Sir,Switzerland has a direct democracy.they use plebiscite for solving land disputes,referendum for taking govt.decisions,recall for removing govt. officers, and initiative.Switzerland has around 86.4lakhs population that is short population.hence we can say that direct democracy may be existed where population is very less and it has political equality
