doublewide6 Repairs LLC ...how do I find your Email so I can order the gasket?
doublewide6 Repairs LLC As many years as I have been doing mowers, I could use one of those also. I wish they made them big enough to put a snow blower on too.
What seal for GCV190?
My opinion, DO NOT APOLOGIZE for making time for your family. Especially in your situation.I support you for a reason, great content and cuz you love your family and it shows. You keep on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks I appreciate that. There is always room to improve. I feel I spend too much time screwing around in my garage and making videos some times. I'm trying to spend more time just hanging out with the kids.
Great news on your son!! My prayers will stay with you guys. Thanks for all the great vids.
I want to thank you for that fix. I almost sold my lawn mower because of that oil leak. Thanks again!
Excellent news on your son.
I seem to recall seeing this repair done on a pressure washer once. Maybe by you? I remember checking my 17 year old GCV160 after watching that vid and knew what you were going to fix before even watching this. Always great to see the tips and instruction!
Yes, the pressure washer video is mine too. I'm happy you enjoyed both of them. More people seem to have Honda lawnmowers then pressure washers, so I figured I would make the second video.
TY !! I think this 66 yo 4’11” Single woman can do this !! Also, Thanks for listing those 90 degree pliers !! Getting those too. Wish me Luck !!
Nice job and congratulations on the news of your son's progress.
Thank you Jeffrey.
Bruce has a good channel; I've always like his cart too. I've got that same mower...bullet proof except for a few problems common to all of them. Thanks for sharing this fix, Bob.
I do like the Hondas. I like the old aluminum deck mowers, but they are kinda heavy. This mower has a metal deck and it has the mulching plug so it is not in great shape. This mower has a neat transmission where it goes at the speed you walk which is nice, but when the mower is off and you try to move it backwards, you have to pull really hard to get the back wheels to roll.
Yeap, that's one of it's "common" problems. There are small gears, springs and keyway system on those wheels that get gummed up and need to be cleaned about once per season.
I don’t know of a single Honda GCV engine that ships from the factory with that seal. Heard of this fix. Thanks for demonstrating it!
Just to clarify in case anyone else asks, the same problem (and same seal) apply on the GCV190. I just did it today. I did have to fiddle with the governor adjustment a bit more than you did here but maybe mine slipped out of position as I tightened the arm. My governor shaft doesn’t have the flat machined on the end so it’s harder to see movement.
Great job hope to start doing some repairs after I retire so your help is most appreciated.
Pretty frustrating as this was a brand new self propelled mower I bought and used all of about two times last Fall. Put it away this winter with a cover. I took off the cover and now an oil stain on my cottage concrete. Indeed I have a Honda 160 motor and there is oil on the deck and a corresponding oil puddle underneath. Upon finding your video I am confident this is my mowers issue as it is a little wet on the shaft. I guess I will order a seal and get busy. THANK YOU FOR PASSING ALONG YOUR EXCELLENT VIDEO!!!!! Jeff
great info Bob, I had the same mower I picked up last fall. I sold it last week.
Alan,
This mower has an interesting transmission. It is like the toro personal pace. Somehow it figures out how fast you are walking and matches that speed. This is not new Honda technology, but I have never had one here at my shop that worked this way.
thats awesome i have been following bruce for years, i was lucky enough to find an electric lift at a garage sale industrial style.
Thread dental floss or a small wire thru cotter hole to prevent losing it ?
A few snug fit O-Rings work. Don't let shaft slide into engine. In spite of this leak, Honda 216 / 217 are great engines with quality parts.
lol, I looked at the thumbnail saw the lift and thought, cool Bruce put up a new video! Then your intro played and I was confused. Nice video my mower needs this fix thanks for showing it
George,
Bruce has a great channel, I learn many new tricks by watching him. Thanks for commenting. Bob
Glad your son is ok. Thank you for this video
Thanks for the shout out. PM coming your way.
Got it Thanks!
Thanks! I have two Honda engines like this, one is leaking at the governer shaft also. No seal, hmmm
Great video and no need to apologize about good news about your son glad to hear it bro!!!😁
We all know Bruce! Glad your son is doing well🎉
Excellent video !! Thank you. Pretty sure this is my problem.
Congrats on good news. Family comes first !
Great information video as usual Bob. Glad to hear you received good news on your boy.
Thanks Terry. Take Care. Bob
What’s the problem when oil gets pushed out of the air filter? Thank you for the help.
Great video bro!!! Now let me see where my oil leak comes from!!!
