The masses have been brainwashed into thinking that fastfood is cheaper. It's insane that people think that healthy food is expensive. Unless you live in a food desert there is no excuse
Grocery shopping and meal planning is definitely a skill! I grew up in a family that ate out almost every day, and when I got to be an adult, it was hard for me to learn how to properly grocery shop, cook, read recipes, plan. It seems so easy to many people if you grew up in a family where someone cooked regularly, but it took me a while to understand and get efficient.
It's funny how people say that they have no time to make food. That's 100% not true. They just don't want to eat "poor people" food. Or they want to eat out to make themselves feel better about their lives. Ham and cheese sandwich takes 30 seconds to make and pack.
no but it's so true. It took me a lot of trial and error to realize I am not a CC person! I have one credit card that I only use if I have the cash to pay off immediately.
@@yessicajessicaa1400 you can do it my friend! Try to cook a large meal maybe on Sunday and try to split it up for a few days. Food can easily add up!!!
When I was in college I fed myself on $20-30/week. I ate rice, beans, frozen veggies, oatmeal with raisins, Folgers coffee. I could afford to eat out maybe once per month. I don’t understand how people can spend so much on fast food and tell themselves they don’t have TIME to save the money that they’re bleeding by spending on fast food. Saving that money is SOOOO worth the time.
My brother cooked rice and beans all through college then ate free food from the Krishna house on Sun and their holidays cause our mom couldn’t afford to get the meal plan. Poor boy got SKINNY!!! But came out of college with barely any student loan.
A lot of folks just plain refuse to learn how to cook the most basic meals. Plus fast food is addictive. Some of the best looking people I’ve met had their figures destroyed by fast food alone.
I use a Moka Pot. While not necessarily a true espresso, it’s quite good, and there’s no parts to really fail. And burr grinders are available for under $50.
@@Lauren_C Ill throw my hat in the ring on the moka pot hahaha. I occasionally get a craving for an espresso type drink and it seems like the most economical option. No way im spending the $$ on an espresso maker that makes coffee shop quality espresso.
@@danielh4995 If people cant even make coffee at their house I very much doubt they will be making espresso. Even w/ good equipment it is not easy, especially 1/2 asleep. Moka pot is a solid option, but most of these people just need a $20 Mr. Coffee and a blade grinder to see if they can handle brewing their own 😂
I think it would be helpful if you broke down the participants spending similar to the circle graph you put on the screen for the audience. Then if they say "I don't spend a lot on ______" you can show them their allocation (i.e., you spent 45% on eating out, 50% on rent, 5% on misc) or something of that nature. I just think there's a common theme of responses of "I need ____because (fill in the blank)" When you break down their current spending allocation compared to the advice for spending allocation maybe they will be able to see what needs to be changed more clearly.
Yes and totals of just how much a month they're spending on coffee, eating out etc. It's easy to not really take in the reality of the spending when it's just ten dollars here or there and people justify it as a want. But when you say you spend 400 dollars on eating out, coffee 200 dollars etc people realise how it adds up 😊
The chase app actually gives breakdowns for all of this and shows dollar values too. Nothing will make you feel shitty like seeing you spent $600 in a month at restaurants.
I would love an official Financial Audit app, but it must come with audible alerts every time I spend outside my budget. "Nooo, why are you doing this?" "Stop! Stop spending money on BS!" 😍

Thank you for making this video. I'm almost 21 in undergrad with very similar spending habits to this guy. I've been buying coffee or food almost every day this year and didnt realize how bad of a habit this is. Luckily I found your videos and I'm deciding to take budgetting seriously. Ive already taken out $18,500 in student loans and havent even considered how I'm going to pay them off in the future. Fortunately, I dont have any other debt and I'm glad I saw this video before I end up in his same situation. Thank you
Here is the thing to keep in mind. You are 21, you literally have 44 years before standard retirement. You can easily be a temporarily embarrassed future millionaire if you budget, save, and invest consistently. Every $1 you invest today will be $88 at 65. That means you only need to save $109 a month from now until you are 65 to be a millionaire at 65. Even sooner if you can get that up to 300, 400, 500 dollars a month. You are at your prime savings years. Just keep that in mind when making financial decisions.
I’d love to see one of these episodes with someone with their life together and listen to Caleb and them discussing how they did it and what their decision making process was.

