- My EGO Power+ Lawn Mower is only 1 year old and stopped working yesterday, it won't turn on no matter what.
Please make sure you follow the trouble shooting steps in the manual before proceeding with this fix!
EGO 割草机无法启动,一枚回形针简单搞定!
You're the man! My symptoms on my Ego LM2100sp were blades wouldn't turn but had forward motion, green light below the exclamation point would flash once. Although I didn't think my problem was a pinched wire, apparently it was. Your solution worked perfectly. The hardest part was getting the cover off 🙂.
Dude! Edged lawn (using Ego trimmer) all ready to mow and nothing. Multiple RUclips searches - blah, blah, "Check to see if the battery is charged, etc, etc" (No %$it Sherlock). I almost called Ego customer service, tried to find my receipt, and then thought about calling Home Depot...Then I come across your brilliant post! A REAL solution. I followed your instructions and then spent the next half hour laughing at how it worked. Thank you for your insight and easy-to-follow instructions. No self-aggrandizing talk. You simply showed me what to do. Perfect video. I wish you good health!
Thank you, I'm so happy to hear that!
Thanks so much for posting this video. As my warranty had expired - saved me some cash - I was back in business in a few minutes. Very straightforward instructions 👍🏾
I looked up the problem of Ego lawnmowers with the not starting problem and your video came up. I gave it a try today and it fixed the issue! I had to use a paperclip myself since all the wire I had was too thick, but it worked fine. Thank you for the video!
Glad it helped
I can say this worked! Thanks a lot for sharing the video. Saved me countless hours of troubleshooting and $700 for a new replacement mower. Cheers
I just "fixed" mine the same way before I tuned in and saw this! I was thinking to myself that I should have made a quick youtube of what I did, decided to check and see if someone already did so...found yours! Great job sir.
Thanks!
Thank you so much for this very useful and simple fix for a problem that shouldn't have existed in the first place. Our unit is about four years old now, and lately since we moved to a new property I had got into the habit of folding the mower up after use for storing in our garage, thus causing this issue with the 'safety' switch. Anyway thanks once again.
My LM2102SP was working just fine a week ago and then I went to mow my lawn today and it wouldn't start. Self propel worked, lights work, but now motor. Found my way to this video while searching the web and voila - problem solved. THANK YOU for the quick, clear, and easy fix! Hopefully EGO has improved upon this common failure point with their newer mowers!
Thanks for sharing
Yes I hope so too! Just purchased the 2135SP and I keep it folded when not in use. That wire bending at the base of fold has been an issue that I’m sure EGO was aware of & corrected. I’m an optimist. This EGO is the GOAT of lithium powered mowers for sure!!! 👍🏻✌🏻💙
Thank you! This worked and my husband was impressed “I figured it out” tee hee!
You just saved me a lot of money & travel time. This is a huge concern that EGO needs to recognize & rectify ASAP. Thank you for sharing this🙏🏼🤙🏼
Glad it was helpful!
@@chenshisong what gauge wire did you use to make a jumper?
You just saved my life. I was experiencing the exact same issue and called the customer support to ask for a warranty. The repair will take over 4-6 weeks and the CS guy referred a service center for me. however, the service are temporarily closed due to the COVID19. I just decided to fix it by myself. I put a jump wire and everything works like a rock. I don't think there is any safety risk by disable all those redundant handle bar position detectors as long as the 2 step start motor process still work. The most beautiful thing about this solution is: we can easy restore it to unmodified state to not void the warranty. Thank you so much! Hope after the fix, this mower could last forever.
Thanks Yuran for sharing your story, I was worried about warranty/services so I went ahead with fixing this myself, I'm glad the problem was resolved and I agree with you that there shouldn't be really a saftey risk by doing this fix, I love this mower and for sure it will last, cheers!
@@chenshisong thanks again for this awesome Video. Very clean and detail.
how did you know what gauge wire to use as a jump?
@@chan4059 you don't need to worry about the gauge rating. This is a signal wire so any gauge should be fine.
@@0xbotyoyo thank you! Now I need to find a wire.
Thanks a million for this video!!! This was so easy. My machine has hardly been used and just stopped working. I took the top apart and checked the switch and compression springs as per another video. All good. Still didn't work. Came across your video and thought I would give it a try. Had a nice paper clip that I cut and stripped the plastic from and gave it a go. Voila!! Worked like a freakin' charm!!!! Warranty is gone on my Ego and I doubt I could even find anywhere to take it anyhow. Being female and not interested in fixing any type of machinery.....I either had to try this myself....or go without a lawn mower. Decided to pull out the tool box and do it myself. Thanks again for the excellent instruction!!