Nice repair I just got me a free hrr216 for free all it needed was a new thermowax and a choke isolator gasket
Hey guy, I really enjoy learning from your videos but I wanted to ask about your son that was ill, how's he doing these days?
sweet, I was wondering if there was a seal there or not.... I have a few of these engines that are new and found it hard to believe that any seal was already worn out... but it isn't even there! thanks for the vid
Ezeeee Peeeeze! Glad for the good news from the Dr.
Thanks John!

HUH?????
Watching this. My Honda pressure washer leaks oil too. Trying to think what else would make my pressure washer leak. I replaced the fuel line, installed new dipstick, installed a shutoff valve, installed new oil, installed pump seal. Crack shaft seal is fine. Only leaks during storage
The handsaw on your left at the beginning looks like one built using a Matthias Wander plan, complete with Matthias Green paint.
Nice repair, Bob. My Honda oil leak is at the crankcase breather. Is the element repairable or should I just buy a new one? The gasket was saturated with oil. What causes this? Oh- I just bought one of these lift tables from HF. I, too, was influenced by Bruce P. The only tweek I made was cutting my plywood 36x30 so some room for tools. Thanks.
The exact answer I was looking for. Thanks!
Nice fix Bob . Did you have the throttle set to fast when you set the governor . Love the lift nice bit of kit.
Cheers Pete.
I set the throttle to full throttle. The lift is is pretty nice, and with my back giving me problems it is the way to go for me. It also frees up my table to hold my tool kits.
Nice lift. Like the fix!!
I seen this on tarrel fixes all already.
Great teaching video! The fuel line pinch off pliers didn't seem to work too well though.
Is that Honda a good overall mower?
They will work completely if you clamp them all the way down. The fuel line was a little brittle and stiff, so I did not want to crack it. I found that if I put an old drill chuck key in the end it stops the fuel fine and I don't have to over stress the fuel line.
That's cool, so I'll just use the same. Thanks for the tip.
That's great news. God bless !!
Thanks! Thumbs up!
Glad to hear about the good medical news! 💚💗💜
Thanks Donna, You are like his personal cheerleader. Thanks
very nice job.
is seal can be bought at any Honda dealer $2.62
how about showing how to install crankshaft seal on a honda hr215
What size wrench u used?
Another nice video DW - Thanks. And nice lift-cart. I got mine a week after seeing Bruce's video - it's really handy. If you find a solution on how to bend the handle back a little - please share - I keep pinching my fingers between the handle and the mower :-)
Yes, I know what you mean about the handle. Get in the habit of putting your palm backwards and grab the brake lever from the side you are standing on rather than over the top. I will take a look at it and see if there is an easy solution besides bending the handle.
Thanks great video helped me out
A great tip to know, thank you !
Great video, great tip.
Thanks a lot 👍
nice fix
Thanks. Take Care. I'm out plowing and snowblowing big time today.
One thumb up for the video and 2 for your son.
Thanks Big Thumbs up!
Good video, people who don't like to deal with oil leaks should steer clear away from these Honda engines, have one on a pressure washer have fixed two separate leaks and it has maybe about 30 hours on it,learned my lesson already,no more of them for me,call them oil bleeders.
Can anyone help instruct me how to get the governor shaft tour of the oil pan/tank? It fell all the way in and I can see the shaft right inside the oil dipstick hole. Won't come out. Can the oil tank be opened? Is there a fix. Woof I almost got it fixed and I made a big mistake.
That's funny I watched Bruce also and bought the same table. .have no idea how I worked on small engines without it.. quick question. .how does that heater work for you and does it heat the whole garage or just the area around you.
great video
Doublewide6 Repairs LLC Got a free yard-man was sitting in a storage I guess for a couple years air filter had oil the hole deck was covered in oil exhaust too did an oil change and fresh gas new spark plug looks like a brand new mower but starts and runs for a couple seconds spit oil out the exhaust help me
Didn't work for me. I have a Honda Harmony HRR 216 with the same engine in the video. The problem I have is that the area in which the seal seats on my engine is different that the one in the video. It has sides which slope inward so the seal will not seat properly. If anyone has any ideas how to make this repair under these circumstances, let me know.
The problem is, this issue was never fixed even on their latest "200CC" engines... The price for the 200CC is 800 bucks. I am paying that kinda money full well knowing I will have to do this sooner rather than later? Coupled with the thermalwax debacle and no wonder Honda is getting out of the push mower business. Not good... NOT good...
I have a Craftsman eager 1 and it leaks oil under the deck what could it be??
that little shaft you were taking about not going in...what is it called? and what happens if it goes in ? I pushed it in on accident
You can try to put some grease on the back end of a similar size drill bit and it should stick to the drill bit and pull out.
How does one open the oil tank, the shaft is totally fallen in an can be seen by the dipstick hole
Well Explained
Thanks George, I appreciate the comment. Bob
No worries champ !
