Like I have said on other review channels - the DJI Flip is just out of market-segment, that is, it's competing with the DJI Neo which is already a great portable and super-durable selfie-drone and then there's the almighty DJI Mini 4 which is pretty much the sweet spot as far as Mini drones go and it's unlikely it can ever be topped before hitting the DJI Mavi Pro series and then other industrial drones etc, so the DJI Flip simply has not market segment or put in other words - no use and is therefore totally unnecessary. DJI made a huge mistaken releasing the Neo then the Flip - the Neo is just so much better in almost all aspects except for the camera but honestly - as a quick selfie-drone, who cares if the image isn't exactly cinematic or super high-resolution - it fits the mold it was designed for and therefore is the king of it's domain! Long way of saying the DJI Flip simply has to FLOP!
Disagree with you. The Flip is awesome👍I sold my Neo and bought the Flip. So much better camera on par with the Mini 4 Pro. I use it as backup drone for my Mini 4 Pro and for the versatility to use it for indoor flying and some tracking when needed. I love the simplicity of the Flip and the quick start, automatic on/off option and better wind resistance compared to the Neo. It’s the perfect bridge between the Mini 4 Pro and the bigger drones, like my Air 3. So my personal opinion is very positiv about the Flip. I flew it over water and with pigeons here in NL. The video is on my YT channel now. The drone performed even better than expected! The closed propeller guards is perfect protection when birds attack the drone, less chance to crash. I also love the unique design of The Flip. So for me a great drone, absolutely TOP! Greetings from 🇳🇱
You're decision but most of the reviewers haven't even read the instructions, they're just following the trend of slating it. It says on the first page of the manual that the rubber gimble cover isn't for reuse but there they are putting it off & on. It's different yes, it's got a great camera in a robust frame with all the new features the neo brought in. Does it fit in you're pocket no & nobody said it was meant to, you take it out you're bag & have it in the air in less than 30 secs. Would a mini 4 pro survive being dropped from head height? Probably not
@ChadB i think that's an over simplification. The fast deployment has made for some great shots. Plus it's able to follow closer and lower than the mini. For narrative film it's been great already
I brought the flip I've found it to be great and also have a air 3 and neo i found the flip can be used for multiple purposes the quality of the camera footage is great to i totally understand the flip struggles a bit in the wind however I would use my air 3 anyway in circumstances like that anyway the neo is surprisingly good for the price and again i use the neo only for certain situations to get very close to objects overall the flip great for what i used it for cheers col from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺 👍
I did actually the opposite. I return the neo unopened, and bought the flip. I needed the better camera. For what i'm using it for out of the box without the controller is fine. Unfortunately, I had to buy the controller, but i'm glad I did. It's nice having a screen. In one unit without having to attach a phone, do a controller. And if I buy the different d g I drone, then I'll already have a great controller. That's unless congress forbids us from buying d ji drones.

