    Is it possible to set the scales function to a specific key? If i want to use for example a random voltage into a major scale, but i down want the root note to be a C. Shouldn't there be an option to set a root note? Or am i misunderstanding this function :)

    • @braintree56
      @braintree56  Год назад +1

      That's a really good question! I could go on and on about this topic...
      The short answer: There is not an option on Pam's to do that. You would have to tune your VCO differently. (I.e. Tune your VCO to G if you want it in G major)
      Slightly longer answer: Many modules have this function - especially digital modules and I've found it a little funky. When you think in terms of voltages instead - each semitone is 1/12 of a volt. Quantizing it to a particular scale just means that you are eliminating a particular step. So it makes a lot of sense that in true analog synthesis, you wouldn't be able to set the root, but rather use a precision adder or something to transpose all the voltages. Or just set the root note by tuning the Osc to whatever you want. :)

    • @aleqxndr
      @aleqxndr Год назад +1

      @@braintree56 Thanks a lot! I will try it with the VCO tuning! It should also be possile by by just setting all the notes of a G major scale as a userscale, it should then quantize all notes within the scale

    • @braintree56
      @braintree56  Год назад +1

      There might be a way to do it easily, I'll play around with it and confirm...
      BUT there is certainly the work around of using a user defined scale and programming in the specific notes of whatever key you are looking for.
      I'll look more into in the next couple of days and get back to you. I can't recall if there's a setting or an easier way to do it.

    Thanks for the walkthrough, but I have a question for when you used the cross operation with XOR: I thought logic operations like XOR only output gates? So how did you end up with this irregular triangle wave? I know how the XOR logic operation works but how exactly is it applied here?

    • @braintree56
      @braintree56  Год назад +1

      That's a really good question! Nice catch. So, I realized the same thing after this video and have been trying to wrap my brain around it and been doing some internet sleuthing. Unfortunately, I don't have a definitive answer for tou. It has something to do with Bitwise logic and summing over the binary threshold... I would say it's a bit chaotic, but there seems to be a pattern to it... :)

    Someone here might be able to tell me if it is possible in Pam Pro to use two channels as simple envelopes gated by an external trigger? In that case use two CV ins as inputs for Gate/Trig... the manual does mentionit briefly but it does not make it 100% clear.

    Question- with ratchets, is there a way to trigger ratchets to a percussion voice without all the triggers being ratcheted? So the triggers are normal then occasionally ratchets?

      @braintree56  9 месяцев назад

    • @andrewnancarrow

      That’s a real bummer because ratchets are a dumb function unless they are periodic, and not every step

    • @andrewnancarrow
      @andrewnancarrow 9 месяцев назад

      @@braintree56 I mean if you can’t “pepper in” ratchets only periodically within the trigger sequence then it’s kind of useless. I mean you’d never want ratchets on every single trigger of the sequence.

    • @andrewnancarrow

      This is the goal- from one voice-
      1-2-3333-4/1-2222-3-4444/ 1-2-3333-4444/ 1-2222-3-4444/etc. where the repeated numbers are individual ratcheted steps. Ratchets are best as accents, not every beat.
      Any idea how to maybe do it with cross ops?

    • @braintree56
      @braintree56  9 месяцев назад

      @@andrewnancarrow I'll play around with it. If you are able to do it - I'm doubtful you'll be able to do it that precisely. Perhaps have an LFO make it go in and out. I use a Doepfer Clock Multiplier to make rachets. You might want to look into a solution like that instead.

I want if I press strart or stop on PPW the ELO also start or stop running. Let me know asap pls. Thx!

    • @braintree56
      @braintree56  Год назад

      So, I think you are looking for a "stop" midi message type of thing, which you can't can't do with control voltages. PPW wouldn't be able to stop the ELO if it was running. I don't have the ELO, but if theres a way to set it to 'advance' when it gets a signal rather than have it 'run' when it gets a signal - that would be how you would do it with control voltages. Than way when you stop PPW, the ELO will no longer receive signals and, therefore, stop. Does that make sense? You want the ELO to advance every time PPW gives off a pulse.

      Ha! I've wondered if anyone out there is wondering about that... I got a kick out of this comment.
      Probably more than you want to hear, but I think it deserves a response. My lovely and supportive wife and I live a pretty modest life. We both work in Public Schools (I'm a HS teacher, she's a Social Worker). We don't come from family money or anything.
      Our school salaries go into the household budget and pay the bills. Everythng else is fair game for music gear! So where does that money come from?
      1. I mention how much I appreciate my Patreon Supporters a lot. I couldn't do this without them. I launched a Patreon Channel after a couple of months and it blew up. 100% of that money has been put back into the channel.
      2. I play music locally - A LOT. I've been on the scene for 25+ years. I play Guitar, Keys, and Trombone. 90% of my friends and social network are musicians. When I go out with my buddies - it's usually a paid gig. I have two young kids, I'm getting older, and the pandemic changed a lot of that for me. Playing the bar scene lost some appeal, so I've intentionally let some of my bands fizzle out. I started a Trad Jazz band (The Ragtime Destroyers - ruclips.net/video/JzOY-rUHIro/видео.htmlsi=L8L8l7cPIefQMeam) that has also blown up locally - probably not national level good, but we're the best in town! We make an absolute killing busking in the summertime and play regular Swing Dances. I also play one or two monthly solo gigs playing guitar and singing. I get occaisional gigs where I'm asked to sub on Guitar. Summertime is busy with festivals, etc. 100% of that money goes back into the channel.
      3. Lastly, I've sold off a lot of my PA/Guitar gear from my Bar Band days. Pretty much anything non-sentimental and non-essential is gone...
      I'm still completely humbled by the support I've received and positive comments (Like this one!) that I get... It's been very motivating to continue putting effort into the channel. I am very lucky to have a steady unionized day job that I can count on - so that I can put effort into music and gaining funds for these projects when needed. I've only had this channel a year and it's unbelievable to me that it's grown so much.
      So to answer your question - I'm doing amazing! :)
      Thanks for subscribing and reaching out! Hope to hear from you again soon!

      @@braintree56Nice story. Definitely worth a video.
      If it helps with some more motivation… your long format deep dives are fire. I’ve played the guitar for years and had messed around with DAWs before. But I already spend too much time in front of the computer for work, so multi-track synths got me back into this 3-r years ago. The OP-Z was the nice do it all synth I could take with me everywhere…
      After that I toyed with the idea of a Moog. I loved the concept of the Subharmonicon and it was my first semi-modular. I’m loving it. Your tutorials about it helped A LOT. And now, the rabbit hole started… I see how much more I could do with more patching options, so I’ve added a Mother and I’m following your playlist, I’m thinking of starting a small effects rack to put alongside it…
      Also perfect timing. I saw you started the new series about expanding the Moog studio. That was seriously perfect timing. Haha.
      Since we’re at it, I’m thinking of adding a Pam’s to use as lfo/utilities, a 3xMIA, a Beads and an FX Aid. Do you think that’d be a good pairing? I’ll def not get all at once. I like to deep dive into things slowly before adding more.
      I’ll def contribute bit on Patreon. Great job with these videos and keep them coming. Cheers
