    MIKE !!! You are a life saver. I have 1979 ford. Felt a little overwhelmed after I broke the carburetor down. Your detailed explanation saved my bacon. My truck has never ran so smooth in the 6 years I have had it. Thank you for posting this.

    Hey Mike,
    A couple of weeeks ago my carb started to flood on my 82 Ford F250 after i installed a fuel pump.
    Any way...long story short, never rebuilt a carb, furthermore, never really looked at one...I watched your videos, followed them, and ended up with a nice, rebuilt carb that runs great!! Thank you, Thank you!!!!

    That bracket @15:05 is for the "WOT" sensor that connects to egr valve which you can see the wot is still attached to the bracket. Hope that helps someone.

    The main design flaw of the YFA is the accelerator pump sits in the bottom of the fuel bowl with engine vacuum on the other side. If you get a hole in the diaphragm the engine will run extremely rich. With a full fuel bowl, it will drain into the intake manifold just sitting there.

    If you have a YF early 50's the gasket mikes sends also fits the yfa. They don't send you the exact gasket that was original, because they save money by not having that orig one, so they send one that has a hole in it and there is a small gasket left like 1/8 so don't be alarmed, it works..

    Rebuilt an early model of the yfa, 6552s on a 1972 CJ5. Wasnt sure whether the larger check ball went in the diaphragm housing or in the body with the check weight under the gasket. There was no hose from housing to carb. Jeep idles and runs fine when level but bucks and stalls on steep incline. Could that be a metering rod or float adjustment?

  • @MrTaxmaniac
    @MrTaxmaniac 11 лет назад

    Will you be getting more metering arm assemblies with the adjusting screw? Mine does not have the screw and I'm not certain how to bend the bracket. Also, when you say large ball in main discharge. Is that the ball over the diaphragm? Thanks.

    I have an 86 2.3 n/a mustang with a yfa feedback system. I want to ditch the computer controlled system. Do you think a yfa from a 300 six would work well on that engine? I also changing the ignition system to a regular distributor with mechanical and vacuum advance.

    I rebuilt mine a while back and just put it on recently. Idle is great and throttle response is amazing but if I hold a steady RPM above 1200 it bogs after 4 or 5 seconds, then comes back and repeats. A different carb (same type) I have works not bad except it bogs when hitting the gas unless the choke is partially engaged. It needs a rebuild though so probably the accel pump is shot. Can you tell me what might be wrong with the rebuilt carb? Checked float level and whatnot, all seems to be fine.

    Did all of those YF carbs come with what I think is called a ‘idle stop solenoid’? I’m not sure if the verbiage is right however my particular carburetor has one. Is not hooked up does it need to be? If it’s not and or removed what problems may occur?

    Can you replace a yfa with a yf?

    • @olblu8746
      @olblu8746 2 года назад

      Sn95roots l replaced a yfa with a yf carb. on a 69 f-100 300 6cyl. But l also replaced the intake manifold and the heat riser to the other side. I had to overhaul the yf as it had sat out on an engine for 20 years in back of my dads property. I liked the yf better , it had less things that could go wrong . A very simple but extremely efficient carb. The whole process took me 2 weeks. But when l started the truck l was extremely surprised by how smooth the engine ran. I was very happy l had decided to replace the yfa with the more simple yf carb. Another great benefit was better gas mileage! It runs great, get better mpg, same power. Although the 300 6 cyl. will never be a gas miser , l'm getter better mpg. So yeah the yfa can be replaced with a yf but you will have to work at making fit correctly to get the best out of it. A good mech. can do if you don't want any headaches. I tackled the project cause l have alot of free time. If you suceed like l did you will never look back . Mikes expertise will help you greatly. Also do what l did before and during disassembly and during the process take lots of pictures from all angles . Several times if not many l had to go back and look up the picture of disassembly cause l forgot where parts would go. Not to worry though the yf is simple , has less parts than most other carbs. The rebuid kid from NAPA cost 18.99 + tax
      God bless.

    Nice effort, but too fast and too much non-visible for the unfamiliar. No separation of parts into groups, screws and parts scattered... Thanks anyway!