I had exactly the same problem and was able to solve it the same way; I actually did cut the end off of a small paper clip & used it to jump the red & black wires! Thanks for saving me a huge warranty hassle!
I'm very glad to hear the problem is fixed, thanks!
I just saw your video today, and it worked perfectly. Thanks very much. I'm sure you saved me the price of a new lawn mower
Great, I'm glad I could help.
Exactly what I needed! After I followed the tips here, the mower started right up again! THANKS SO MUCH!!!!
You are welcom, so glad it helped! Cheers!
it feels so good when you could fix something you have no knowledge of, and I fixed my mower with just a "paper clip"?!! how cool is that?!!! 😁😁👍👍. Thanks so much buddy , you just saved me 💲💲💸💸 ....
Glad I could help!
This fixed our Ego mower immediately. Thank you!
To answer questions of why this fix works:
The wires we jumped are connected to a safety switch located in the middle of right side rail, that's why we have to pull the rail fully extended and close the green clamps in order to turn on the mower, but due to it's foldable design I believe the wires were pinched and got broken somewhere close to where the rail is folded, we basically bypass this switch by jumping the wires, this seems like a very common problem on many of the EGO mowers, EGO really should come up with a better wiring design for their mowers.
There are still other safety switches working, you still need to unfold the rail and follow the 2-step start process, this switch I bypassed is a bit redundant in my opnion and I don't see it's a great safety risk .
You got the wiring diagram ? How’d you figure this out nice job.
So I did this and the mower itself works, but now my self propel only works on the lowest setting, like even on high, it moves at a crawl, any ideas?
Great fix, just be aware that bypassing a safety switch is 'technically' dangerous. Obviously there are redundancies, but the person making this repair should be aware of the risk.
This fix will indeed bypass the telescoping handle switch, but it does not affect the folding handle, main start switch, or the self propel. The handle must still be in the proper position, and the button/lever must still be actived to start the blade. Self propel function is not affected whatsoever. With all that said, the blade WILL start even if the telescoping handle is in the down position, meaning your feet could be dangerously close to the rear of the mower, not that anyone would mow like that, but thats what the safety prevents. I wouldn't rate this as 100% sketchy, but any of you who want the added safety should look into replacing the switch and or wiring. I would start by removing the side cover at the bottom of the handle and checking for a pinched wire. Start with the cheap fix first before throwing serious money at it.
Thank you so much! I followed your instructions and now my lawnmower starts right up!
Thanks so much for posting this. I had the same problem yesterday and fixed it just like you said in a few minutes and was back up running!
Saved my free mower I got from my father, thanks! I made a 'bypass plug' by cutting off the plug on the handle side and soldering the red and black together. Little more permanent, but not nessesary :)
I'm happy this helped, thanks for sharing your solution.
Thank you so much for posting this and the clear instructions. I know nothing about electronics but fixed my lawn mower in under 10 minutes. All I used is a paper clip and some electrical tape. Yeah! Love EGO but they sure have a design problem in the 21" model. At least there is an easy fix.
Very glad it worked for you!
Thanks a million, red to black had me back and running in no time.
You are welcome!
Thank you so much for posting this! Quick, simple and cheap fix that avoids going through the warranty process. I may have it properly repaired in the winter when I don’t need it, but this will get me through the summer and fall.
Glad it helped
Dude . . . you saved me an hour (or more) of troubleshooting. Thank you, thank you!!!
Thank you so much! I wish I found this video before taking everything else apart.
What tool are you using?
2/25/21: went through a couple of troubleshoots and thought I was screwed with a pinched wire somewhere.
Tried this and my mower, which is 7 months old, fired right up!! THANK YOU!!!
Great Solution. I was having the same problem but I was able to fix it by sliding the handle back hard and then locking it. I will use your solution if the problem persists.
Thank You! This was well presented and it solved the problem I was having in less than 10 minutes. Your time spent making this has definitely helped a whole bunch of people, and you are appreciated!
what gauge jumper wire did you use?
I was on 2+ hrs and getting nowhere fast. Thinking of sending it back under warranty and waiting months was just pissing me off. Found your video and raided the office for a paper clip. I was a little skeptical but tried it anyway. Thank you. I had bypassed that rail switch but I guess the wiring is nicked somewhere else in the rail. Don’t know where, don’t care. Reading some horror stories on this mower now. Might sell and just keep the accessories. Dunno.
