In this video I demo the potential of Amber on base game no DLC/stat boosters being used as one of my early game hard carries.
He has uniquely high STR and is typically overlooked due to his personality/appearance.
Amber has monstrous Strength and Lapis doesn't. This means that Elyosian alpacas are canonically stronger than bears.
Finally giving this man the respect he deserves
Amber's only real "issues" (aside from the fact most people don't like his personality....)
is that he joins right before you lose emblems, and requires you to master and second seal him immediately for him to be good, and some people might want to use those resources on someone else.
But like... all of the early units have that problem to an extent...
wait, how is him joining right before you lose the emblems a downside? Thats actually amazing timing, because he wont need as much investment as a very early recruit unit, but he still gets to inherit skills from useful Emblems like Roy Sigurd Leif Marth before they take off right afterwards. Early Vantage, Hold Out, Canter or Power skills are all super sick to have.
@@ProtoTypeFM Pre-well it was much more of a downside, but now that it exists that downside is practically non-existent. I'd argue he's still really good without the well too though.

Panettes base dex and dex growth is so much better than Ambers that she can reach almost the same hitrate he does WITH his passive. So this point doesnt make that much sense.
Not me actually enjoying Amber's personality, but swapping him between bow knight and halberdier before I knew warrior spam was the way, wrecking his growths. At least he’s doing solid endgame with lance power, lunar brace, Sigurd, and pincer attack. He’s a player phase delete button for sure, I kinda wish I made him a second Panette though because I love using Panette
Same, I got him into Wolf knight so I could "patch" his dex, spd and res.
I mean, he's not doing that bad since he's my Lucina holder, but still, I feel like I wasted a good physical carry. 😑
This is good to know since I was debating doing this for the exact same reasons you listed!
I've been wanting to try out Wolf Knight in general, so I am not sure who to pick for that instead.
Ambers strength gets so high he can one shot a lot of late game enemies with a forged silver greataxe without a crit, it's really funny
I've too found a new liking to smash weapons especially under the right circumstances. They an even be used for Engage purposes like Silver Blade/Greataxe Great Aether for example
Amber and Citrinne are two great examples of how easy it is to patch some non-damage problems for units, particularly speed for these two. Pick your carries by their damage, go for Spd meals, and leverage the dragon or covert instructs when you need them. Speed from emblem/bond rings (so pretty much always 2 or more from this). And Lyn's +SPD skills are incredibly cheap compared to damage alternatives, although this isn't as significant if you're using the well due to SP books (or DLC but DLC makes everyone a carry).
They are cheaper but they also do less. +10 damage on one skill compared to +5 speed on another (speedtaker goes up to 10 but only with per-map feeding, and you cant realistically stack it on all your units). With the well I generally prefer fixing damage over speed, the exception being tome-units, but even then I prefer Anna over Citrinne. She has slow start and will slightly lag behind Citrinnes mag stat, but her speed is way higher, and therefore way easier to fix.
@@ProtoTypeFM Yeah Anna, Pandreo, and Chloe are better magic users than Citrine.
Speed's value drops once you hit doubling thresholds though. Don't like that magic units have low speed caps.

@@ProtoTypeFM I much prefer Citrinne over Anna. Citrinne's speed is perfectly fine as a Mage Knight and the extra money isn't a good reason enough for me to go through with Anna's babying.

@@DarkflameEmperor Sage Anna reaches her speed cap way after the campaign, which is all that matters to me. Sage stunts her speed a bunch, which is why its so great that she naturally has good speed growth and base. With some investment, she can double things that arent Wyrms or Armors, but she wont be so fast that the points are being wasted.
I've been advocating for Amber after my first run. I happened to reclass him to a Griffon Knight early on (just to try it out), and he was doubling (sometimes) and doing more damage than anyone on my team. I just remember being impressed by his base griffon knight promotion stats, but I could be wrong. A warrior build seems great for him though. It's easier to fix speed with speedtaker than bad power.
Also, Amber's personality isn't too, too bad compared to what's available. Most are very one-note characters. Engage just doesn't have a good cast.
Amber's fine but joins at a time when most people are set with a team for chapter 10-11 and then you get a ton of units right after. He just joins weirdly I guess.
Diamant's retainers are kind of weird to be honest.
Amber and Jade join in the strangest way.
Every other ruler outside of Hortensia has them join right away.