Dude, with the flip you can get more fly time, can fly at night without issues, can fly over water, better wind resistance, faster, quieter, 3 axis gimbal, better camera 4k/60, dlog...
@@victorsandoval6501 I get all that - it is better compared to the specs of the Neo but like I said - there's no market segment for it - given the Neo does pretty much everything the Flip does except for the better camera (there's an argument for form-factor that the Neo is better) and it's sandwiched between the Neo and the Mini 4 Pro which it cannot rival so is therefore pretty much uncessary!
I purchased mine on release day. and like you mine is still sealed and on it's way back. After watching several reviews I decided that my fleet (basically the same as yours) is sufficient. there are too many things missing on this unit that could have made it an outstanding drone. Getting my money back and looking forward to seeing the Mini 5 Pro. Thanks for the video, Chad.
Finally! A truly honest video on the Flip. It’s a great drone like every other one DJI has made but like you said, it is kinda redundant, especially for those who already own a mini 3, 4 pro which basically has the same camera. Great video as always Chad. God bless!
Great video my dude. I gave my mini 4 pro to my son. I have the Neo and the Air 3s. I purchased the Flip. I’m digging it so far. It feels in the void of that Mini 4 pro I gave away.
Chad, thanks for your comment, I did the same as you with the difference that I didn't receive it after reviewing comments I asked DJI to cancel the order, a drone so noisy and uncomfortable is not justified I think DJI should think very carefully about the characteristics before launching, not launch it and then correct it. Thanks u
hi chad alot of people consider flip a vlogging drone but like you said you can vlog with any drone i have neo and mini4 pro but also purchased flip for its unique design i do feel its more than a vlogging drone as the camera is on par with mini 4 pro fitting in between neo and mini 4 pro i think gives people the option of having best of both worlds at 1/2 the price so far i have been impressed how it flys did i really need it prob not but because i love other two drones flip intrigued me am keepin mine i do understand you decision though
I honestly don't know why people were so hyped to get that drone, really. I still fly my air 2, and air 2S. Yeah, they're old but still fly like new. I've never crashed either one, and I hope I don't. I'm not the kind of person that buys a drone every time a new one comes out. I've thought about getting the air 3S, but with all that crap going on with customs, I'm not messing with that. Maybe, if they come to best buy or something I'll get it then. Right now the shelves are all empty everywhere. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍
Great review. It’s easy to buy the newest just because, but being able to determine if it’s really necessary is key. I’m still working with the air 2 for that very reason. Yes I can use a bigger sensor for low light shooting, but I was able to supplement with non drone shots and everything worked out fine.
I bought one and it's setting in a warehouse in Louisville, Ky waiting for U.S. Customs to clear it for shipping to me. I'm pretty sure there is more in the shipment than my drone, but I've been waiting 10 days to see it ship out. I guess I'm just lucky!
Customs seized my Flip, so I cancelled the order, got a refund then bought a Hoverair. I still want a Flip for the better camera and a bigger version of the Neo, but by the time I get to buy one maybe the Neo 2 will be revealed or released.
Just goes to show you shouldn't just buy the latest drone...it might not be that good...still regret buying the mini 4 pro when I already have a mini 3 pro...stuck with my air 3 though and so glad I did
Good video. I was hoping it was a larger neo with features of mini 4 pro. Lacks waypoints and 360 obstacle avoidance. No remote id even. Probably good for 1st drone but nothing to add if have a neo and mini pro. Yes, I use the Neo for travel and it is really susceptible to wind. However, the honest video reviews I’ve seen on RUclips actually show that the flip is pretty bad in the wind. So it doesn’t even have that over the Neo.
flip is a great drone...yes it has some flaws, but updates will sort that..me personally i never listen to youtube reviewers, they get them free and have to be postive in my eyes, or else they wont get any more..should of least given it a go...
Great video as always. I decided to pass on the flip myself as well as with the Air 3 series. I found chasing the latest and greatest was expensive and unnecessary...lol.
All DJI "influencers" in tandem, are blackwashing DJI FLIP in favor of NEO and MINI 4 pro. Don't be fooled by them. NEO is a toy, and FLIP is almost a MINI 4 pro but with HALF a price. Buying FLIP is a no brainer.
another small segment use drone that they try to nickel and dime us with incremental upgrades they could’ve been done easily in just one drone in fact they’ve already done it but they just start over again with a new name. I stop playing that game for drones ago.. The alleged drone influencers (they’re are very few honest influencers Like yourself) want to keep getting free equipment. They are going to talk sweetly about anything the drops out of the rear end of DJI.
Hi Chad, IMO the Flip is a flop. On hand catching it nips one's fingers and flops over. The Flip is useless in fog and the only good attribute of the Flip is the video. However, if one has a Mini 3 or Mini 4 Pro the video capability is redundant. My Flip is being returned for refund.

He returned it because he realized he already has six drones! Why did you think you needed this in the first place?
Flip works for me
Very glad DJI made this drone
How do you stand the noise tho. I could hear the flip streets away. Mini 4 and air 3 have like half the volume
Flip is good aswell, great drone as it shares mine 4 pro camera and shares neo features, so it's a win and win for me. Best combination 😍 👌

IN CONCLUSION: If you already own a DJI NEO and a DJI Mini 4 Pro then you don’t need a DJI Flip.
Sound about right.
I agree with all the points you made which begs the question. Why did you order it in the first place? Did you get caught up in the hype?

That's why the Flip is great for beginners or someone who needs prop gaurds for filming. But not for me.
@ChadB i think that's an over simplification. The fast deployment has made for some great shots. Plus it's able to follow closer and lower than the mini. For narrative film it's been great already
Don't forget the Mini 4 has obstacle avoidance so it doesn't have to be as tough as the flip. Flip is to noisy and jittery in the wind. No thanks.
I don’t think anyone thinks about subsequent updates, I love the flip ❤

I need good video resolution.
I need DLOG
I need covered props.
I need to fly it close to people (actors)
I need DJI Flip...
I like the 45-minute battery. The Neo only lasts a few minutes.

Hey Micheal... Thanks. I just didn't see myself using the Flip as much. Having a better camera doesn't make it practical.
@ChadB 👍👏
I'm having fun with the Flip, but your commentary is spot on Chad. Another friend of mine described the Flip as "neither fish nor fowl".
Hey Marcus... Thanks. Yes, I agree.
If you have the giggles v3 the neo us a must have for the price even better if you can get a deal on a second hand one.
It's a sub 250g drone, remote ID is only required if you fly over a CROWD of people (assembly) not just 'people'
Great video my dude. I gave my mini 4 pro to my son. I have the Neo and the Air 3s. I purchased the Flip. I’m digging it so far. It feels in the void of that Mini 4 pro I gave away.

Yup, it does get expensive. There is no need to buy every new drone that comes out.

Thanks. Just received my pocket 3 today and am already enjoying it.
I didn't know that!!!
The biggest problem with that drone is that it cannot handle wind at all, it has too big of a footprint in the sky for its weight