I highly recommend buying a lot of frozen foods and an air fryer to anyone who struggles with buying lots of takeout. It is the same thing most restaurants do- you can even buy restaurant branded frozen foods- and is cheaper. Not the most nutritious, but if you are already just eating fast food, you'll save money for the same thing.
I'm not even joking here, when I worked at mcdonald's, there are families that go there 2 to 3x a day. One child didn't know what pineapple was. Nobody can tell me eating mcdonald's 2 to 3 times a day is cheaper than buying food and cooking it.
I'm relatively new the the channel, but I think it would be awesome to have some of the people you've spoken with come back after 6-12 months and see how they're doing financially. Would be an interesting way to see if they've implemented your suggestions into their routines or if they got the promotions/pay bumps they spoke about during their financial interrogation.
It's hard to sit down and look at your finances and get real with yourself. I was basically running on empty at the end of each month. "you're not a credit card person" must be the best advice anyone can give to people struggling financially. it's not telling them right away to stop everything because it will definitely just rebound and make it worse (just like in fast diets), it's telling them that you can spend money but use other ways to do it like debit, budget wallet etc., until they get a grasp on how to spend carefully.
"It's going to take some time to change my spending" aka "diet starts monday". Trader Joe’s has a coffee grinder in store too. You can pick out your can of beans, grind them all up right back into your container, and for one person it should last well over a week.
It’s amazing how many people you interview don’t know how much they make exactly. I check my pay stubs every week and know how much I make every month.
Just a note to anyone who may be interested in making espresso drinks at home. There are, from what I believe, two options for machines. The breville he talks about in the video and the Gaggia Classic Pro. The former comes with a grinder built in which is fine and the latter is just a machine where you need to buy your own grinder. I have the Gaggia Classic Pro and have done some small modifications to make it perform better. I say get the breville if you just want espresso and don't care beyond that, but get the Gaggia if you want to grow in the hobby as it allows for more control. Just make sure to get a good grinder that can grind fine enough for espresso, it can either be electric or a hand grinder. There are plenty of youtube videos to help you on an espresso journey or to just inform yourself.

These videos and your channel have been so helpful to me. I am in my late thirties and was great at budgeting and staying out of debt through my twenties but was also making very little money and wasn’t putting anything towards retirement or investments. As my income got over six figures my spending got more and more out of control, and at the same time I was turning down opportunities to work and make more than I already was. It was so easy to lie to myself that because I have a lot coming in I don’t need to think about where it’s all going. I'm a water resources EIT who interacts with city planners pretty regularly. The ROI on a graduate degree seems pretty minimal. Unless you're doing research (which is not the most lucrative thing to do in the planning industry) a bachelor's degree will do. All these finial audits are the real world result of not teaching home economics in school anymore. A generation of people who don't know basic life skills, like how to cook their own food or how a credit card works.

I work as an entry-level Planner and make a bit over $40k - the jobs this guy is thinking of are either hypercompetitive in a large city or mid-level experience
Lmao what I make more than that as a barista
The “Daddy” transaction had me in tears I was not expecting that 😂
It amazes me that not one people that has been on this show understands that they can grocery shop and avoid eating out when they are poor
The masses have been brainwashed into thinking that fastfood is cheaper. It's insane that people think that healthy food is expensive. Unless you live in a food desert there is no excuse
I would love to see a video of Caleb taking these people on a grocery shopping trip.
And slap them on the wrist every time they get out their credit card for unnecessary take-out lol
Caleb is fat, i really dont think he knows what hes talking about with these groceries.
It's funny how people say that they have no time to make food. That's 100% not true.
They just don't want to eat "poor people" food. Or they want to eat out to make themselves feel better about their lives.
Ham and cheese sandwich takes 30 seconds to make and pack.
@@rjmari How much time do they spend ordering and picking up the food? They can spend that time cooking, save a bundle, and have better health.

I don't think these people even realize that there is a wrong way to use them.

