  • Hey guys,so this is my school situation. I'm sorry for all the tears, this was an emotional video, but i wanted everybody to know whats happening, things like this should not be allowed in our country,or anywhere, especially in our schools where we shape our children for their future . Children should not be oppressed for who they are. Help us be the change, be the change. Lets fix the world together.

    Sue them. Put them on blast. This needs to be public.

      Unfortunately unless the school receives some funding from the federal govt this kind of expulsion wouldn't be covered under the federal law and most state laws only protect in discrimination by businesses or in housing. Many states especially in the South have no protections at all. Even in California two teens expelled from a Lutheran school for being lesbians lost their suit bc the school was 100 percent privately funded.

      This issue needs to be publicized. Stuff like what is described in this video won't change unless a spotlight is shown upon the problem. Prejudice like this breeds in silence. It's only when exposed that it can be changed.
      While you may have teachers there who are supportive, those teachers are going to have to work in a workplace that puts their desire to help students in the closet as well. The teachers who are supportive can't be as helpful as they may want to be unless you help them change the system.
      Don't let the school hide on this.

      You can't sue a private school for that. They aren't government run and you sign contracts basically signing all your rights and your soul away.

    • @austinlgregoire
      @austinlgregoire 9 лет назад +11

      I see how the fact that this is a private school could be an issue, however I think it is important to note how they went about handling it. If they simply stated this was against the beliefs of the institution, that may be the case. However by involving the decision into his life outside of school would be using his personal freedoms outside of the institution against him. You can't tell someone that they cannot post videos about their life choices outside of the classroom, thats an infringement of freedom of speech and expression. Just as your job can't fire you for talking bad about it outside of work as long as you aren't releasing confidential information.

      William Gutierrez I am an education major and the reason why this is possible is due to the fact that he attended a private school, they do not follow any school system or policies like public schools do. They are ran by people who have certain views. I personally am not a fan of private or independent schools and certainly would not bother working at a school that would do such a thing. I would rather go and work in a public school or have my own school and have everyone learn about acceptance. I myself am also gay and I would rather just be open than to quit by "choice" if the private institute found out that I am gay.

    • @4900567228
      @4900567228 9 лет назад +1

      TomoyaKun100 I know and your right it is better to leave by choice. Nonetheless discrimination based on views is still discrimination, it just baffles me. You sign up to be taught not to be a gay "figure".

    I spent my entire career teaching in a religious based (Catholic) school system. I eventually chose early retirement, because I could no longer support the hypocrisy of pretending to be a school based on Christian principles while at the same time denying the existence of the LGBTQ kids there, "suggesting" reparative therapy, or making them feel there was something "wrong" with them. Bigotry, even disguised as religion, is STILL bigotry. I completely understand the issue of students and staff at a private school not having the same legal protection as their "public" counterparts, but what the school has done is anything BUT moral or Christian. Hold your head high, Austin. You are an inspiration to so many kids as well as adults. The bigotry needs to be called out loud and clear. G-d bless you!

    Okay, so I don't know you, Austin, and just discovered you because of publicity about this video. But what Mr. School Principal did is just ignorant and archaic. Fortunately such people are dwindling in numbers, and society is changing. Hang in there. I'm 60 now, so you can imagine how hard it was to grow up gay 40-50 years ago. Things ARE changing, and with young people like you things will continue to change. Keep speaking your truth and sharing your experience. For each of the dozens or hundreds who comment, there are dozens more who can't be public yet. Your voice gives them hope.