Other than this broken wire issue, overall i'm happy with this mower😀
@@chenshisong it’s a great mower beats all the battery operated mowers on the market don’t get rid of it just for that great for any home owner take it from a commercial gardener
It's an easy manufacturing fix for EGO. I hope they will make the necessary change to the design. In the meantime, if this happens to my mower, I'll know how to fix it. Thank you!
Worked for me, and saved me from a new mower. Thanks so much!!
awesome!! thanks! fixed mine PLUS i always wondered how i could mow with the handle in the lower position. perfect!!
No problem 👍 Glad it worked.
Thank you so much for your video and helpful hint. It worked and my mower is up and running again. Much gratitude from Florida 😎
You're welcome!
It worked! Thank you so much for this video! You saved me from a huge headache.
Thank you, for this video. This fixed worked perfectly on my SP2100, which had been in service for only 5 months when the problem arose.
wow, 5 month? anyway I'm happy to hear that my video helped!
Worked for me. Literally, go get a normal paper clip coated in plastic. Bend it into a U. Strip the tips and plug it in. It's actually that easy.
I had the same issue. Your solution worked great.
Glad it worked!
Holy Smoke this worked perfectly (once I jumped the right wires). Thank you Thank you Thank you.
You are welcome, I'm very glad this helped😀
Thank you so much! Was able to fix mine with a paper clip and some tape.
Easy fix. My EGO works again. Thanks!
Glad it helped
Thank you!! Someone else put a similar fix, but didn’t detail the color wires to jump. Fixed it right up. Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
I must admit I thought this trick was a hoax (how could it be that easy??). My mower had the same exact problem, it would go forward but could not get the mower to start. I even bypassed all the safety relays just to see if those were the issue which they were not. After spending an hour+ I went back to this video again. The comments led me to believe this was legit so I tried it. And VOILA! Thank you for the super easy video fix and also to the commenters that made me a believer and saved me from turning my EGO mower into a sledge hammer pile of rubble.
That's great to hear, I'm glad it was helpful.
How do you do the "jump" portion? What are those yellow wires? Are they connected to something externally like a car starter?
It would make it easier if we knew the wire size. Any chances the thing will explode? Inquiring minds would like to know. Thanks great video.
Absolutely fixed my problem! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
You're welcome!
What's the next step after this fix? I've already had to do this one and the mower worked for a while now it's again not starting.
I have the same issue. I will be attempting this fix. Thanks for the video
It worked. Thanks for the video.
Great, glad it worked!
Do a video on how get rid of all the other wires...safety switches etc. I need that one!
Fixed my issue in no time.
I'm glad it worked out 🙂
IT WORKED!!!!!! ❤️. Thank You Sir
Thanks for the video!!!! You just saved me $500!!!
Great to hear! Cheers!
I’ve seen several of these videos and they never say what gage wire to use
Brilliant. It worked. Thank you.
My LM2135SP doesn’t have the same connectors so instead I opened up the black plastic housing for the locking clip, the side with the wires. There is a micro switch that is supposed to detect full handle extension, and I simply removed it and connected the two wires together that used to go to it. I used a crimp barrel, but you could solder with heat shrink or even twist the wires well and secure with tape. In my case I think it wasn’t a pinched wire since I had the issue of unreliable starting right from when I bought the mower, I think the switch was not closing completely due to some mechanical tolerance issues.
is there a video changing a fuse of some sort ? i think my mower stop working after the mower got stuck in grass
this worked perfectly for correcting the same issue I had. Thanks So Much!
I was wondering if this wire breaks from folding it up repetitively....i fold mine up once a year to hang it in the garage but i am wondering if others fold theirs numerous times and this speeds up the process of the wire breaking.....mine is 3 yrs old so far and haven't had this issue BUT if it does happen, now I know...thanks
Most likely, I fold mine everytime after use...
I live in Florida and it gets folded a lot... so I'm guessing WE SHOULDN'T FOLD IT TO STORE IT... 😅🤣🤣
Why does this work? What did I just wire out, and why does my EGO run like a champ again?
Thank you for posting this fix. It worked for me.
The mower is running, which was the important thing, but a side effect occurred for me that another commentator also mentioned. The self-propel only works at the slowest speed which is pretty much useless and cannot be adjusted faster. I'm guessing it has something to do with the third wire in the connector which is no longer connected with this fix. When I get time I'll play with it. Thanks again for the video.
Thanks for sharing the info, hope you can get it fixed easily.
Worked perfect. Thank you!