I've been searching and was wondering if you have a video of repairing a mower that was run w/o oil but has not seized, person said it starting clanking and gave it to me but I am unfamiliar with small engines.. any video to help with the new problem child?
clanking? thats a connecting rod bearing problem. could be repaired. but would take a lot of effort and you'd need to take apart the engine quite a bit
Are you from western PA?
Excellent
Thanks! I'm happy you enjoyed it.
Mine was doing the same thing. I ended up using RTV on the threads of the oil tube. The actual o- ring was fine. I wish now I had kept my Snapper lawn mower. It was 30 years old but still 10 times better than the Honda I bought. My lawn mower also keeps shutting down for no reason. I replaced the carburetor on it. You can jostle the mower and it picks back up and runs again. I suspect the fuel shut off is bad. There is no reason the mower should be shutting down . Indication is fuel starvation. I have had those fuel shut off valves go bad like that on my snow blower too. I useually never shut the fuel off anyways. Its better to drain the tank than mess with a shut off.
Message 2------------- I have been thinking about your son. All the best.
On Sunday, we hit the 3 year mark. He is doing well, he got to meet the Golden State Warriors basketball team. He got all their autographs and got to meet Steph Curry. There are some perks.
Very cool.
Most of the time they over fill the oil
Very very common thing
Just spent $420 on mine and there’s oil on the deck after a month. Hell with fixing it I’m returning it and going back to much lesser expensive Craftsman’s that have never leaked. Completely unacceptable.
I own a Honda Harmony with the OHV engine which has oil coming out of the breather tube and collecting in the air filter assembly. The oil drips down on to the deck from there. How do I troubleshoot and fix this?
Most likely your oil level is too high. When it's too high, it'll get forced into the breather assembly, and saturate the air filter. Check your oil level and drain some until it's on the acceptable level on the dipstick.
@@davestout844 The same thing happened before I changed the oil but the oil was very low on the dipstick. I've been told it could be a compression issue, valve issue or dirt is blocking something to prevent the oil from draining back into the engine. There is no plate by the breather tube. What do you think now?
Sounds like there is too much pressure inside the engine and the PCV valve isn't doing it's job.
@@davestout844 What does PCV stand for? Where is that valve located? Can this be corrected?
@@brianmott728 PCV stands for positive crankcase ventilation. It's a device that helps keep pressure down inside of the engine. Without one, engines could blow oil seals etc. Look for a rubber hose leading to your carburetor or air cleaner box that isn't your fuel line. That's your PCV hose. Follow it back to the valve assembly itself. The hose or assembly is most likely clogged.
thx for the 411
it looks like Honda would have realized that would leak with out some kind of seal.
Who knows? I guarantee they know it leaks now.
sweet! so, I paid 15 bucks for the entire mower, LOL i doubt seriously that seal from Honda costs .25 cents retail so what I will be doing is cutting my own seal and the can kiss my butt. This vids cool as can be though man, i really had not even looked to see where the oil was coming from yet, I cleaned the carb and it runs great now, first pull and smooth as can be and way quite too! surprisingly so., I was looking for some one that is taking the rear wheels off. the wheel on my right side the drives as i stand to mow on the rear drives fine, the wheel on the left however is Missing some type of gear. the shaft comes out and there is a metal large gear embedded in the wheel but the shaft that the gear on the wheel is supposed to be being run on is gone, there is just a black rubber hose looking piece on the shaft with a C clip holder on the end . I took the wheel off the right side to compare but the part i see on that side is black plastic, the parts I see on-line look to be metal. so I am unsure if the drive gear on the shaft on the left is different from the one the one on the right.
once I get that gear this thing will be like new. bad to the bone. that one wheel drive is working, still drives the whole thing but... I am positive it would be more awesome with the other on there. this is my first rear wheel drive mower. I cannot believe the deal I got on it. LOL 15 buck rear wheel bagger! Thanks for the vid. really helped , not the wheels but the oil spill for sure. LOL mines the exact same as yours.
LOL I just looked that oil seal up on amazon 10.68? LOL i don't thing so. LOL I will cut a seal from side wall of old tire or something before I do that. the whole mower was 15 bucks! :0)
Nice Rolex
get a briggs
There's a reason briggs is going bankrupt they make junk engines...
@@conner5611 most of my stuff is briggs never lost an engine i dont over fill them
Honda is supposed to be the best engine. Hahahaha.
Well, I like the Honda engines. My favorite part is they start easy. Thanks for watching and commenting.
doublewide6 Thank you for sharing your knowledge I appreciate you God bless you and your Family
Thanks Charles. I'm happy you appreciate the video. Bob
have had a honda harmony since 2004 with no problems