    As a lesbian of the Christian faith, who also went to a Christian school, with all the words floating around my head, all I can say is: Thank You. So much.
    During my enrollment at my Christian school [freshman and sophomore year], I was in heavy denial of my own sexuality and it caused a lot of harm to myself. I had heard that the year prior, there was a guy who was expelled for being openly gay; he never did anything wrong, obeyed all the rules otherwise, loved our God. Of course upon hearing this, intense fear began to rattle me; the notion that I would never belong anywhere I considered dear to me once I would start to be true to myself. While I wasn't removed from the school for being gay [it was health, grade, money-related issues], I knew that once I started accepting myself, I could never go back after I had planned doing so for senior year. Just the other day, I was at a christian winter camp with some people from my new church and all I could think about, upon hearing their homophobic slanders, was that they would never accept who I was. The word "outcast" echoed in the hollows of my mind that weekend, despite the previous comfort of the pastor's words of acceptance and love for all and the ceremonious murmurs of agreement from the very people who I ended up being afraid of.

I'm not really a supporter, but I'm not going to be mean to those you are a support and who are gay. It's their choice. I loved this video and I will make sure it is heard about. I always have positive comments about gay people, which really should make me a supporter. So yeah. I guess what I am trying to say is I don't support it, I support the decision of those who decide to be gay. You guys are a really cute couple. With much love between you.

    I want you to know how deeply your heartfelt video affected me. I "lived" in the closet until my 33rd birthday, when I finally decided too much of my life had already passed me by, and that I had to act to save my own life. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do, and I wasn't sure I had enough strength to really do it.
    I shed so many tears fearing what it was I was going to face in my new world. Everything in me screamed DANGER! and I wanted so badly to just run away from life, just as I had always done. But I knew full well that to continue to stay hidden meant that my closet would no doubt become my tomb. At that point in my journey, truly there was nothing of life in my "life", and it was only when I had nothing but the beating of my badly-broken heart and the breath in my lungs left to lose that I knew I really had no choice but to chose *life*.
    Your story and mine differ on many points no doubt, but it seems we both found ourselves faced with the same decision: deny our own humanity where we were, with consequences we knew too well, or live our truth in dignity and in the belief that God would catch us in our respective leaps of faith.
    Neither of us took the "easy" way and the world doesn't always greet us with open arms, but truth is, we cannot live for the world's approval, and we cannot expect anyone else to love us if we cannot love ourselves enough to know that we deserve the full, joy-filled life God wants for us.
    It will never be easy being different in a world much too used to fearing and outright hating differences, but I promise you, the only thing more difficult is trying to be someone or something you're not.
    I pray no more tears for you, except those created in joy, and I pray a constant peace upon you, knowing that being faithful to your beautiful heart is exactly what your Maker wants for you!
    Stay strong, little brother. What you do here makes a difference! Of that, I have no doubt!

It's stupid to not let a child have sleepovers if they're straight and the opposite gender is there as well. I never understood that. Just because another person spends the night doesn't mean you're gonna bang them. I'm sorry you have to go through that.

    I'm so sorry that happened!!! I'm also openly gay. At my school, it's not like that. (I'd sue the guy ) But, I did get sexualy assaulted by a classmate (male) who tried to "turn me straight". I told my one of my teachers who I trust, but when she told me she reported exactly what I said to the principal, including that I was gay, he didn't seem to really care. She told me it's probably because I'm gay. I think this is bull crap. I can't technically get them in trouble because the perv did get a talking to, but it wasn't enough for what he did. I really love and appreciate my teacher for her always being behind my back. I hope things change. Let's all make a difference!!!

    I saw this video earlier today, and made sure I came back to it after work so I could post my thoughts. I've gone back and watched a handful of your videos on your youtube page, and I think what you've been doing is courageous, adorable, and amazing! I was going through the coming out phase of my life in high school as well, but it was JUST as the internet was becoming a household commodity. I would search nightly online (pre google) for answers, or chatrooms, or just anyone or anything to give me insight as to what I was going through. I would have died to come across your videos when I was 16...especially with that incredible message of "you're never alone...you have us!" I watched as countless kids in my small town in MN either transferred schools, endured the bullying, or sadly took their own lives. You have thus far taken the bull by the horns, and decided it was on you, to not only share your story, but encourage others to be who they are....gay, straight, or otherwise. At your age, that's a big task to undertake, and I applaud you! I am outraged at what you've been going through with your school, and whether you choose to make it public, or whether it ends up coming out in the wash, I hope these school authorities are held accountable for their actions. My generation of gays started the "it gets better" movement. It was intended to kick start the notion that life, out of high school, especially for the GLBTQ community does get better as you move out into the real world. Not to diminish anything you're going through, and to say that high school isn't real....because what you're going through is very real, and at the moment it sucks! But I know there will come a day, where you will look back on this video with pangs of sadness at what happened, and the struggles it put you through, but also pride that you took a stand, and an awareness of how many other young people, or maybe even people not so young, you've had a dramatic and incredibly positive effect on! You have so many people on your side! Wishing you the best...keep on being you!

