This is probably pretty common knowledge but you can Hold L1 and R1 when you select Original Mode to access the Sound Module mode. There are 3 different modules you can choose from. The Original FM, and 2 others. The middle one sounds like SNES music and the last one is basically like Sega CD or Redbook audio.
The extra sound modules are designed for specific MIDI modules
Just downloaded this for PS3 and I’ve gotta say, this is the best version of the original Castlevania in my opinion. The arranged music is just stunning and the visuals are gorgeous with loads of neat background details.
53:34, I've been on a big Castlevania kick and am currently on Rondo and near the end. It's my favorite too, it really is as good as everyone makes it out to be. I played the first half with Richter and then went back and tried out Maria, it's so much fun playing as her, so damn quick. It's crazy to see the roots of SOTN, two flawless games as far as I'm concerned.
Had no idea this was the X68000 version. Thats my dream retro computer lol. Such amazing late 80s/early 90s ports/originals (many arcade and console games were developed on it and ported or released alongside)
I have this game and I still love to play it with my daughter!
Also once in the Sound Module screen if you hold L1, L2, R1 and R2 and hit start you will get the boot screen from the original X68000 version.
You could have gotten double/triple boomerangs by using the boomerang to destroy the candles when you're going back up and down the stairs for hearts. The more stuff you destroy with it, the more you get the multipliers...a pro like you should know that! :P
I also aways wanted to see this game, I remember it from the time I had the ps1 but never got to play it, thanks for playing it for us Mike!
And since you mentioned on the video the idea of the no whip challenge was really great! I really enjoyed the video and was cheering and laughing on this side. Congratulations and thanks for all the effort and good content you provide us!
No sub-weapon challenge for Castlevania would have been a better, more coherent challenge.
You could also do Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, Expert Mode, Trevor only, Sunken City of Poltergeists path. Type AKAMA as your name to start in Trevor only, Expert Mode.
To reach the Sunken City of Poltergeists, go down for both the second and third multiple path choices. Up or down for the first is whatever you want.
I've done that with Trevor and Sypha before, but never with Trevor only. It's insane!
This is one of the best CV games
A true hidden gem
43:31 'Giant Bugworm'
No idea how I missed this game when it was released and now I HAVE TO PLAY!
Oh man that game looked soo good. It doesn't look PS1 quality really, felt more like Mega Drive (Genesis) quality, or maybe 32x - Sega Cd, but it still looks like a better game than most early ps1 releases, as it's focused on gameplay more than 'hey but look this is 3d!' which was common at the time. And really felt like a reboot of the original game, 50% of it was directly from original game, and the other 50% was new stuff. I've only ever played the original castlevania but this game looks like it is as good if not better.
1:29:11 I wish I could listen to Mike's BRB stream screen on loop to go to sleep...love it
I watched Mike play the Clock Tower of doom for 1 hour. It was awesome.
Actually you can change the difficulty to easy, normal or hard for the arrange mode.
Note: Arrange mode hard is the hardest Castlevania ever made, challenging AF but is not impossible though.
My favorite old school Vania along with RoB and DC.
I'd argue RoB was the NEW school CV game. the first Metroidvania if you will...
In the room near the beginning where you learn not to whip the wall because almost infinite hunchbacks & space eyeball thing the roast is on the other side in the wall by the stairs.
Perfect timing at 5:26
Watching your videos all day really has a toll on my soul, and my hole.
Full travel! Something I've been waiting for a LONG time
Wow this game is amazing! Wasn’t really into Castlevania before but this game really turned me on to this awesome series.
For me it was Castlevania bloodlines
I’ve been saying you should play this one for years now. Glad you finally got to it, and can’t wait for a James & Mike Monday’s with this game.
Congrats Mike on passing this game and remember to keep beating on hard things.
that sounds wrong
I played through both original and arranged version about a uear ago. I didn't notice a big difference in difficulty
It looks like he's taking half damage compared to the original mode, so I'd say it's easier. I rage quit original at the Clock Tower, so I'm gonna try arrange mode soon and let you know for sure.
@@TheRetroRen by the way i think there is an item in the game that allows you to heal yourself. It looks like a leaf. It makes the game a lot easier.
The biggest differnece is the knock back in original version it's a bitch especially on the raft part
Oh Mike. This made me smile dude, right after making a video with macualay culkin, you make a castlevania video. Most people would have to gloat for five days.
Thanks man. I’ve always wanted to play this game. This is the next best thing.
