another option I think is just support scrapper - counters basically everything for you team - you got great cleanses for the burn dh and rene, you got projectile blocks and reflects, and if you want you can even go core,, and take the aoe moa elite, to screw over the minion masters
The funniest thing in the world is how Burn Guardian is bugged and is not putting out as much burning as it should, yet is still a meta build. Imagine the reactions to the patch notes if they fixed it. For anyone curious, the extra Justice passive charge from Symbolic Power doesn't work when the symbol hits while you have 3 out of 5 charges, or 1 out of 3 charges with Permeating Wrath. It sounds like a small effect, but it's actually a lot of burning stacks not getting applied that should be.
from the start only question is does GW2 PVP have rock paper scissors balance where if one style is meta another meta wins? or is it more Rock, better Rock, Paper meta where you have no proper counter meta against certain style? Good example is Moba games like LoL and Dota 2 having +50 heroes to choose from (maybe closer to 100) and there is set of heroes considered to be meta, but if you know current meta and how to counter it you can carry games by countering... There fore if everyone is playing meta you playing offmeta which wins against current meta you win but if somoene is running old meta that previously was ran but everyone counters it and you are weak against it you are countered making the game more alive? From 27 possible professions and elite specs if we count core is good number of choice for 5v5 :D but my understanding was that most corebuilds would need something to make them more viable? Someone talked that now Necromancer has Reaper and Scorch they should take look Core necromancer's Shroud and chance the abilities to be all range and not random projectile, fear and teleport next to enemies ?!? :D They could rework that and do similar things to other classes or something but if you buff core builds you might also buff elit specs so maybe we should ignore core builds but imo they are important for sake of new players :D I mean can you name all 9 professions with core build that is at least as good as weaker of the two elite specs? ^_^
some are definitely harder to counter and thats why they are meta, but off meta picks can definitely counter them, but those off meta picks wouldnt be good in every situation. For core you can check out my "what class should i play video, for what i think are good core builds"
Most core builds are viable nowadays however a huge problem is that every class has a lot of borderline useless utility abilities that need to be reworked. Even some of the elite specs.
@@Vallun What if they are running Necromancer, Mesmer, Engineer, Ranger and Elementalist with all minion skills... Is that even viable? basic necromancer minion build Mesmer is already clones and phantoms Engineer can run turrets and Scrapper has gyros Ranger could take spirits Elementalist Elite and lesser Elemental Glyphs Sure 5 Necromancers is most minions but I would love to see 5 different professions build minions for 5v5 pvp :D
You can also easily counter weavers with druid's immobilization based builds, specially if they're playing sword/dagger or sword/focus, just use Jacaranda + Entangle + Ancient Seeds.
Hey Vallun, You're last clip kinda shows your opinion when the enemy team stacks a build against you. Do you think that ANET could perhaps restrict players from stacking multiple spec's in ranked and AT? Kinda reminds me of the measures that blizzard did to Overwatch where they forced Two DPS/Two Tanks/Two Supports per game in order to kill the tank meta there. Would that kind of heavy handed curation help or hinder the game at this point?
hinder for sure. That last situation wasn't really about stacking op builds it was just better players winning AND having stacked builds. Stacking is usually not even that good, but the limitations they put in to prevent stacking would also make all the other games much worse
i think what he's trying to say is mesmers in general gives the most confusion, which is punishing for spec like ele weaver since they use a lot of skills. but yes, you are right, if you kill the clones fast enough before they can shatter you can survive the encounter.
Hello Vallun. A weird question I guess as a new thief but what are the best steals to go for? Do you prioritise certain builds solely for their skill to steal or is it pretty irrelevant? Any info would be much appreciated thank you.
vallun i have a doubt, that has been in my mind for a couple of days. i play power shortbow revenant, and i play usually around plat 1, and lately, some games i feel like i can not do anything. When the team is working, we just rotate and just zerg until we win. But sometimes, when we losing, we are not teamfighting, and i am not really sure what should i do. Like sometimes i would contest when someone tries to take our home, since my team is dead, i will go there, but then i am stuck in a 1 vs 1 that takes too long to win. But if i leave it then we will lose the node and someone will go there to contest and then we are one less person in the teamfight and people start to die too soon and we do not play safe enough Basically, after your videos, i know my role is a dps, but what should i do, when our composition, does not fill all the roles, or people refuse to guard the nodes and rotate properly? because a lot of team want to go far, to keep preassure, but then we lose the entire map if i follow too. i think i just do not have the proper rotations yet, understood.