      +JoeySimon7 But maybe it's not federal funded. My school is like his too, sadly. A girl in my class got expelled for saying that she was a lesbian. I wish I knew how to stand up for her at that time but I was under the impression that being gay, bisexual and anything like that was wrong because that was all I ever knew. Then I started watching youtube. I realized that being yourself and being gay isn't a sin (my school is also private). All I have to do is be who I am and if people don't like it, it's there fault. Not mine :)

He is deeply affected by this situation in a negative way and his boyfriend knows it. I have to say you're either being courageous or dramatic for putting your life out there, but there's one thing that is distracting from your message in this video. I want to listen to what you are saying, and not get distracted by the intense PDA going on with your bf in the video with you. I don't care that you're both male. I wouldn't care if there were two women making a similar video, or a couple of two different races, or a short-haired vs long-haired or any combination of any 2 human beings. I would have the same feeling about a woman, trying to post an anti-rape/pay inequality/sexual harassment/take-your-pick message, if her boyfriend was sitting there rubbing her everywhere and kissing on her. There's a time and a place for stroking thighs, chests, etc., and nuzzling & kissing and so forth. I don't find it disgusting at all; I find it inappropriate for this setting and situation. While you're attempting to publicly convey a serious message about a serious problem in our culture is NOT an appropriate time for those behaviors. It's perfectly fine for a friend or partner to be there to support you, but you are sending seriously mixed signals, including enforcing the common misperception that homosexuals can't keep their hands off each other.

      The guy was very upset and distraught, and I can totally understand why his boyfriend was caressing him. In these circumstances it's in no way sexual, it's just calming and relaxing. Im so sorry that you have to deal with people's bullshit. One thing that might help to keep in mind is that in order for change to happen, some individuals have to go through shitty situations for the general public to care about our cause and demand change. While it blows that you have to go through this, if your story causes even a teeny bit of change in a religious school, the next gay kid may be spared this experience because you went through it first. That doesnt change how shitty all of this is, but it may be a bit of a silver lining.

      +françois Nardou actually I go to a catholic school and we learned that there is a separation between state and church. But I do think it's disgraceful how us Christians are taught to love everyone and to not judge yet stuff like this happens because of pure hatred and ignorance.

      +Girl vs Challenge --- there are states that have anti discrimination laws that include sexual orientation and although a catholic school may forbid open discussion of the subject while at school they may NOT refuse a student based on orientation, nor can they demand he surrender his first amendment right to free speech when the student is not in school. In fact, it would be illegal in my state for the school to even ask him if he was gay.

    • @teslavate
      @teslavate 8 лет назад

      +Girl vs Challenge sometimes I think if the catholic church had its way we would have another round of the inquisition and start putting people to the question while some freak pulls his finger nails off. You have a strange dichotomy in the catholic church in that you have the liberal and loving messages from the pope, but then you have the localized pedophiles and overly violent "disciplinary actions" of certain priests and nones. You say you are about separation of C & S and yet the church is not. In fact the church IS a political theocracy, with the church in complete control of the Vatican country. And you have large numbers of Catholics even in the US who jump at the order of the pope.

