When two lovers meet in Mayfair, so the legends tell Songbirds sing and winter turns to spring Every winding street in Mayfair falls beneath the spell I know such enchantment can be 'cause it happened one evening to me That certain night, the night we met There was magic abroad in the air There were angels dining at the Ritz And A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square I may be right, I may be wrong But I'm perfectly willing to swear That when you turn'd and smiled at me A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square The moon that lingered over London town; Poor puzzled moon, he wore a frown How could he know we two were so in love The whole darn world seemed upside down The streets of town were paved with stars It was such a romantic affair And as we kissed and said goodnight A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square
I grew up listening to a barbershop arrangement of this song, and greatfully put it in #1 position...as I too sang barbershop. I got the notification that a new post was up so I had to listen. #1 has been replaced... Le roi est mort...vive le roi!
I just can't seem to get enough of this performance - listening over & over again! Beautiful video work as well. Thank you for your music - looking forward to upcoming concert in NYC! Please sing this piece!!
Always loved this song, and play the piano version. I’ve never heard it sung like this. Enchanting. Brought a tear or two - that last harmony was just too unspeakably beautiful. Thank you.
That’s a wonderful new arrangement. Most previously have been SATB. Let me be the first to encourage you to publish this SSAATTBB arrangement with all due haste. Voces8 is an inspiration to a cappella choirs around the world.
Sorry, Ben... you or the rest of us don't know that. I think it was outstanding. Maybe post sweetened, but I don't think so. I would also look at the overall wide shots, verses close, with many matches in the vocal sync with the words and the actual film/tape. Obvious Old Ben has not gotten his scrathy voice recorded and then help edit those recordings. I have...several times as a keyboard Muscian, chorister, Ultra Soprano before 12, girls were jealous than, and eventually baritone when the "Men" fell into place after, until I left in my midtwenties, on at least three records and 4 film and video sessions. Radio & TV production major, radio announcer & live sound engineer recordist, videographer, director, and audio, film, & video tape editor on tape formats....Pick- up a Red or Dragon Camera, Ben, marry it with a steadcam and shooting monitors, maybe some fill/key lights, and some mic booms and let a ZOOM 6 or other digital deck record the group on audio or Atmos. I used a Video HiFi Stereo Sound Recorder once to record my Yamaha Original pieces and they came out ok. We got some digital flutter on one piece but actually liked the effect. Record something and then tell us it waa all studio recorded!.....poppycock! Live is unique, exciting, and a very historic one time events. Unforgetable and non-duplicateable!
Boat - "Too slow" says who? You? Not sure of the need to rank, but since you went there - while you're busy ranking and judging their 'performance', you are missing the entire message and flow of this lovely emotional romantic love tune. So rich, so beautiful. Voces8, you melt me.
MT's version will always be the benchmark to which others strive. This is lovely, but sounds too tentative to my ear, with overuse of surging delivery.
One of my favorites composers - George Enescu - once said 'There's no big music or small music. Only Good, or Bad'. So this was Good. Very Good. But my sweet Voces8 friends, don't forget your mission in this world. In Carols or Jazz, you're as good as Pentatonix or anyone else. But in classical and modern choir singing, you're the best by a mile. Still unbeatable. So stay healthy and go back to your roots. More Bach, more motets, more Eric Whtacre, more Arvo Part. You might also try some strange music from a strange country : ruclips.net/user/MadrigalOficial. Cheers !
i love that song. I'm doing that with my school concert choir. I don't know how it will sound with just eight voices though. My concert choir has 100 people in it.
AC...THAT's bland! True accappella is sweet... These recordings are excelent... Standing around mics sucks... I think you need to get out more k hard to nown I know.) and check out many choral groups. You'll see this group not only has the sound but presence in live recordiing. Yes, there probably are studio recordings for the recordings they perform, but not all fixed locations like Abby Roads offer consistantly good sound for all recordings. Look at Baltimore Consort. (Early Music Group) Very very few times did they ever record themselves on Dorian Records with any individual mics for their instruments or vocal music from star singer Custer LaRue, when she also sang sans solo pieces. The Troy Banks Performance Hall in Troy, NY was their hall of "record!" True One Point Binaural Recording process was accomlished and succeeded in getting perfect blends thru special audio production engineering on many of their albums. I didn't know the younger student, of my teacher, who started Dorian Records, his own recording company, too. I started one too, but progressed to video production and sound support... Dorian achievements in classical and early music recordings are renown in the industry. The label still exsists, but has been assimulated into another conglomerated record company...
I REALLY hate to criticize such wonderful voices and wonderful acoustics. BUT…this is a critique, not criticism. They sound like classical choir trying to sing jazz. It just doesn’t fit. There, I said it. These guys would sound wonderful singing Handel’s Messiah. But this song and VOCES8 just don’t fit together. No one will ever beat the Manhattan Transfer’s version of this song.
8 nightingales sang as I rested
In my favorite living room chair
And their singing actually bested
The nightingales in Berkeley Square❣️
Cringe comment
This is an absolutely stunning arrangement. Chills over and over.
When two lovers meet in Mayfair, so the legends tell
Songbirds sing and winter turns to spring

