For those wondering why DJI didn’t put remote ID in this drone, here’s more info. The FAA doesn’t require RID in sub-250g drones flown recreationally. This IS a recreational drone. If DJI adds remote ID, it would force users to broadcast RID when it’s not required by law. DJI tried that months ago with the Mini series and received a lot of backlash from the recreational community. In this situation, either DJI pisses of recreational pilots (the intended target for this drone) by adding RID, or they piss off Part 107 pilots (not the intended target) by not adding RID. Lose/lose situation. And no, DJI can’t have an ON/OFF switch for RID in the drone, that’s not allowed by regulation. If you are a part 107 operator who wishes this drone was category 1 compliant, politely message DJI and tell them you would be interested in a Pro version of this drone.
@@PilotInstitute maybe a slightly reduced battery size with remote id built into the battery? Bah, just throwing ideas at the wall here. Cat 1 would be the most compelling reason for a drone like this for me, over my mini4.
They have remote ID tech in the drone for other countries so they don’t need to add anything. They can make a Pro version of this drone by changing a few lines of code.
Greg. Your video presentation is the only one that I found so far that took the time to explain to new and old recreational pilots the regulations on flying over people and category 1 requirements. Plus, you wrote an explaination in the comments on "Why DJI didn't put remote ID in this drone...." I have watched numberous videos and everyone else gave a vague explanation. Thank you for providing a great introductory video on this new product.
Hope the Mini 5 Pro comes with prop guards and similar in Mini series design making it class 1 to fly over people without a waiver. That with Lidar and the Mini 5 Pro would fly off the shelves! ❤ Thank you guys for the great review. Your videos are always top notch! 😊
Sir, thanks to you and your channel I took the TRUST test and downloaded the app you recommended . I want to buy this drone, but I am confused and need further clarification. Every time I want to fly the drone, I check the fly area, if it is restricted do it still need to fill out the information even though I do not have to register the flip? in other words before I flay I must check and let FAA know for approval Right? Thank you
Hi Guys. I have a question? If you add on a RID module to the DJI Flip? Why does this still not allowed 🚫 to fly over people exemption? Is it just something for whatever reason our friends at the FAA gave a no exceptions clause that it has to be built in RID into the aircraft? 😮 Thank you for any help you can offer?
I understand that we will as a drone pilot be up to us to use Air Control to be sure we are permitted to fly in controlled airspace. Little buildings or big ones that were once geofenced it will still be up to us to take responsibility and not necessarily anger the wrong people. 😊 Other drone companies don’t have it because the FAA I assume knows the PIC is responsible for the aircraft.
It’s not about weight. It’s about regulation. The FAA doesn’t require RID for recreational drones under 250g. This is a recreational drone. If they add it, they force rec pilots to broadcast RID when they don’t have to.

Maybe we could ask for the same thing they did for the mini4? + sized batteries that enable remote id?
Plus sized battery would make the drone over 250g, aka not cat 1 anymore.

Hi Greg, are those Pilot Institute swag available in the site to purchase?
Do you think that this Flip drone will ever be included to the Mini 3 Pro RC controller?
What's the pros/cons of this vs the Neo, aside from the folding props on the Flip?

Adding a module takes it over 250 grams, which disqualifies it as Category 1.
Big news in USA Today: DJI removed Geofencing restrictions in the app

If you put an ND filter and an SD card in it. I think you'll find you're over the 250 g limit.
No, the drone with SD card is 247g. The ND filter is less than 3g for sure, more like 1g.
I don't understand why they haven't put remote ID in these sub 250g drones- i cant imagine it weighs that much in the internals.

@@OnlyTheDronieProbably it’s a manufactures option. I wish they’d as well give an option to turn RID on or off. Not sure why it’s a big deal to DJI?