Better food too!
Also, if ya gonna eat fast food just buy frozen chips and other shit. Still shit food however 1/4 of the cost.
And to think your tax dollars are going to be used to bail out yhe kids who chose to eat out everyday rather than buckle down like you did. 😂😮
Caleb ruthlessly pushing through the "Daddy" plot made my day!
An at-home espresso machine company should sponsor you 😂 it seems like most people on this show have a problem with buying coffee at a cafe too often
This needs more upvotes👍
Yes and totals of just how much a month they're spending on coffee, eating out etc. It's easy to not really take in the reality of the spending when it's just ten dollars here or there and people justify it as a want. But when you say you spend 400 dollars on eating out, coffee 200 dollars etc people realise how it adds up 😊
This ☝🏽
The chase app actually gives breakdowns for all of this and shows dollar values too. Nothing will make you feel shitty like seeing you spent $600 in a month at restaurants.
all it takes is a few seconds of putting numbers in excel to do this

Ive already taken out $18,500 in student loans and havent even considered how I'm going to pay them off in the future. Fortunately, I dont have any other debt and I'm glad I saw this video before I end up in his same situation. Thank you
Why were you eating out and buying expensive coffees? It’s a spoiled, entitled thing to do. It’s not a wise use of your money.

He did do a video a few months ago on his finances-"My Net Worth Revealed-End of 2022" 🙂
He has done one lol
@@laurapatrice1986 He meant financial audit, we need to see the charges on his cards and yell at him for wasteful spending

I wish I could get audited by Caleb! I know it’ll awaken me to pay off these debt and be more serious in how I’m spending. It’s hard holding yourself accountable sometime.
Every time you want to spend imagine Caleb shouting nooo at you and looking disappointed/frustrated lol
Yoooo it's been a day this is a reminder to pay bills save money and don't spend on unneeded thinggggg you got this
I'm a water resources EIT who interacts with city planners pretty regularly. The ROI on a graduate degree seems pretty minimal. Unless you're doing research (which is not the most lucrative thing to do in the planning industry) a bachelor's degree will do. We do a lot of work with guys who are senior planners in major metro areas who only have a B.S. and a couple certifications (likely paid for by their employers). City planning is a laudable and noble profession. Massive respect, but it's pretty pathetically compensated for what it is.
I’ve been binging your episodes for a while and the common sense for folks with good education amazes me ( not this guy per say) but either the nerves or stress of the situation….I am really impressed with your patience - congrats for doing this!!
Bingeing. Per se. 😀
This channel grows every day and you deserve it, keep up the good work. I love financial audit I usually watch each episode twice. They're entertaining and teach you alot about how people justify their spending choices
As I'm working towards closing on a house, this show has kind of lit a fire under me to get my finances straight. I definitely have some debt to work on. I'm glad I found this series via TikTok because it's inspired me to get my accounts organized and start tackling my debt as fast as I can so that I can focus on my mortgage and savings. Thanks, Caleb!
Caleb is actually misunderstanding Edwin’s pay and pay schedule. I perfectly understood Edwin
Yeah me too!
I actually agree 😅
He agreed with this in a earlier comment
If Caleb was calm, level-headed, and not comically derisive, this show likely wouldn’t be so popular.
But somehow he is calmer than he should be. Every time. 🤣
He is an equal mix of empathetic and assertive with people.
I think he should get calmness credit for not beating some of these people with a chair
@@nineteenfortyeight would you beat someone struggling with any other addiction with a chair?
@@Theman26642what addiction are these people suffering? Seriously? As a recovered heroin addict, being dumb with money is not an addiction.
Edwin eats at Bird Bird Biscuit so often, I actually felt compelled to look them up on the Internet to see what their menu looks like.😂
All these finial audits are the real world result of not teaching home economics in school anymore. A generation of people who don't know basic life skills, like how to cook their own food or how a credit card works.
my high school school did have those classes but barely anyone took them seriously. those same people who've chosen not to pay attention now complain years later about how they never had economics classes in school.... haha
i took woodshop instead of home economics. that was my only chance to take it. never saw it available in highschool. but then cooking isnt that hard. my cooking isnt good or bad but its enough to not die from starvation.
also who needs it taught in school when its free on youtube
I told myself I wasn’t going to purchase any Starbucks this year, it’s been 3 months thanks to imagining Caleb side eyeing me in the store 🤣
Genius 😂
At this point, I would totally buy a plane ticket to Austin solely to be audited because I think my financial situation can take it lol. Bring it on Caleb.
Sadly i'm pretty convinced that there won't be a lot of "hey you are doing good" here because it doesn't bring in the views like the shocker cases do. Maybe one day if the channel continues to grow.
Buy the tickets a few months in advance and you’ll really not pay much
this guy answers extremely simple direct questions that 99% of the time require a short direct answer with things like "well this one time when i was 15 i was into leggos, and that led me to snorting eggo waffles twice an hour"
It amazes me how many single people don’t realize that they have the ability to work 2-3 jobs to pay off debt amazes me