The original game of Chronicles is pretty tough to me. :/
Love both yours and James' content. J&MM is the best and I hope to get to watch many more. I think my favorite episodes are Snes and Nes games.
Love that vinyl poster
Love this game - there's a time trial mode unlocked when you complete the game - keeps best times for each level. Original mode is tougher in my opinion.
3:21:20 best reaction from Erin ever.
Yooooooo!!! That double KO though!!!
An idea for James and Mike Monday - Clash at Demonhead (NES).
Another, Asuka 120% Maxima (PC Engine CD).
@YTCensorsMe Poop dude, are you seriously a kill joy or somthing?
Clash at demonhead is a great game.
@@Chamberz55 for real, that was a game i had a lot of fun with and it was even more fun when i got the hermits 5 forces
That boss was a real glasshole
It's kinda funny when Mike didn't realized that he can jump whip in down-diagonal directions XD
Now can you PLEASE play the GBA and DS Castlevanias?? 😖🙏
To make it easier for you:
GBA:
1. Circle of the Moon (has some REALLY cool level design)
2. Harmony of Dissonance (has really good music but with extremely lo-fi sound, which can be a little jarring)
3. Aria of Sorrow
DS:
1. Dawn of Sorrow (has an anime intro but the style of the actual game is mostly like Symphony of the Night, like all of these "Igavania" games that I'm listing now, AND it has a snowy town!)
2. Portrait of Ruin
3. Order of Ecclesia (answers AVGN's wish for a Castlevania game where the whole game doesn't take place in Dracula's castle!!)
that would be really cool, do it mike! plz?
Order of Ecclesia is probably my favorite Metroidvania-style Castlevania game. I feel like it has the perfect blend of the old and new styles.
Definitely Portrait or Ruin since gameplay is really interesting and you can pull off some broken mechanics with Johnathan and Charlotte.
ive always wanted to see this game! thanks mike!
@YTCensorsMe Poop i didnt wait for him to play it, it was just nice to see in my notifications that mike chose this title since i never got around to looking it up myself, im always working and he saved me a trip.
@YTCensorsMe Poop yep... it sure did
You can get a lot of free lives from points by killing the guys from the wall on first stage.
Mike I really think you should try to get your hands on the TurboGrafx 16 but if I remember correctly you DO have like the Turbo Duo i think? Well you should try and get the game Ys:Books I & II and do a live stream playthrough of that game!! If your a big fan of Zelda... especially like the original "The Legend Of Zelda" & "The Legend Of Zelda II" I think you would definitely love the Ys games it has amazing CD metal music and cinematic hand drawn scenes with voice acting that's actually not bad the one thing it may take you a bit of getting use to is the way you attack your enemies....it's not like in Zelda games where you press the hit button and Link swings his sword and it's not like classic RPG's either...lol you just simply walk/run into them and it has 2 meter bars one for your life and the other for each enemy you come in contact with.....which yes!! It seems really weird for gameplay to attack by just running into enemies but after a little bit you get use to it and to me...its actually satisfying to just run up on enemies (especially when your leveled up a bunch from numerous fights) and kill them with a couple bumps into them lol but I honestly think that game is definitely a hidden gem that I really think you would really like Mike Matei!! P.s. that's IF you haven't already played Ys: Books I & II before tho...
I bought this on PSN for a couple bucks. I got about 4 levels in and it just became impossible lol. Seemed like a fun game for a while tho.
Damn!! Lol so this game is really hard from your experience? I was thinking about buying it....but not if I won't even be able to get pass like stage 3 and just be stuck forever lol I've always HATED video games that were wayy too hard way to early in the game and it can even be a fun game but it's not fun when you've seen the same level for months and can't beat something so you can never get further in the game it's like such a waste it sucks when that happens
Also, did this game come out before the ps1 was released? Ps1 on 1994, and CC on 1993? Can somebody clarify this.
It is a port of a game originally released for the Sharp X68000 home computer in 1993 as simply Akumajō Dracula.
Good job mike, that was epic
Mike you can whip Downwards and Downwards diagonally in this game and its super useful against bosses
Actually Super Castlevania IV is a sequel to Simon's Quest's best ending where Dracula's hand pops out. The opening of SCIV was the lightning striking Dracula's grave, kickstarting his heart so he got to cheat the 100 year revival. Simon fought Dracula 3 times
Wrong it was dull localization changes, the japanese version (original release of course) clearly stated that it's a retelling of 1691 event/CV1
@@cps1247 yeah the localization team tried to make it a sequel.
