Disaster Area Quick Tips 1 - Chase Bliss Audio

- Welcome to the first of our Quick Tips series! In this installment, we show you how to get your Chase Bliss Audio pedals working with the Disaster Area DMC Gen3 series.
1. Connect your DMC Gen3 MultiJack to your Chase Bliss pedal using the appropriate cable.
2. Check the DIP switches inside the DMC to ensure that they are all set to ON (DMC-3XL / DMC-4 / DMC-6 & 8 RED JACK) or ON-ON-ON-OFF (DMC-6 & 8 WHITE OR BLUE JACK).
3. Enter Setup on your DMC by holding L&R or A&B after startup.
4. Set up one or more devices as "CBA" / Chase Bliss.
5. Set the JACK or MJ1 / MJ2 / MJ3 menu to "MIDI."
6. Hold MODE or SAVE to save and exit setup.
7. Power on your Chase Bliss pedal while holding both of its footswitches.
8. Navigate to Scrolling or Device mode on your DMC Gen3 and tap L / R or A / B to send program changes to your CBA pedal. Its center LED should change colours to indiate it is now set to the correct MIDI channel.

about time we got someone to do some demo on the gen3. ur the best.
***** cool. i just bought the strymon timeline, bigsky, and an Selah Scarlett Love overdrive V3 which all can connect to midi and was wondering if this DMC-4 Gen3 can work with all three so ive been searching youtube for them gen3 demo but there really isnt for gen3.
also a demo on the tap tempo with the strymon timeline would be good.
Could you please show a video of how to pedals that support MIDI by external controllers (i.e. MIDI in on the DMC)?
Is there a way to run the DMC-4 Gen3 in something like a "Four button mode" with one Chase Bliss pedal? So the four buttons would each be a preset. Perhaps a hold on two of the buttons would bank up/down?

Similar to the gen2, do you still save a preset on the Chase Bliss by holding both footswitches on the CB and then scrolling to the preset number you want on the DMC-4?
Can I use a DMC-4 Gen 3 to acesss "runaway mode" (holding tap tempo) on CBA pedals?! Mine only lets me tap tempo in!

You'll be able to access up to 122 presets on the Tonal Recall - is that enough for you? BTW little tip, you can only save presets 1 and 2 (the red and green ones) using the pedal itself. The rest you have to save with the MIDI controller.
Can you make a setup video for the DMC 3XL 3rd Gen as well, Im getting a tonal recall and I want to see how this differs and what option are available if thats cool!

I'm looking for a video on how to control a CBA Brothers + Timeline; Not setup necessarily but to show how the buttons can change both pedal simultaneously. I just want to see it in action before making the leap and buying one!

I have the CBA Brothers and the DMC-3xl. I have it passing midi correctly but I can't seem to get the presets to work. With all of the other CBA pedals you have a tap tempo and a bypass. You hold those to save a preset. With the Bothers you have two bypass buttons. Every time I try to hold them down the channels are getting turned on and off incorrectly just while I attempt to save a preset on the DMC-3xl. Any suggestions?
How is this cable wired? I own all of the parts and would like to make one...
Where do I find a comprehensive run through on how to use these DMC 4 Gen 3 midi controllers? I cannot seem to find one and don’t really know where to start. Just trying to preset clock and settings on Strymon Dig and El Cap. Maybe Eventide H90 by the time of response
Hi can you do a video on configuring using Neunaber Wet Reverb with the DMC 4 ? And also was wondering if DMC 4 can control Line 6 M9, Neunaber Wet, Tonal Recall at the same time ? Because they say can work with 3 pedals right ?

I have a DMC Micro and a Chase Bliss Gravitas. I desperately need a quick tips for it. Also how to set a setting.
It's pretty much this ^^^. Set the DIP switches inside your DMC, configure DevA = CBA, JACK = MIDI, connect with the MJ-CBA cable. Then set the channel on your Gravitas as shown above (hold both buttons at power on, then use the left / right buttons in device mode to send program changes.) You can save any preset from 3-122, but not presets M, 1, or 2.
Will it work to run a chase bliss pedal connected to the midi thru port on another (eventide factor) pedal connected to the dmc? I do not get if it will work or not since you advice on the site to use chase bliss with multijack when running 5-pin midi devices simultaneously. I, however would like to reserve the multijack for tap tempo.
Generally yes, but you'll need a different cable (5P-CBA) and your MIDI device's output jack must have pin 2 tied to ground in order to work. The Eventide stuff should be fine. Cable is here: www.disasterareaamps.com/shop/mj-cable-chase-bliss Be sure to order "5P-CBA."

