In this video, I demonstrate how to paint a mountain landscape in acrylics and give some tips on painting low-chroma mountain colours.
In this painting, I used loose, expressive brushwork and allowed the warm, burnt sienna underpainting to come through the paint layers.
This painting is inspired by the mountains around Queenstown in southern New Zealand.

Very articulate and easy to understand. And I love your loose style. Thanks.
Thanks so much 😀
Your clouds are awesome. Mine come out blocky in acrylics.
Thank you 😀
Wonderful light and shadows on these beautiful mountains ! Thank you Sam, perfect video !
Many thanks 🤩
Super awesome
Thank you so much 😀
Now I know a way to lighten my acrylic paintings! I'll skip the burnt sienna undercoat next time. Thank you!
Yeah, the burnt sienna undercoat can produce a great effect but it can result in your darks coming out too dark. When I paint in oils I always paint on a white surface as my colours look cleaner and it is easier to gauge my tonal values 😀
@@SamuelEarpArtist Thank you!
Wonderful painting showing the light and shadows. I love your work. Just as a suggestion for painting videos I know myself I like to see how you are mixing paint, pulling the paint onto your brush. Give us your list of paint colors on the screen instead of repeating these over and over. I get lost in the paint names rather than focusing on how to paint. Love your work. Thank you in advance. Linda
Great tutorial as always am. I noticed that you kept the value of the lake water light where in the picture it's quite a dark blue.
Thank you. I have to be honest I’ve taken so many photos of that mountain and I’m not sure that was the original photo I used for this painting. I painted this artwork about 6 months ago!
It would be helpful if you could show us u r palate. Thanks
Sorry about this, I think I forgot to film it. I’ll provide palette footage in future videos 😀
