      Yeah I love this channel and sports car racing. I think sports car racing is the ultimate in car culture motorsport, it’s cool to see cars that look almost the same as the cars you can go out and buy (well, if you have $100k on you). And I’m excited for 2023 and especially 2024; imagine a Le Mans being contested by Toyota, Ferrari, Peugeot, Cadillac, Porsche, Glickenhaus, as well as BMW, Alpine, Lamborghini, Isotta Fraschini, maybe even throw Vanwall in there (basically brands rising from the dead to compete). Maybe even Acura will find their way over. It would be exciting as hell.

    The GT class qualifier should look a lot like an actual race. 32 GT cars!! Oh yeah. Better get the order in early for extra caffeinated coffee. 24 hours of GT3 is just a warm up for what looks like an incredible year of sportscar racing. Always happy to hear about customer cars.
    And what more can you say about Matt Campbell? His 2019 pass for victory at Bathurst put him in my favorites column. He may not be driving with Jam Jam but he will clearly put on a great show in IMSA.

    I think regarding the LMP3 long-term plans, a big reason why the VP Racing sprint series is here will be to transition teams and faculties over from IWSC to it. The past two years have given a lot of information to IMSA for how viable it is to have a "filler" class when attendance is stronger now. GTP may well be a huge boon for sportscar racing in the US. Excited for Daytona next month, lots of questions will be answered there.

    Do we know what's happening with the TCR cars? Could the VP series be the step down like the GT4/tcr series from previous series, and tcr is going away? It would make sense, I've run gt4/lmp3 races many times and they are a great fit. I don't know as it signals the end of P3 in the big show, although I wouldn't be UNhappy with their departure, they have seemed to be more of an AM class than the GTD's over the past few years and having them be the lead category in a separate series might do all of them some good.

      The Michelin Pilot Challenge is staying as is with the GT4/TCR cars! One of the key differences between Michelin Pilot and the VP Racing Fuels Challenge will be the race length. MPC will remain multi hour races with driver changes, VPSC are going to be 45 min sprint races!

    If this is the Golden Age of sports car racing, what was the SCCA CanAm series? What about the IMSA Prototypes like the Porsche 956/962, the Jaguars, the Nissans and the Toyotas? I'll believe this new Golden Age when I see it. IMSA still runs too many classes of cars. If they want to have races for minor class cars and/or amateur drivers, run them as separate races. Let's have a serious Prototype class for the "heavy metal."

    The buzz and hype of new categories is always great but any fan who has been around more than a couple years understands it's only downhill from here. The manufacturer teams are run by boardroom bean counters full of custom 15K suits and egos to match. The first rule change or questionable BOP decision that someone don't like will cause them to pull out completely. So cutting out LMP3 is short sighted at best, and likely never return to the same level if it is axed. If u watched IMSA in the mid 10s u remember the GTLM hype train, w new cars and tons of manufacturers joining the series. A top class sports car series the way it should be, sadly within 5 or 6 years there's 2 teams and 3 cars in the field. Let's hope the GTP formula is sustainable and teams race for trophys and pride instead counting pennys spent on marketing.

    • @offintheesses
      @offintheesses  Год назад

      Yes they do tend to be cycles in sportscar racing where years of healthy grids are followed up by years that may not be so healthy. Us as fans don’t really have any say in who stays and who goes manufacturer wise. What we can do though is make sure we tune in or show up to the races so that manufacturers, sponsors etc can see enough of a return on investment to continue in the sport. Many things led to the demise of GTLM/GTE and hopefully the sanctioning bodies learned from that and made the regulations for the LMDh cars something that is sustainable financially