If I understand well, if I set it up for, say, the Tonal Recall or Warped Vinyl, I won't be able to use it, simultaneously, with the Timeline - from you explanation, the DIP switches will all be set via the multijack, thus disabling the midi connection - or am I wrong here? Is it possible to use both?

I'm sure it's straightforward but do you have any videos/tips with the Selah Scarlett Love v3?
It is pretty straightforward - the Selah will allow you to switch clipping modes and engage / bypass the pedal. Basically you've got about 6 different possible combinations and any of our pedals can control one in General MIDI mode.

Hey Matt! I have a DMC 8 set up with Timeline as device A, Chase Bliss Tonal Recall as device B, Spectre as device C and a Bigsky as device D. All is working as it should and I am able to save presets to my Chase Bliss devices, scoll and turn on and off those pedals through the DMC, but I don't want the Tonal Recall and Spectre to receive timing information from the DMC. I want to set my presets as I want them (timing wise) on the Chase Bliss devices and tap on the Tonal Recall and Spectre for my timing changes. Presently, everything seems to be tied to the DMC timing and tap switch. Both are hooked up through multijacks, the Tonal Recall on the red and the Spectre on the blue. How do I shut down timing info on the multijacks? All DIP's are on the ON position. I looked through the manual and came up with this...
SET 1 CH, 2 CH, or 3CH to the channel you would like to assign to the device (A, B, C) or to 000.
Ex. if you want to use a Tonal Recall as your “C” device, you can set J CH to 00C.
If you set the channel assignment to 000, the MultiJack will send MIDI data on all channels BUT will not send MIDI clock.
Sometimes this is helpful if you want to change presets on a device but you don’t want it to sync to the clock.
But there is not a setting to change things to 000 on the channel. I tried removing the Tonal Recall from the channel "B" assignment, but it stopped receiving everything.

Another question Matt. After making the changes, my DMC-8 now displays HOST on the screen when booting up. I have to go into SETUP mode and back out to get rid of the HOST display. The controller seems to be locked when in HOST and I can't do anything with it.
Matthew Farrow USB does not come up as a menu option.
Thought I updated the firmware, but I tried it again. Used the 102h update for the DMC8. Plugged it up through USB, found the FLASH.BIN file, deleted it, and replaced with the 102h BIN file. Then powered up the DMC with 9VDC, went into the setup menu, backspaced to the FACT menu, but the only options I get in the FACT menu are CFG, PRST, NAME and ALL (and a couple of blank no-name options that I have to scroll through to get to the above mentioned options with names). The directions you provide for the updater say there is a RSET option under the FACT menu, but my controller does not have that. But I do get the countdown as mentioned when using the ALL option, but I do not think that it updates the firmware. Where can you find the firmware version in the DMC? Nothing scrolls across the screen and I do not see anything in the setup menus? A bit frustrated here. This is how I updated the firmware the first time, but obviously it did not take.

i´ve got a problem, perhaps you can help me out.
I´ve got an DMC-4 Gen 3, Chase Bliss Midi Box, a Warped Vinyl (Device A), a Tonal Recall (Device B). It took a whole evening, to hook all up, but now i´m proud that all works fine. The only thing i want to do, is saving presets on bank A for the Warped vinyl, the same on bank B for the TR.
A1 is the live mode, A2 is the right slot, A3 is the left slot. A4, A5, A6..... are the same like A3. How can i store settings from the live mode to A4, A5, A6......????
I saw the tutorial from Paul with the DMC-4 Gen 2 I think and it doesn´t work like that.
When i play in live mode and change for example to A4 (DMC-4 DEvice A off) the DMC sends informations to my WV, so when i enable the DMC for Device A (WV) there is already a Preset similar to A3, like i mentioned above. If i try it like Paul did on his tutorial, it doesn´t, i tried a lot of different things, but i couldn´t manage to store the settings from the live mode to a bank preset.
Can you help me out?

this works :) thanks! But i´ve got two other problems now.
I set the Warped Vinyl as Device A and the TR as Device B, all fine. when i cut the DMc from Power and put it on again, this setting is gone. The dmc sends infos two both devices on the A channel and the b channel is empty and i have to hook this up again. (Tonal recall as Device B)
Second: i´ve stored my presets, power of then power on: result the rpm rate in the warped vinyl is different???

