PCA instructor here. Track days are fun and addictive, aren't they? Here are a few thoughts... 1. Never go to a track 'blind'. Watch videos or do a sim of the track so you know the corners already in you mind. When you pointed driving down the front straight the opposite direction, key to me you weren't familiar with COTA. You're way behind the 8 ball if you don't know / have a visual of the track before you begin. 2. Walk before you run. Go slow and get the proper line down first before adding speed. Looks like you had a few spins from trying to go too fast too early. Spins are dangerous for you and the others on the track. Get the line down, then build speed. 3. Never ask the instructor where to brake. He doesn't know your car - hp, brakes, tires, etc. You have to develop that feel / instinct as to when to brake. And brake zones change every lap. If you come off a corner better / faster, you'll go down the straight faster so you have to adjust the upcoming brake zone to sooner. If you slow down to let someone pass, your brake zone can be later since you're not coming into the corner with your normal speed. You have to develop that feel for each unique situation. See pt #2. Your instructor was a little late with his commands. He needed to give them to you early enough so you could process them and then execute them. He was giving you the command when it needed to be executed, so no way you could do it in time.
@terrylessmann2274, thanks for the advice! Yeah, I was not prepared at all! I spent all my time getting the car ready to even be out there. I have a video coming out on that soon. Yeah, before my second track day I watched several videos on the lines and was much more prepared. What events do you attend?
@@TaterNaterOfficial I've driven Laguna Seca, COTA, and Indy. All PCA events. And did a NASA event at Kansas Speedway. Want to drive Barber someday. My YT channel has my adventures. The newer vids are my best driving.
HPDE instructor here that spends a lot of time coaching at COTA. With time, you will learn more about weight transfer and how it affects friction/grip. An unloaded tire has significantly less grip than a loaded tire.
@ShelbyFlyer, thanks for the comment and tip! Yeah, I'm thinking I need adjustable suspension arms to dial in my suspension further. I have coilovers but my contact patch isn't great when I lowered it. When I raise it up for more contact patch, then I have too much body roll and then an unloaded tire. I'll be getting adjustable suspension parts before going back out in the fall with the TrackAddicts. What group do you go to COTA with?
This is not a race, is a DE or track day and the goal is to learn how to drive. You were too focus on being fast instead of learning the track and hitting your breaking points and apexes. You were overdriving the car. Remember: smooth is fast. I bet your instructor ended up with brown pants 😅
@hernanorihuela3230, thanks for the feedback. I'm just getting into the car scene and I have a lot to learn! You couldn't be more right, on my second track day I was much more smooth and shaved almost 17 seconds of my lap time. Hope you enjoy my amateur videos! I plan on going again in the fall. Cheers!
That’s was dope bro. How often is the event and how much
@RichieRuch12391 the guys from work were saying they go 5 times a year. It was $500 for two sessions with an instructor. Was totally worth it!
@@TaterNaterOfficial ahh dope
