Here's my take on Manning Sherwin and Eric Maschwitz's 'A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square', recorded live at Mr. Vain.
'A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square' was written by Sherwin and Maschwitz in 1939 and published the next year. The title was inspired by the title of a short story written by Michael Arlen in 1923: 'When the Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square'.
Early hits included those by Ray Eberle, Ray Noble, Guy Lombardo, and Sammy Kaye, and it has also been recorded by Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Anita O'Day, Nat King Cole, Carmen McRae, Perry Como, Bobby Darin, Mel Tormé, Blossom Dearie, Vera Lynn, Elsie Carlisle, Rod Stewart, Harry Connick Jr., and Michael Bublé, among others.
