I once bought a car from Carmax and opted for a 3 year extended warranty (for $300). I’m glad I did, because just 4 months before the warranty expired, the car began burning through a quart of oil every week. I took it in for repairs and Carmax did over $1k worth of engine work and only charged me a $25 deductible, plus I got a free loaner car until my car was ready. Worth every penny.

I’m looking for a car and I checked Carmax website. They mentioned they have only 3 months warranty ( 4k miles ). So, Do they have any option to extend the warranty? And if yes then what’s the process?

Carmax is my go to place if I need to buy another used car. They beat traditional dealerships hands down! No hassle, no pressure. They even held the car for me before I arrived and let me test drive it. The sales rep was cool, he went over the warranties without pressuring me, let me pay cash and I was out with my new car in no time. The transaction was quick and easy.

Bought one car from Carmax for teen daughter. Generally very satisfied with the experience. It was transferred from one state away for no charge. We test drove the car for only 30 minutes. It had an air leak where the steering column passed through to the engine compartment. This should have been detected before we were permitted to test drive the car but it was fixed promptly. We used the carmax financing to expidite the purchase but daughter refinanced to a lower rate within 30 days. Carmax even provided permanent plates and registration. We bought the extended warranty and it was even honored at the Chevy dealer when we needed it.

Based on my experience. Carmax apparently does inspect their vehicles and make necessary repairs. Their 30 day return policy, for a full refund, is unique to used car dealers. That is probably the best reason to do business with them.
On the negative side. Carmax significantly overvalues their cars. They also significantly undervalue trade in vehicles. Their non negotiable pricing benefits them more than the customer, IMO.

I just purchased a 2020 Jeep Wrangler from Camax. Had it transferred from Minnesota to Oregon. Paid the $1400 (gulp), but was completely satisfied with the transfer process. It took about ten days for the vehicle to arrive and for the inspection to be completed upon arrival. Because most of my paperwork was completed online, the in-store process on the day of my purchase was quick and easy. I was literally out the door with my new car in just over two hours. I arrived at my Carmax location here in Oregon after work at 7PM and was literally the last customer to leave the dealership that night at 9PM. A truly great experience all around. Thanks so much for sharing...

I have bought and sold many times from Carmax including my current car .I have been happy every time. Carmax holds most of its paper and there rates tend to be high so I generally just pre arrange financing . I am not sure you get the best price but its very transparent and they dont care if you buy a 20,000 or 50,000 dollar car

I don't know where they get their junk from anymore somebody bought a new car from them apparently in transfer they put some crappy tires on and all kinds of other issues with it and they didn't stand behind their warranty at all the only good thing was after 7 days you could trade it back he traded it back and said adios
That was very turned off by carvana I know a guy who got a Mazda MX-5 Miata who wanted one and yeah he lived in Tennessee a few years back and they had down in Texas through CarMax and he's been very very pleased with it.

I bought a car from Carmax, and it was as painless as you say. The only "unpleasantness" was after I agreed to buy the car, the sales guy was like "which extended warranty do you want"? He probably spent 10 minutes trying to convince me to purchase one of their extended warranty plans. I felt kind of bad for the guy, I figure that's the only thing he makes much commission from, but held firm and didn't buy any of the extended warranty plans. Had already arranged financing through my credit union, so it was pretty quick and easy. I enjoyed not haggling over the price.

Not true. I compared prices on same model cars with same options between dealers and Carmax. Worst are the used car dealers, the small guys. Their markup is 100%. If they paid $ 5,000 for a car, they will list it for $ 10,000 and push their financing. By the time car is paid for the price will be close to $ 16,000.

CarMax had a 2022 with 13K miles for the same price as my 2023 with 5 miles. Granted i had to go through 3 car dealers to get the price that i wanted. A couple of years ago, I purchased a new Toyota Corolla for my daughter. The local Carmax had a same year Corolla with a lesser trim and with 11K miles on sale for its no haggle price which was $1,200 more than the price I paid for the brand new Corolla.
Carmax is good only for people easily separated from their money.