Hey, I'm following this for the DMC 6 and at 3:43 it doesn't work for my pedal. I followed the instruction manual at this point and it's telling me to hold down a and to tap save until the device i set up for CBA is displayed. I'm not sure what that means. It says A 1, BOOB and COOB. More DMC 6 videos please!
Lights don't react when I press A and B. Also, the blue and white multi jacks came with on, on, on, off settings, while the red is all on, on, on. Should the match? If so, the blue and white should be on. on on off, right? I have 3 chase bliss pedals and I want to control them all
ok so now, when i power on cba pedal while holding it down, the lights freeze when i scroll a and b
btw i'm using cables that are trs on both ends. Could that be the issue? i think these worked for my smart clock but I've upgraded to the dmc 6. in the vid ur using ur chase bliss multipack cable

Hi there! Not sure which controller you purchased but none of the DMC lineup can display milliseconds. They can display beats per minute (bpm.) If you need help setting up your system, please email us on support at disasterareadesigns dot com
@@DisasterAreaDesigns That's weird. I order the micro clock and it says you can in the manual. It says you can switch between bpm or Ms, but I can work with bpm.
@@DisasterAreaDesigns Does the smart clock have the ability to read out MS or is it bpm only as well?
This is from the micro clock description on your webpage.
Each tempo preset allows you to specify a tempo in BPM or milliseconds, as well as subdivisions or toggle settings for each of the three outputs.
@@easye9-21 The micro.clock and SMARTClock are not DMC, and they can display the MS or BPM. Email and we can get you set up.
Hi this doesn't work with the Gen2 version of the Dmc-4 right ?
It does work but it's not recommended due to noise issues. One of the big things we changed with the Gen3 was making the MultiJack output work seamlessly with the Chase Bliss pedals!
I mean in terms of saving presets and connecting the pedals to the controller etc, because I tried following your procedure in the video, seems like mine is a bit different, plus I can't find the manual online for Gen2 I mean.
It should work almost the same. Email us through the website and we can make sure you get the manual for your controller.
You did not show how to save from tonal recall to dmc micro. Why is there no video in YT? Kinda frustrated now.
Procedure is exactly the same, change your sound, hold buttons, select preset. On the DMC.micro / Pro you can also change sound, hold buttons, long-hold LEFT button to save to the current location.
Is the process the same for the Gen 2?
Note: I'm also using the midi box.
Yup, pretty much. The setup menu on the DMC is different but the idea is the same. Feel free to email and we can walk you through the process if you need help.
Will a TRS to TRS cable work?
Unfortunately no. You'll need to use the correct cable wiring, which is TS to RS.

The steps are pretty similar, except for the setup on the Meris pedal itself. I'll be happy to cover it in an upcoming video!
Disaster Area Designs oh man! I'd be so grateful. The meris instructions are bare and I'm pretty new to midi. Any quick tips while I'm sitting here scratching my dome?
Follow the same steps on the DMC but select the Meris device instead of Chase Bliss. If you use the "A" device as Mercury 7 that'll be the easiest. Then go into the Meris setup and set the expression port to MIDI, just use the instructions in its manual. That should be all you have to do!
Disaster Area Designs thanks so much. I set it to the b channel since I run a timeline in front of it. I think I have them "speaking" to each other at this point, but saving presets seems to be the challenge. I'll wrestle with it more. Thanks for helping, and on Christmas nonetheless!!
No problem - if you're trying to save different sound settings to a preset on the Mercury 7, just send a program from the DMC using Preset or Device mode, then edit and hold the Alt button on the Meris to save to that location.