Glad it helped
This is a life saver. Thanks for sharing this
My EGO 56v runs for about twenty minutes before telling me the battery is fully discharged, and it shuts down! I checked the batteries with a voltmeter. At the time that the mower is indicating a dead battery, the voltage on both batteries is reading 47v.
I believe I have a consistent overheating issue that repeats itself constantly! What are your thoughts?
Did you check the troubleshooting in the manual? maybe the mower deck is clogged with grass.
Where did you get your jumper wire and what gauge? I’ve been to several local electrical supply chains around town and none of them have any…
I just used a paper clip with plastic wrap
Is there a video to reassemble the locking lever on the arm. Im having trouble putting the spring and relay in the right spot
Add me to the list of people with the same problem. Fixed. Now going to go finish the back yard.
Great to hear problem revolved!
how do you tape the wire together, at which parts?
Fixed my machine as well. Thanks
You are welcome, I'm glad it helped
I only have a red and black wire on mine, is that the one i jump?
If this fails and the relays are all good, the fuse isn't blown, then it's the controller board.
on mine the female connector was cut off presumably by mouse and its really hard to to reach, i might attempt to splice the black and red
You have just bypassed at least 2 safety circuits ... maybe some discussion about these would have been wise
What does that mean, jump the wires???
What were the symptoms?? Wouldn’t turn on at all or turn on the flash orange and stop?
You may want to check the troubshooting in the manual.
According the manual: Flashing orange meaning The mower is overloaded.
Action: First remove the battery pack, then check and clean if grass has collected beneath the deck. Slow down your pace when cutting.
Are these Ego mowers still the best even though they have this design flaw?
Yes, I still love it 😄
Mine (self-propelled) became stuck at the slowest speed. I traced it to a broken wire from the speed control to the mower deck. Replaced the wire and it worked properly. It seems Ego wiring is not reliable.
Could you post a pic ?
THanx.
@@billystewart91 unfortunately I did not take any good photos. The repair so far was to add an external wire to jumper the broken red wire. One day I may replace the harness.
Does this fix the issue where the motor will slightly start or pulse, stop, and then the yellow light will blink for 5-10 seconds?
I remember that happened to me once or twice in the past, not sure if it's due to battery too hot or blade clogged with grass, I made sure no grass clippings jamming the blade and waited a few minutes it started working again. You can also check trouble shooting secton in the user manual and see if there is any expalanation or solution for this.
I just bought one of these lawnmowers hasn't been used yet. what kind of paperclip was that?
The paper clip I used was one with the plastic wrap. but you don't need it for a brand new lawnmower.
If anyone sees this now and is wondering you can just wrap a regular old paperclip with electrical tape and leave the ends exposed enough to fit.
Mine is not starting and has a flashing orange and green light when I pull the handle. Did you have a similar issue? Thanks!
it could be overloaded or overheated, you can check troubleshooting in the manual
I have an issue when I pull back on the start bar, the engine starts for half a second and then dies out. I tried your fix and jumped the black and red but it still does the same thing. Does anyone know if there is another fix for this issue? I feel that has something to do with the motor or components attached. Thanks
Did you check following according to the user manual?
- The battery pack is depleted.
◾ Mower is in overload condition.
◾ Mower deck is clogged with grass
and debris.
◾ The battery or mower circuitry is too hot. (The power indicator on the mower will
illuminate orange for 10 seconds.)
◾ The side rail is retracted a little by the
pushing force applying on the handle.
Mine does same thing. Power comes on for ½ sec, power light flashes orange. Manual says it's too hot but that's just how hot it is in Florida. I can't help the weather. I put the battery in the refrigerator and the mower inside in the A/C. I'll try it again at night.
@@chenshisong Thanks for the information. I extended the rails and locked them back and it started up. I assume that over the years, it was slowly being pushed in? Who knows?
I have same issue. You figure it out?
@@christopherbarrett5627 My mower has been in the shop for a month (covered/5yr warranty) for the overheat light coming on and shutting down the motor. I'll let you know what they did to repair it when I get it back.
Bypassing the overload?