Damn, not even his own retainers want to be around Diamant lol. Or perhaps he doesn't like having them hover and tells them to fill their time otherwise, probably not the smartest thing as one of the four most assassinatable people in the world given he's Brodia's crown prince. He seems more practical than that to me, so perhaps in-lore they find excuses to be other places.
Always has been. Halberdier, Warrior, even Wyvern. And of course, the DLC. He has incredible strength growth that he can put to use for one rounding.
People like Pandreo but hate Amber??? HOW?
still, I have the most fun using the characters I like, I just find funny how op Amber is with just little investment.
I find him cute.

So I have a couple of things to add against Amber, but before that I’ll acknowledge that he’s one of the better units in the game for sure, and the comparison to Pannete is fair. I think it could be optimal to run him as a Halbedier for player phase.
Amber has a personal base str of 9, compared to Pannetes 12, however he is also at a lower level. By IL 15 (same as pannetes base) he will have identical str, but slightly less hp and a significant 8 less dex. He’s not better then Pannete, but he is Pannete 2.
I will say that one rounding in these chapters isn’t that impressive, as the early promotion gives your characters a large stat advantage. For example Lapis has 20 str and 16 spd at IL 13, while Amber has 23 str and 12 spd. I’m not saying Lapis is better, but an early game warrior deleting enemies has a lot to do with the class.
I’m sure not as good as Warrior but I’m thinking of running him as a hero mainly because his personal skill is aspiring hero 😝

I need an update of this amber late game I agree there is potential but this is too early enemies are not promoted yet
I can assure you he sweep late game. I promoted him as a wyvern then finally into a halbadier he ohko any unit that don’t have resistance to his weapons. The only thing is that he’s lacking dex wise so he have hard time hitting even with his passive skill, so you need to give him at least hit+15/30 to make him a monster.
@@celrokproduction halberdier amber sounds great combining pincer attack with his absurd strength. It's a shame we can't use his personal with a pincer attack though.

Uninstalling the game and then redownloading the software while holding the L button gives you only the base game. If you have save files with DLC they obv stay but new ones will not get any bonuses besides the update bonuses (steel weapons + engage weapon crystals). Nice alternative instead of deleting all the bonuses

I'm all for Amber supremacy. He literally dominated every single map towards endgame on fixed maddening for me along with Eirika. I couldn't love him more!

Amber is an excellent unit with only one big drawback. That is actually having to use him.

he will always be S tier in my heart. he my first S support in Engage too, i think he's really cute.

Amber has some great supports too. Imagine him potential if you save the DLC maps for him too. *edit give him the Revanche(assuming you level it to 4) and you have a character with insane crit, base damage, and more. His drip looks dope too.
Nice video! Yeah Amber is pretty much on par with Panette strength-wise (a little better even)! I feel like if you think Amber is good then it’s time you recognise what an absolute king Louis is; comparing their stats at Amber’s join level (internal level 10) in the Lance Cav class Louis has 1 less str and spd but 2 more dex and hp, 3 more def, one more res and the same bld. Then comparing them at IL 40 both in warrior Amber has 2 more str and spd than Louis but 6 less hp, 8 less def, 2 less dex.
Now the Dex difference is pretty irrelevant, I feel like they both need accuracy fixing (I know Amber has the +hit passive but that won’t always be active so ends up being a bit inconsistent) but I’d take Louis’s significantly better bulk over Amber’s marginal leads in str and spd any day. Also with basic investment Louis is a giga-hard carry from his join chapter through to chapter 10 at least so the extra experience required comes pretty naturally imo.

Alfred is trash tier for sure. I'm going to make him my alchemist.
I've been messing with the idea of making him my Mage Cannoneer over Bouch since he has a slightly more balanced STR/DEX growth.
I also was gonna try to turn him into a Mage Knight to recreate Dark Knight Sylvain, but the max HP cap screws the entire build over.
Can agree from my own run before buying dlc - solos almost half the game himself. Best thing is you get Leif the same chapter as Amber, who gives you warrior weapon proficiencies in like two bond levels.
Me just sitting here happy with my wolf knight amber. Would only need knife prof if you don't have a second seal for him
i personally think that amber goes absolutely insane on wolf knight and you don’t have to use a second seal to get him on the dog