dont worry too much about a job on your team not being filled, if you do your job well it can snowball into the other jobs. If you win team fights you can go kill the side noder at your home instead of dueling them. Better you do what youre good at then do what you arent. Play to your strengths not to theirs. Just because it seems like you need to do something right now, like hold a node, you still can have many answers to that later on. Also some matches are just unwinnable
For me, the issue is bigger than balance. It started with 3 shitty things Arena net did to their core players. First they said they would never make the game pay to win. Then they released elite specs that do EVERYTHING better, and get tons of boons and sometimes abilities not even related to their class, while nerfing core. And instead of players learning to counter like you suggest here, they dumbed everything down, gave players mounts with free stability and an extra health bar, and basically you can faceroll rotations on half the 'meta' builds out there with no skill whatsoever. Then they gave away the core game for free, in this altered state. Clearly in an effort to get people hooked and buying the more powerful expansions. But wait, it gets worse. With HoT they also reset everyone's guild unlock progress by switching them to be linked to a guildhall with no option to transfer any progress you made unlocking everything in core. You had to re-unlock a ton of guild content as part of Guildhall upgrades. Since time = money, they stole from players. Essentially "We're going to give you this cool time sink and fun distraction with a sense of progress and achievement...then take all that away and make you start over, because the EULA says we can." These things betray a pattern in their culture shift that can be seen in several other aspects of the game now, making it like every other money grubbing cash shop MMO, and far worse than GW1. Hell, play GW1 with all the great customisations and features you got for FREE, and most with no limits or unlocking. There is a STARK difference in how they treated players / customers then -vs- now. The only reason the game survives is because people are used to being treated as cash cows rather than customers. Hell, I don't know why I even still play it. Maybe for a few nice people still there. But the game died for me a long time ago when they did these things.
@@TiroDvD so minions got buffed to the point that their dmg is now relevant? And other than minions the build just revolves around on necros personal survival? So its a dueler?
@@simopalm1213 No. The more minions the tankier the Necro, which is already tanky. Plus there are tons of potential targets for the Necro to hide amongst. And the necro is doing it's regular condi-cancer on you.
I don't really agree about the weaver counters and how you played it on the footage since it is way more powerful than a lot of ppl make it sounds like... good vid' btw!
Renebow has strong condition cleanses: 5 in Jalis, 2 in the staff, 1 in each legend swap, 1 in each weapon swap, for a total of 12-14 each 30 seconds. With that + the amount of mobility and blocks, I'm not worried about condis while playing that build.
Hearing Vallun I think GW2 combat is so deep I'd like to play it but...It's too fast for all it's depth. I'd actually like to try and play a turn-based game of this.
That wouldn't work at all, and the fast paced combat is what makes it so fun and great to always be improving! Try the new Yakuza game if you want good turned based combat.
The main problem with renegade is that it will port on top of you through a wall and hit you with a ranged, unblockable, quickened, massive attack that knocks out half your HP on basically any build. Reflects won't work on unblockable stuff. Renegade shortbow also deals too much aoe since the autos are aoe by default. Also the shortbow 5 has too fast a cast time. But the real culprit and the reason rev is always broken is Shiro.
A better way of going about it is to phase traversal and knockdown then seven arrow or if you're in jalis, taunt them then seven arrow. Either way to they can't avoid the burst. And if they stunbreak and try to counter. Switch to staff just avoid a good 10 seconds of burst in a row while running away with superspeed. Also it's not so much shiro but staff. Staff offers revenant too many defensive options on top of their already loaded defensive options from sword, axe, shield, shortbow, shiro, jalis, kalla, glint, mallyx. While having the burst damage and speed to 100-0 anyone that doesnt react fast enough or no longer have the defensive options to react.
Burn Guardians really need to be X-d out; while there are certain counters to it, that kind of attack their 1-trickpony nature so they dont get too oppressive (as long as there are competent players with 'proper' builds around), they are flawed by design in a way, that they have a really unbalanced Skill:Payoff ratio: It is really easy to play and much easier to demolish whole teams compared to the necessary knowledge/skill to play around tor the need to build around them. So in the current meta you cannot play a versatile class, that may be good in several other departments (like a good mix of powerdamage avoidance, has lots of CC, good mobility, support, whatever) while not having an answer to constant application of bursty conditions (which is already silly in itself from a dev's PoV). Also a Burn Guardian doesn't really get punished for sloppy plays, for not landing crucial skill XY etc, due to the spammy nature of their really dangerous skills - while they are also laughably easy to apply. Sword symbol teleports you on top of your target, even through walls, scepter symbol has good range and aoe, torch 4 just deals it's damage passively and the summoned sword even has 3-4 charges. The most absurd thing about this is the kind of philosophy R&D wanted to enforce upon PvP/balance, by prolonging condis while also reducing the ticks/time, reducing the impact of passive effects, making CCs overall less dangerous/impactful by themselves etc. and then they let burn guardian/dh happen for that long time.. though there's also a build that can carry teams really hard vs condi classes with low amount of covercondis → shout warrior/sb with rune of the soldier/trooper. you can remove condis around you with no cast time and 'disarm' the traps with warhorn 5 or full counter
