Bowman's team didn't appeal the disqualification because the car was much too light. Even after refueling and adding the weight of the part that Bowman lost. That just gave Joey a chance to make the final four. He clinched being in the final four by winning his next race. Even then he had to win the final race of the season to win the championship.