Sniper Amber is still one of my fav and best classes for him as it sync well with his passive and he has crazy str to hit hard with the bows
I used him as a royal knight with micaiah and corrin in my first run, he overperformed even with a less than optimal setup, if you go all the way into breaking him with warrior he becomes a great damage carry

I just slap speedtaker and some sort of Lance power on him along with Eirika ring and he is off to town! Best unit ever, also love him character too.
I used Amber on Wolf Knight for someone to still hit good strength/growths and he did very well. Res will stay pretty bad on him but it did make him able to tank a mage hit as well.
With the well, a lot of characters are viable.
I'd put him in S Tier, if he didn't have accuracy issues. I've been running him with Hit +20 and his accuracy is still un-reliable.
What about engraving tho?

I found his halberdier crit Ike build to be consistent until endgame. Brave Lance too was insane to the point I didn’t need timerra
On my bros only run including DLC, using only Male Characters, Emblems, Inherits, Engraving and Bond Rings, he's putting in work as a General and is 1 Shotting everything using a Silver Greatlance, and once Sigurd returned to him like a true bro he dives like a boss and has been very fun to use.
People really don’t get how good amber is, I like to keep him paladin before you lose Roy because raise above gives him extra move and at level 10 bond he can have the whole weapon triangle with Roy as a lance pal. And he’s by far the best Roy user early on since he hits just so absurdly hard. He’s basically a less bulky version of panette. He can match her str and that’s just wild. And once Roy leaves then I make him a warrior. He’s honestly fantastic and not enough people see that. He’s got the same base str as merrin. He’s 2 less str then Kagetsu and 3 less then panette. Along with a tied str growth with panette. And they are 5 levels higher then him. Monstrous str.
Edit: also his personal skill is very useful for catching up and surpassing panettes dex lead for hit rates so he doesn’t feel his low dex very much as long as you keep it active. Which isn’t difficult to do

I personally make him a halbider to save bond fragments for other units
Warrior costs 200/300 BF with Leif. (Rank 3)
300 BF isn't too much to ask for an axe user to go with the sword (Alear) and lance (Chloe, typically) user early (Allows all 3 Heroes weapons.) And free bow access for fliers helps too.

So I watched this video, and I thought to myself, okay I could do this with Amber, but surely if I'm planning on crossing into Warrior, I could just use Diamant instead. The result's probably the same, and he'll have a slight SP lead because he starts with Roy on him.
Sure enough, he's actually losing by 1 in DEX and SPD to Warrior Diamant...
What the hell!? Amber has 21 STR and 65% growth as a Warrior!? That's 4 points higher AND an extra 15% growth? There's no way that can be right, can it?
I guess Amber aspires to be Ike's kind of Hero you find in Radiant Dawn, swinging around 2-handed swords with one arm.
I just made him a Warrior bc he looked hot in the outfit.
Or they hate him because he has one of the worst passives in the game. Ambers personal skill is easily the worst of them all. -10 to one of the best stats for +20 to one of the least necessary stats, but also only when he is alone, AKA not surrounded by allies to help him avoid getting attacked. He has -10 avoid, and will get attacked from all 4 sides if he can be. He's trying to die. Bad character. Just use Diamant instead,
Edited because I thought Amber was Diamant's brother, thought there was 3 but turns out he's a retainer. So part of my post didn't fit.
You keep saying -10 AVO matters a lot but it just isn't true. There are a ton of tactics that do not rely on avoid that easily beat maddening and all Power passives gives AVO-10
@@IcedCoffeeGaming Sure all the power passives do it but they offer something of value. The point isn't you can't win without your avoid, if it was then Ike would suck. However there is a high value to avoid, compared to what Ambers passive offers you. There is a slight need for hit on certain magic users that can mostly be ignored, axes would like to get some extra hit but still not worth hard investing in (like having a personal skill for it, at cost of something else) and then most of all Cannoneers need it big time. Amber is a fantastic Cannoneer. He's a useable Ike user if classed as a 4/5 in durability. (So like a Wyvern Rider) but otherwise he's just a basic boring ass unit with a really bad personal skill.
People praised Pannette but passed over Amber...when they literally have the same base strength growth. Like. ????
Also this run I've been using him in Sniper with Lyn and like. if he doesn't oneshot something he doubles it. if he doesn't double it he oneshots it. OR BOTH if his enemy happens to be a mage. his strength is superb (and good strength is what Lyn needs in a good wielder tbh) and his speed is EASILY patched up with a couple of kills. Not to mention that No Distractions and Aspiring Hero have kinda good synergy with each other.
That and he can actually VERY reliably kill literally almost any enemy unit with Astra Storm, which can be progressively harder for other units to do as enemy defence and hp starts creeping up
It's because Panette joins ready to go, has way better dex, so much that she doesnt need his passive, and gets a better one instead. Base strength growth isnt everything.
11/6 Warrior Amber roughly ties with 16/1 Warrior Panette. (Panette base insta reclassed). Both roughly 24 str on fixed mode. They both got 45% str growth, so they should always tie in str as long as they run the same class.
So Panette claim to fame is 100% wrath Lyn engraved Killer axe, I wonder if Amber can replicate that power with Corrin Engraved Killer weapon. The +10% more crit Corrin has over Lyn engrave to compensate Panette 10% crit personal skill and Amber personal skill to offset Corrin Killer weapon bad accuracy.
As a huge benefit Amber has over Panette, innate lance rank, as a wyvern he has A lance for Représailles and Brave lance.