I know such enchantment can be
'cause it happened one evening to me
That certain night, the night we met

I may be right, I may be wrong
But I'm perfectly willing to swear
That when you turn'd and smiled at me
A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square
The moon that lingered over London town;
Poor puzzled moon, he wore a frown
How could he know we two were so in love
The whole darn world seemed upside down
The streets of town were paved with stars
It was such a romantic affair
And as we kissed and said goodnight
A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square
*Imagine opening your door to Voces 8 caroling on Christmas* 😂😂❗️
That would be awesome!
Wow... God, is this gorgeous. Beautiful arrangement, love the chords and the balance of the voices is perfect! Phrasing is amazing. Great job!
Потрясающе!
Extended harmonies bang-on. Made me think of the King’s Singers.
Your ancient music is top notch but so are these newer songs!
Three words:
Fantastic. Fantastic. Fantastic.
someday I'll find out why great choir music is so mysteriously enchanting. Or maybe not, maybe I'll leave it magic. Beautiful as always :)
@@hellogoodbye637 Great explanation.
(I've wondered about this myself)
Voces8 sound + Jim Clements arrangements = magic
Glorious .. Glorious
Thank you .. what my soul needed to hear today
and
every day
Thank you for your pureness
2:15 very nice Chris. Bring that Baritone out!!!
Beautifully done! Also, 3 of the prettiest female nightingales, I think.
Sublime. Full of heart and art.

Love it soooo much !! Great
Simply dreamy.
It makes me cry, don’t know why? Lovely

Marvelous!
The song i grew up...i love it... You lot are amazing. Balanced harmonies
Siete meravigliosi, date grandi emozioni!
A memory of "The Singers Unlimited": Absolutely beautiful!
Just one word.....Brilliant
Only those of us who have sang a cappella in a mixed chorus know how challenging this is! Lovely!
Two years ago I found this because of Good Omens and still love to come back to it. Beautiful a cappella music. 🎶❤️
One of my favorite songs done beautifully, as always..Thank you
Great chord on that last goodnight!!!!
Always loved this song, and play the piano version. I’ve never heard it sung like this.
Enchanting. Brought a tear or two - that last harmony was just too unspeakably beautiful. Thank you.
You guys are incredible.

Glad you like it, Tom!
www.singers.com/group/Voces8/ - this has many of Jim's arrangements, so stay tuned for this one (hopefully)
How does this work as SSAATTBB? Is there a male alto?

Superb arrangement and performance...as usual.
I've never heard the introductory verse to this song! Beautiful performance!
Gorgious!!!!! Voices of angels.
Rough day - thanks for helping!
beyond believe such gorgeous harmony!!!!
This is so beautiful!!!
absolutely perfect blending of voices. Divine!
Because it's a studio recording that's been edited. It's not live.

V ery good. From 🇵🇹🇵🇹
Wonderful arrangement indeed
Great as always and I especially liked how the camera wove through you guys giving a unique visual perspective.
Uhhhhhhhhhhh... this is right up there with the version sang by Manhattan Transfer.... so amazing!!!!
MT's is 10, this is a 9.8 only because its too slow. It displays their incredible harmony and control.
Right there with MT? This surpasses MT's version in every possible way. Beyond that, you are right, it is amazing. Stunningly rich and beautiful.
After listening to both versions multiple times, the endings are completely different, and that’s what does it for me.
Gorgeous.
LOVE VOCES8!! :). Beautiful song...thank you so much for sharing! :) xo
j'adore !!
Very well done! The harmonies in this song are very difficult to pull off.
Lovely!
Bravissimo!
1:13 the altos😍😍😍

Exquisite!
2:32 I don't know what's his name, but his timber voice is very unique and beautiful
That would be Blake.
Very nice
Beautiful as always 😌
Spit-on with those difficult modulations and ‘jazz’ chords!
Stunning! Thank you
This is so lovely. Thanks for this.
I am watching this and crying after the Good Omens season 2 finale.
Belíssima!
Beautifully done. Right up there with "Singers Unlimited"
,👏👏👏👏👏
Bravo
So how many voices are we hearing here? I can hear two sopranos and one bass. And definitely one alto.
This arrangement is written in eight voice parts 👍
@@VOCES8 I felt it was quite impressive.

Lauren Bennett yes yes yes

Very nice harmony. A bit odd to see you singing with an audiotrack that doesn’t seem to be taken from that place, I take it’s a studio recording?
Yeah I'd much prefer a video of them singing in the studio over this 360 degree camera panning stuff.