Work perfectly, thanks..! Would it last tho ?
yes it last, mine is still working well, I fixed it last year
Started right up, using a paper clip. Stopped working soon as cover went back on. 🤦♂️☹️
EGO 21 inches
And I have the new ones 7.5 amp battery 🔋
I never bag or having issues not cut or stop the mower:)
but I have couple problems :(
1. The mower is too lite :(
2. the mower is too small :(
3. A problem with the batteries it freezes or won’t charge and one last that long with 7.5 A only 5000 ft.² yards you can cut:(
4. And I have fescue grass I cut like 4.5 inches :) and when I cut the grass front wheels Digs grass in and i’m on second day that grass raise up and you can see the stripes tall :(
5. The mower it’s sow light one pass can float on top of the grass second pass can go down with the same settings you can see the difference :(
6. The mower is so tiny I have 1600 square-foot yard taking me one hour and a half to finish with one pass if I’m doing double pass takes over two hours :( and you have to do a double pass because of those stripes :( because of the tiny wheels digs that grass in :( oh and it doesn’t have an enough suction to suck the grass back out with the blades :(
7. Not enough RPMs or not enough vacuum to lift the grass up from the ground. :(
8. The bottoms for self propel the end of the cutting your yard you have hands A Ssort they’re too tiny and you have to squeeze the hands too tight :(

Thank you!!!!
Good stuff!
Worked for me :-) Thanks so much
You are welcome.
Saved me. Thank you for this.
I'm very glad it helped!
This worked! Thank you!
Great! Glad it helped!
I fixed thanks!
Glad it worked
Are the wheels still powered? And, why does this work? Why doesn’t Ego just wire them this way?
My mower is the "push" model not the self-propelled one, cannot answer your first question, but I believe wheels are powered in different circuit so this should not affect that.
The wires jumped are connected to a safety switch located in the middle of right side rail, it's a saftey feature to make sure you pull the rail fully extended and close the green clamps before you start the mower, but due to it's foldable design I think the wires were pinched and broken somewhere close to where the rail is folded, jumping the wires is to bypass that switch so that the mower can get the power to start.
I have the Model SP2100 (self-propelled). It stopped starting, but the self-propulsion system was still working. I applied the jumper wire technique described in the video and got the mower (blade) to start again. The self-propulsion system still works as before, including both the start/stop lever and the throttle/pace lever.
Question for anyone with the mower..I’m considering buying one... whats your advice?
get it...you won't regret it
I've had mine 3 years and I love it.
Like literally an office paperclip wrapped in electrical tape?
This is my question as well… any answers?
What gauge wire did you use to jump?
I'm just using a paper clip, not sure what gauge it is :)
One could cut the wires and solder them together for a more permanent fix.
In case anyone finds this question. 20 awg solid bell wire works perfectly.
Can i just use a paper clip exposed? Will i get shocked?
I don't know about that, but I think it's safe to use a vinyl-coated paper clip like I did.
Bravo!
What type of jumper wire would I need to buy?
I used a small paper clip, no need to buy jumper wire😀
Shisong Chen you’re a mad scientist, it worked! Thank you!!!!!
A paper clip did not work for me. What kind is being used on the video?
Same going back to petrol
Thanks for the tip. We were able to start the motor now by using the paper clip to jump the red and black. However, now the self propeller is not working. Has anyone else had this issue?
Yes. The mower is running after this fix, but self propel on mine is stuck on slow setting. After watching the video and reading the comments I remembered your comment about this secondary problem. I haven't had time to deal with it yet, but I'm thinking the third wire on the connector may have something to do with self-propel. Did you ever figure it out?
@@larryheflin1788 I'm currently having the same issue, any idea on a fix?
I'm having the same issue currently.
@@jaredbreslow2553 Nothing changed for me since my last post here a year ago. I just push the mower around. I was mostly doing that anyway to save battery time. Funny thing though, if I don't extend the handle it will operate at full speed. But when I extend it to where it needs to be for me to mow, it moves at the slowest speed, which is useless for mowing. I decided that I was done fooling with it. I don't want to buy a new wiring harness and I haven't wanted to spend the time to finish solving the problem. If I recall, I determined that there was a short in one of the wires that runs down the handle right at one of the folds in the wiring. I discovered this wiggling the wires while it was running. Having three hands would've been nice. I got it running via the paper clip trick, slapped it together, and have been too lazy to go back to it. It's appears to be a design flaw related to the way the handle folds and pinches the wires. I wish I could be more helpful, but I think that's about all I have at this time. Good luck. If you get further than I did, I'd like to hear from you.
@@jaredbreslow2553 and @Larry Heflin: It is a separate issue. The wires coming down from the handle to the Service Box get pinched right at the handle bending point by the Service Compartment. Those wires (which get the self propel not working properly) are rather thin (AWG24 I think ) wires colored RED, GREEN, and BLACK. They come from the speed control potentiometer in the handle to the Service Compartment. By continuity measurements, you can find the pinched wire(s) and patch them. Or order a new harness, or in my case I repaired it by using the sturdy ethernet CAT5 cable ( it was the cheapest solution).