      Catherine Winchester This depends on the state he is in. There are very few states that offer protection against discrimination against LGBT persons and even if he was in a state that offered protection the private schools wouldn't count. Right now there are many states where LGBT people can be kicked out of their homes, workplaces, denied services and even denied medical care based on sexual orientation or gender identity. And there are some people who are doing their damndest to keep it that way. That is why it is important for these kids and people like them to speak out about their discrimination to make others aware that they are being discriminated against because there are so many out there unaware of this. Contrary to the belief of some in here (not you Catherine) it doesn't make you weak to cry or express pain over such discrimination. It doesn't make you weak to want help either. It doesn't make you weak to stand up and say that this isn't fair because it isn't fair to be judged by the world as being any less deserving of equality than any other person. Treating LGBT persons as if they should not belong here or have this or live in this place or go to that school is to say to them that they are less than a human being and it is to say that they don't deserve the same things as the rest of the human race. LGBT people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect and like human beings.

      He attended a private religious school. Now as much as I disagree with bigotry, a privately funded religious organization by the constitution is allowed to be discriminatory. They have first amendment rights. However the first amendment does not protect them from freedom of speech. Therefore they are not immune to public ridicule for their bigoted views and actions. The worst place for a bigoted private school is in the full view of the public eye.

    Maybe I am a little bit evil, but what I would do is to just address which school is this to some pro-LGBT organizations or this video even. The school needs to learn a lesson. This is a hate discriminating crime you are dealing with, Austin. If no one reports the principal's homophobic ways then more young kids in the future would be the victims. But at the same time you are dealing with this professionally, so kudos to you. However, everyone needs to know about this school's homophobia. Stay strong. It's not worth it to stay in such places, anyway, so your decision of leaving can never be wiser.

    I am a christian (please no negativity. I am not a jesus pusher) and even I can not think of a reason why this could be acceptable. I can't say that I believe everything in the bible but even if I did this is still unacceptable. It specifically says in Luke 6:37 that you are not supposed to judge others. Also in Matthew 7:12 it says to treat others how you would like to be treated. Even as a christian I will never agree with people who are against others because of their personality. Telling him to go back into the closet or to not be gay is like telling a person to change the color of their skin. People fight for equality between races but what about equality between people who are gay and straight?

      Proud Allie who supports the cause because what happened to him was a down right disgusting and bigoted thing to do. Him being who he is shouldnt be the school's business. As he said,he never mentioned the school name,he never wore their uniform and he never did or said anything that would reflect the school in any way.If this school was so religious as it said it was,they would've known that Jesus loves ALL of his children,no matter what. If he was walking the earth today i honestly dont think Jesus would have gave a half of a damn if anyone was gay or not. He's happy and proud of who he is and to tell him to go back into the closet is is oppression. You CANNOT force someone to be who they not. He has every right to express how he feels and how this situation is effecting him and how even though out country is changing,its not fast enough,and its definitely not an equal change. If more videos like this are not made,then the message will not go out and nothing will be done and more people like Austin will be forced to be oppressed and put back into the closet to make people "look better." He acting the way ANYONE in his situation would act. Stop your mess.

    • @jalicea1650
      @jalicea1650 9 лет назад +6

      musiclover91ful In this country we have a first amendment. The school follows true Christianity. The evangelical style of biblical literalism. They believe gays are immoral and will go to hell. Sadly, their beliefs are correct according to Leviticus etc.
      He goes to a private school where they choose how you can act etc. Abide by the rules or face expulsion. This isn't a public school system. He has no right to sue nor to claim he's being discriminated against. He chose to go to a private school with the understanding of his rights and what was expected of him within the school's parameters.
      He chose to act in a way that was not in conformity to his school thus he was expelled. It's not about being discriminated against because he knew before entering the school what the bible says and how he would be treated by the administrators. He chose it anyways. It sucks. He needs to move on!

