Thanks! This was the motivation I needed to change my 25 year old belt on my Toro 13-38XL, lol. I lowered the deck but didn’t remove it and luckily all of the guard bolts came right out. I bought a $15 belt off of Amazon but hadn’t seen your video yet, otherwise I would’ve gladly bought the one you have in the link. Again, thanks!
Wow! First video that came up in my search. And I see that I don’t need to look any further! One of thee best instructional vids on the Tube. I have the 16.38XL, but I can see it’s the same set up. When I saw those guard covers under there, I had a feeling this job was going to be a nut buster. Also… I’m thrilled to see the belt you are using… same one I just ordered on Amazon for $15-ish. Called a local landmark hardware/repair shop.. they wanted $54 for the OEM. The reviews were encouraging , and If you are using them, then I’m confident I should have no issues. Not looking forward to doing this more than once if I can help it! You are the bomb! Maybe I’ll update after the repair. (I also really appreciated the little tips fit greasing, etc!)
Thank you I am doing some work on mine at the moment which includes changing the bearings and the housings. It was good to see how the belt goes on, thankyou again.
I just sold one of those for $900, very smooth riding machines. I've had about a half a dozen of them in the past that's the most I ever got for 1, it was a 14-38HXL. Clean!
I just watched your video on changing the drive belt and was wondering if you might be able to answer a question for me. I have the 16.38 version of this toro mower. Have had it for maybe 20 years. I'm not too mechanically inclined. Anyway, WHen I'm done mowing I usually type the mower on its side to clean under the deck. The last time I did that, a small metal rod fell out from between the mower deck and the upper body. It is four and a half inches long, and three sixteenths inches in diameter. Would you have any idea what this steel rod is and where it goes? I'd appreciate any info you could supply. Thank you kindly. John
Bit late, but at the end there where he's holding the ZigZag shaped metal bit, you probably need to replace that, or put the cable so it gets leverage.

Decent mower but a little frustrating as far as this procedure, took me a couple hours.
I put the belt on in about a half hour. The screws came right out on the covers. I took the guide off and reinstalled. I never removed the deck
