Unfortunately Will Power had to withdraw from this years Rolex due to health issues in his family. Our thoughts are with you Will and hope you will be able to compete next year! racer.com/2023/01/17/power-withdraws-from-rolex-24-at-daytona/
On the point about LMH, Glickenhaus wouldn't even be able to compete due to the IMSA regulations on how many cars a company needs to sell to be able to compete in IMSA which I think should get removed especially if they race in WEC already
I really do wonder if the 61st entry was set to be the garage 56 entry for this year but had to back out. Regarding a garage 56 type entry at the Rolex, I don't know how I feel about it. It is neat but it hasn't been used that much at Le Mans that often in recent years. I think I'd just prefer to have the extra car on the grid especially considering the space contraints they already have at Daytona!
I would open that spot to any car that wants to race from other categories as along as is slower or at most, to be around the same pace of the GTP car.
So I wasn't aware of the previous iteration of GTP, but knowing that it was group C, I now ENTIRELY get the branding and hype around the return of GTP and from what we have seen this far, it may well measure up....
Hell yeah, guys. Great video and production value here. Just found this channel and subbed within the first 10 seconds of the video. Will you guys by any chance be doing a race review after the race?
Glad you enjoyed our video! On my side, definitely! There will be race reviews for both the WEC and IMSA. I’ll mainly cover Hypercar and GTP, but I will get into the other classes too. I bet Off In The Esses is working on something similar as well.
10:25 IDK, it just seems to me that Michael Andretti wants to buy out WTR but doesn't want to rock the boat too much by folding WTR into the Andretti Autosport brand. Since the plan is that WTR will move into the Andretti Autosport HQ once complete
LMDh and LMH compete in the same class together ("GTP" in IMSA and "Hypercar" in WEC). There are some difference for example the LMDh cars can only choose between four different chassis and all have the same hybrid unit while the LMH regulations are a lot more open but also cost more money. GTD essentially is GT3 with the addition of the Corvette GTE.
Its sad there is not a 911 or 912 entry from Porsche this year. those two cars and the 3 and 4 corvettes are the only ones i keep up with throughout the whole race. with those not being entered im not sure if ill even tune in sadly
There are LMDh cars this year! It will be the first race for them! They are replacing the older DPi cars. If you’re new to the series then there’s a playlist on my channel with most of the basics that you need to know!
i feel so bad for that porsche and bmw team, bmw where the slowest and porsche couldnt even catch up to the acuras. so much build up for the rolex 24 for them. i hope they do good for the rest of the races
I think Porsche looked a lot better than BMW did! At least they were able to lead some laps it was mostly some failures as well as driver errors that kept them out of contention! I think this was a better start than most would have predicted and I think we'll see many of the gremlins ironed out as the season rolls on!
@@offintheesses haha i remember sitting in the infield by the budweiser restaurant for 3 hours seeing if the porsche could catch up to the acuras on the big tv screen lol
Corvette team is way behind the 8 ball. Plenty of time to get things up to speed. Why didn’t they use the caddy DOHC engine without the flat plane crank hype. Vibration issues would not cause such a delay.
Qualifying is only on IMSA.tv. I believe it was originally scheduled to go on Peacock when there was going to be the qualifying race but it seems that has changed since the switch to conventional qualifying this year
Ganassi is running Cadillac LMDh cars in both IMSA and the WEC. The LMDh cars are eligible to run in the WEC and IMSA top classes (called Hypercar in WEC and GTP in IMSA) and they are bringing their one full season WEC car over to race at Daytona with their one full season IMSA entry. The third Cadillac is run by Action Express Racing and will run the full season in IMSA.
@@offintheesses Okay that clears it up. Is the caddy the only LMDH or AKA GTP car entered full time in WEC. I guess I am asking is Gannasi going have to modity his WEC car to adhere to Imsa and then modify it again once WEC starts to adhere to WEC specs?
Dang that kind of stinks, I was really hoping to see lmdh and lmh running against each other. I'm much more interested in the lmh entries as they feel like a full blown return to that group C era prototype generation, with all sorts of manufacturers making their own unique prototype. The lmdh while still cool, just kinda feels like a dpi 2.0 or an lmp 2.5.. as all the cars have to be based off an already existing chasis like dallara or oreca. They just lack that creativity and feel like just bmw bodywork stamped on an already existing chasis. I just think these series would really shine if they all raced against each other filling out the grid into a high number of top level prototypes of all different makes. If anything 2024 sounds like a massive year with a new mustang gt3, corvette gt3, possibly new prototypes, and possibly a combined grid.
Important to remember that the only common part on the LMDh is the hybrid system, everything else is different on each car (basically). The car is of course built off of one of four chassis but each one of these cars is extremely unique! I would encourage you to check out a series that the RACER channel is doing right now. Marshall Pruett has been going over in great detail the differences between the cars both design wise and under the hood. Hypercar is a fine formula but if it weren't for the introduction of lmdh would we even be seeing Ferrari and Peugeot etc building LMH cars? I think there's a good chance it may have just remained how it has been the past few years in LMH with Toyota leading a very small class. I definitely agree that the prospect of LMH and LMDh racing is exciting and can't wait to see the racing when some of the LMH cars come over!
@@offintheesses oh good, thanks for the info dude. I was worried when they said they had to pic from the 4 chasis, that they were talking everything except bodywork ie.