I had a wonderful experience with CarMax, although it’s kinda of a long story. I used to have a 2015 Hyundai Sonata, it started falling apart and Hyundai wasn’t honoring their warranty even though the car only had 65,000 miles on it. So I opted to just get another vehicle. Carmax offered me $12,000 for it, that’s $3,000 more than Carvana and $9,000 more than Vroom so obviously I took Carmaxs offer. I had originally purchased a 2020 Nissan Rogue with 7,000 miles for $24,000. I had it transferred from Atlanta Georgia to Indianapolis ($250), it took 3 days to get here. Unfortunately it looked ridden hard and put away wet, lots of dings and scratches, the interior was dirty and it smelled bad. So I kept it for about two weeks, I’ve heard about 1200 miles on it and I did a 30 day return. The return process was completely seamless, it only took about 20 minutes. In the end, I purchased a 2019 Nissan Rogue with 15,000 miles for $26,000. I had it transferred from Ft. Lauderdale Florida to Indianapolis ($700), it took 10 days to get here. They told me the car was in like-new condition before I paid the transfer fee and it did indeed show up in like-new condition. I did get Maxcare, it’s for for 5 years or 125,000 miles. It only cost $1,900 so I felt it was a no-brainer. There were no doc fees. Oh, and my interest rate through Carmax auto finance was 2.95% on the first Rogue. I actually just decided to pay cash for the second one.

Back in 2017 I was searching for just a pre owned car, didn't want an SUV. Couldn't find what I wanted. Was talking to a friend who told me to try Carmax. Found what I was looking for a 2014 Toyota Camry SE Sport. Took about 5 days since it was coming from another state. Purchased the car within 3 months starting having issues with the car. Carmax Couldn't find the problem. Took it to 3 Toyota Dealerships same thing. One day was vacuuming back seats noticed it was loose pulled up the seat and there was trash all under the back seat. Kids toys, dried up cereal, Crayola pens etc. Took pictures and emailed Carmax. Told me they could give me a $25 Voucher for detailing the car🤦‍♂️😆. Still having issues with my 2014 too much to go into must have been a flooded car. In 2019 decided to look for something. Tried another Carmax at a different location. They gave me the most for my trade in. I got a 2018 Toyota Camry LE, after a Month starting noticing weird things, from the engine , and Electrical glitches. Had a fender bender in 2020. The shop told me the noticed I had a previous frontal accident. I said this was my first accident. They told me my car was in a previous wreck. With all of that being said. Carmax buying process is smooth sailing. You will find what you are looking for. But never again will I get another purchase from Carmax. Two Toyota Camry with issues and my 2010 Chevy Impala was more reliable.

    • @DaveDolphinOK
      @DaveDolphinOK  2 года назад +3

Start to finish, the process was about two weeks. I paid the transfer fee on June 4. The car left Alabama on June 6 and arrived in OKC June 11. My appointment to pick it up for a test drive was June 16, and I purchased it on June 17.
When I originally started the process, they said the car would be ready by June 27, then that was updated to June 18 when the car arrived in OKC. I appreciated that they under-promised and over-delivered on the timelines.

I don't know what the exact margin is for CarMax, but most retailers of any product buy their product at 45-65% of what they sell it for. The difference is called "margin" which is not the same as 'profit." The margin is what covers the cost of keeping the lights on, paying the associates, paying rent, marketing costs, shipping, insurance, etc. As someone who worked in a small business for over twenty years, I learned (unlike what thought before) that margin is what puts food on the table and keeps the business functional to serve the customers. The same principle applies to big business as well.

Carmax prices are generally higher than what you can negotiate at a traditional dealer. They have the highest gross profit per unit unit in the industry. $299 for a doc fee is insane! I have NEVER paid more than $85 for a doc fee. Carmax is for uneducated idiots!