    • @musiclover91ful
      @musiclover91ful 9 лет назад +22

      So how you you feel if you're told to stop going around preaching the word simply because no one likes it? Because your disrespecting people with different religions? You'd be quick to claim how your rights are being infringed upon. Tis is the same thing for him. He has a right to be who he is. He knew he was gay and he chose to continue to go to that school because he thought the school would protect him. Which they failed at. As he said in the video.he was openly gay,meaning EVERYONE KNEW HE WAS GAY. So why all of a sudden was it an issue? If he wasnt in anyway harming the school and their reputation then the school shouldnt have stepped in and told him to either hide who he is or leave. If you have the first amendment,then so does he. If he still loves jesus and his faith,then let him be. Stop being a bully.

    • @jalicea1650
      @jalicea1650 9 лет назад +4

      I'm a believer of the First Amendment and I know exactly what I can and cannot do. I'm also Hispanic so I know the price of discrimination. I know where and what I can do due to society's views.
      In the video he said he went to a private school. He also claimed it to be a christian school. He chose to act in a certain way against the rules of the private school. I'm not being a bully because I'm reminding him and everyone he has no leg to stand on.
      Remember we have laws and we have norms. He chose to defy the norms of his school. He chose to claim he was being discriminated. Legally speaking he wasn't. Why? Because the First Amendment protect the right to discriminate. When he says he was discriminated its inferring that he was a victim. In this one case he wasn't. For he chose it willingly by going to a school where they followed true Christianity.

    I commend your strength for making the decision you made. And that you have taken the high road in not naming the school or principal. BUT, its much like a rape victim not naming their attacker. It will go public, I'm sure. One of your friends, or possibly a teacher, or a news channel will share your story and will identify the school (probably to get their side of the story as well). And it should be made public. Other parents may wish to take their kids out of that environment...while I'm sure other will applaud the principal's "moral standing". That may be part of their "policies" or "moral code", but maybe its outdated and time to change that.
    (A side note: I'm sure the boyfriend is loving and supportive and trying to be comforting... but he comes across as more interested in making a different type of video with all of his rubbing, caressing, and pulling you in for ill-timed kisses)

      Austin is a young lad of 17/18 years, relating his experience of being humiliated by his school principle for being gay and publishing his account of it. His age is of no importance to any of us, despite the rantings of "rumblesofrevolution" re paedophillia, or those of the christian faith, who feel that christianity and gayness cannot be accepted, that is pure bigotry ! Our sexuality is not a path we choose, it's a path we accept, if we are honest with ourselves. Sexual feelings come on us all at some time in our lives, generally from puberty, and normally we accept them and go forward. Unfortunately, many children who find themselves attracted to a person of the same sex become confused and frightened, because it is not the "NORM" - so their feelings are kept to themselves and they start leading a lie, whilst there are those who are strong and "come out" at an early age and embrace their sexuality and all it brings. This is what Austin has done, and he has been penalized for it. He is a teenager, his emotions are high. Thankfully, he has someone by his side supporting him, also a teen, who is stroking, kissing and fondling Austin as he narrates his story. WHY do some people think this action is wrong ? He just being a supportive teenage boyfriend, for God's sake. The BIGOTS of this world should be ashamed, his tutors should have been more vocal; his parents more supportive, and the principal brought to account.
      I am a UK resident, and believe me, this would not have been tolerated ! the local council, board of governors, and the member of parliament would have been involved. Uproar would have ensued, and the school/college etc brought to account.
      This young man deserves all the support available, not just for him, but for all those other children/teens who are going through their sexual identity problems.

Threatening to expel you because of something you cannot control is atrocious and outrageous and repulsive. I'm sharing this everywhere I can, because people need to see this. People need to see how affected you are by this, and they need to understand how much it fucking hurts when we are not accepted just because we don't fit into the cookie-cutter stereotype. We have to stand out and make them realize that PEOPLE END THEIR LIVES OVER THIS BULLSHIT. People make themselves die because other people have made them want it. They need to realize how fucking sick that is. As I said, I didn't even know you, and I still don't, really, but I am so proud of you.