Mike, thank you. Love your content, especially your castlevania vids.
This video is underrated af!!
Apparently the Super Mario Bros movie is 2022 now...
I love Lords of Shadow the best.
Under appreciated, especially since it’s the ultimate pre-quel
Did no one tell him he can whip up and down the entire time he played?!?
Turns out that your fans are going on wild goose chases with this Legend of Zelda anime thing. The creators of the Castlevania anime are actually making a Devil May Cry anime, not LoZ.
yeah sounded like a stupid rumour. I want a new Zelda 2 style game more than anythin ^^ A movie or a series could be good but could easily be absolute shit
I'm just happy they finally did atleast a remake of my favorite "The Legend Of Zelda" game of Link's Awakening!! Can't wait for that to come out only shitty thing is I don't own a Nintendo switch lol also can't wait for that TurboGrafx 16 Mini that's coming out next year they just announced 8 more games going to be included on it!!
Thx mike
2:51:58, 2:53:02 lol. Damn knife.
This looks awesome.
Why is Trevor carrying a machine gun? 13:00
Never heard of this game till I saw this lol
nah the reason why they make you play arrange its because the music are better
You should play through Dracula X at some point soon
rock solid He has it's on his other channel Cinemassacre Plays just type in cinemassacre plays castlevania rondo of blood in the RUclips search tab and you'll see that his playtough of that game are the first two videos that show up since he reuploaded from his Twitch streaming channel onto RUclips in a two part video
I just played through it. Finished it last night actually. It sucks.
@YTCensorsMe Poop oh, i guess you are a kill joy... don't strain a typing finger dude...
I had that ET record set.
always a big fan of ur gameply.....u are the best bro...
Castlevania 3 and the show both lead in to the plot of Curse of Darkness. You gotta play Curse of Darkness to see how the show links the two games Mike!
Funnily enough that horrible show didn't link with Curse of Darkness.
Baby Batter and Man Yogurt are the worst I have heard.
Aria of Sorrow is my favorite.
This game is hard as fuck. It's even harder than castlevania 3. Don't even bother with original mode. It's literally impossible. Even in arranged mode, you basically have to get lucky and just tank the shit out of every boss and hope you out damage them. I somehow make it to the stage past the doppleganger boss before rage quitting and nearly punching a hole the wall. It's one of the most bullshit games I've ever played. The enemy placement is so obnoxious and half assed. They could have designed it better. Kind of disappointing.
I believe I have this game
Geoff good gamer that's good because it's pretty rare. I wish I kept my copy of it.
You notice Mike is such a nerd he has to act like he's moving his glasses back up.
Mike Matei if you make your next playthrough castlevania SOTN I promise I'll subscribe!👍
great game but why the fuck hell is the volume so low?
Man I just gotta find and play that game, it's pretty fucking hard! I can tell just by looking
Castlevania: Bullshitcles
Starring: Turdrevor Belmont
3:50:19 this is why it is called Castlevania: Bullshitcles
WTF does arrange mode mean? What is being arranged and how?
Item placement etc. Resident Evil is known for having the same thing in certain game editions.
lol i played this on an emulator wayyy the fuck back in like 2004
"my childhood was spent watching fucked up shit on television"
childhood well spent mike
Harmony of Dishonest! Bahahaha Dissonance!
I bought this game by accident. It's fine.
Still waiting J&MM on this game...
You do a pretty good Dracula
I still consider castlevania 4 the best one.
My brother has over 2,500 video games from 8 different consoles I got 25 video games I better step my game up literally.
Good
What's UP, 10 innnnnch!? Great game, good to see you enjoying this. I remember the hassles this gave me as I beat this on Hard
Konami should release this on Xbox, but it is Konami, so it won't happen.
All i wana know is who da fuck is that 1 dislike?
if any one wants to know the comerical Mike is talking about at 3:35:02 is m.ruclips.net/video/Y-Elr5K2Vuo/видео.html
😱😱😱💓💓💓
Looks like cdi
Mike, why do you hate getting haircuts? It’s supposed to be a relaxing time!
its the most stressfull thing ever for me
💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎😎
Great stream and entertaining. I just want to point out something though. The swearing and cursing doesn't bother me that much. But it is when you use God's or Jesus's name in vain that bothers me. I just wanted to get that off my chest. Otherwise I love what you guys bring to the channels! I really want this game, but it is close to $100.00 or more complete. lol
atranfanatic wtf dude really?
@@clipcalhoon What is this in regards too?
good until the girl showed up
