I loved that he said the person barricaded with a huge knife "was in crisis " Although I think the riots have gotten ridiculous - and police are very necessary for everyone's well-being -I also think that compassion and a mindset such as this gentleman would make life easier for the police and the people they are attempting to govern/protect. Rather than viewing the situation as " this crazy guy had a knife and so I had to shoot him," this officer recognized that the suspect was in a mental crisis and did need someone to talk him down.. Of course the suspect should be held accountable and get some counseling! However, this officer's approach was so much better than merely going on defensive attack mode - and very likely saved the suspect's life.
The problem is the riots and the separatism that is created by Democrat rhetoric to instill fear and cultivate a mentality of "us vs. them" will ensure this evolved way of policing becomes more and more rare- until it is gone for good.
Or people, of all Races, can recognize that the Democrats are playing on people's emotions and sensitivities, and demand better from themselves and their leaders by saying " I choose not to be a victim, I choose to Define my life. I choose to abide by the law and remain calm in a situation that involves the police. I choose to recognize that the few incidences of police brutality on black men do not Define the entire good work that the entire police force conducts. I choose to be an educated man / woman who understands that more police officers are killed by black men per year vs black man killed by police officers. I choose to acknowledge that those black men that have killed police officers are not a representation of myself nor the entire black community, just as I choose to acknowledge the actions of a few bad police officers are not a reflection of the entire white race nor the entire police force in the nation. Because I have the freedom to make these choices, I am nobody's victim and I - alone -Define and create my life."