I'll take your word for it -Im interested in trying him now. I tried him twice (well sorta), I was using him, but then he always basically just.. not fell off perse, just.. felt like "eh" to keep using, so he was unfortunately benched. Warrior Amber with -some- investment certainly looks interesting. But Panette can do what he does, with NO real investment. Panette's entire character design is to just be crit machine busted. I will give that Amber more than likely has better hit than her (Panette actually has good Dex growth), but how does Amber's def and res stack up to her? Panette has low def, so im willing to bet Ambers is better. Still, is he a crit machine? So if not, hes still likely worse than Panette. But if hes so strong with STR then it might not matter? Yeah, definitely interested.

I don't like Panette's look but she's useable unlike Amber who is just too annoying to ever use.
His passive is actually a little worse than I originally thought, after engaging (huehue) with some of the comments. There's the fact that Panette can naturally reach about the same hitrate with her dex, but another big difference is that Panette can stand next to supports to further increase her hitrate against dodgy targets. Ambers personal robs him of that ability, because it requires him to always stand alone. If he is S-tier, that just highlights yet again how absolutely bonkers good ma gurlll Panette is.
I thought he was pretty good but his speed can be a real issue and his passive doesn't synergy good with supports so he can never really avoid. I think he can be similar to Panette just throw a braxe axe on him and Roy's hold out
Even without aspiring hero, amber is still very accurate.
Feels like our Alpaca lover got screwed hard by weird (maybe even bad?) game design. I had no idea his strength gets so absurdly high and just putting him on warrior basically gives you a 2nd Panette.
He joins in chapter 8 at the tail end of the fist half of the game, in a chapter where Diamant is supposed to be the big new addition. You also loose the emblems and thus ability to inherit stuff after chapter 10 and the game warns you, so most people by this point probably have a basic core team, which likely wont include the newest recruits. And after Chapter 10 the game throws a bunch of A-S tier units (Ivy, Kagetsu, Zelkov, Hort, Goldmary, Panette, Pandreo, Fogado, Timera, Merrin) and new emblem rings at you and you likely have already forgotten about him. The fact he joins as a Cavalier which is like the most boring/standard class doesn't really help his case, most people probably view him as an Alfred replacement unit.
Definitely want to try Warrior Alpacaman now, looks like fun.
I'm convinced but he's still too annoying to talk to much less have in my party. My first play thru I wouldn't even use cooking if he was the chef that day.

Debatable, but he also has MUCH worse Dex than Panette. So Panette basically has that Dex built in AND better crits.
But being Panette At Home still makes him one of the best units in the game. Also he has a Lance Boon, which means he can use a Brave Lance in Wyvern or Great Knight, among other things (like spears in Hero).
Any Panette build that doesn’t rely on crits is great for him, and he’s not much worse at crits than her.
@@Sines314 yeah damn, at level 30 on Warrior, both instant reclassed, Panette actually has almost 10 more dex than Amber, he basically needs the passive to get to Panettes base hitrate, thats wild.
