revenge (70's)
Why is this a bad idea?
Haha yeah
because the fact that we don't know why the joker do what he does is what make him awesome
Simple, some things are just infinitely better unknown.
They parallel each other perfectly, and thats all we need to know about him.
bc after 75 years theres hasn't been any offical orgin of the joker, not knowing his past makes him more scarer

This film is The brilliance of Christopher Nolan
that one time jared leto was in fight club!! CONFIRMED
The soldier thing is the smartest idea I've ever heard
Wow these were actually really good theories. I wasnt expecting that. Like!
Adam's back!
"If I'm going to have a past, I prefer it be multiple choice." My favorite Joker quote.
please keep hosting you have an awesome voice
Ledger's Joker is beyond explanation.

He also can't remember his past and can't remember who he is
