I’ve bin on FTP since 2018 and the game wasn’t confusing at all.
I don’t get why they say it’s confusing, if they’ve played Halo like my friends, others, and I, it would be very easy. I wasn’t annoyed by any quality either since my TV was on high quality / color since I was having trouble in pvp. I can play pvp perfect now since I changed that and I’ve bin playing Titan since. The colors on the armor and the weapons weren’t hard to figure out that they were common, uncommon, rare, legendary, and Exotic. To me, Exotics aren’t really rare, I get over 1,000 Exotics per year as a Warlock and Titan main. During a 1v1 against my friend, he mocks me on Prismatic Hunter even though he’s played since 2023 so, I swapped to Teather Hunter and cooked lil bro and he was crying. The game overall wasn’t bad when I started.

@@שליויששכר It's totally different now, you end up in the cosmodrome and do some stuff covered in this video.
But the original story where you coming back after your ghost revived you, you had few memories if I remember correctly. You were hurt, no weapon, your health wasn't coming back and had to get through the city and find the farm. The early expansions even if the expansions were not super good did a much better job bringing all the characters together. You were also encouraged to explore the areas looking for hidden things, and piecing the story together.
Not to mention the expansions were maybe 1/3 or 1/4 the price of a season now. It's honestly getting harder and harder to justify the full season price.

Destiny is one of those games where you absolutely NEED a friend that is willing to walk you through everything. The game relies heavy on its community to guide new players rather than investing into having a decent new player experience.

But thanks to YT vids I understand the game and have joined a clan and done my first dungeon etc. But I spent most of the first few months spending all my time on YT learning how to play. Yes im also F2P and no one ever told me how to make a fireteam or how I can find people to group up for anything at all without relying on matchmaking, so I simply thought to get into a fireteam you either have to Q up for zavala stuff or crucible stuff and it fills the group for you (edit) and when i try to interact in chat there is either no one in chat or what chat am i supposed to be in, there are several colors of chat an none of them work for interacting with other people near you or even in a group, I have never once been able to interact with anyone through the chat feature except for when they message me to swear at me for being a noob, and you can tell I'm a F2P noob because my guardian rank only just hit rank 6. A game that relies on 3rd party apps IMO is an unfinished game, because you need a 3rd party app to make up for what the base game is lacking/missing or the game itself it inop without a critical feature, I tried talking in the chat feature in pvp quickplay because I didn't know what to do, there is no way to learn but to die over and over again. there was no one to answer and no teamwork so I guess everyone just splits up and runs around to shoot at the other team. I was in the military and that would never work in real life but I guess it's a game so there is no need to cover your 6 because you can just respawn?

I'm gonna be honest - I like level scaling because it makes every area viable in endgame, but during leveling it's nice to have some minimum level for certain areas for immersion (world building?) sake. Remember games like Morrowind that had areas and/or enemies that would kick your ass until you leveled up enough, and you'd want to come back stronger to test yourself?

I am a returning player introducing my fiancé to Destiny 2 for the first time and this video is EXTREMELY ACCURATE!!! A lot of our own sentiments were voiced during this video. From the story feeling very disjointed for a new light (I explained to her who Cayde was and after doing the mission that included him she was just like "Well that sucks I didn't even get to know him and he's just dead" and the lack of telling us how important guardian rank was. After watching a different video when searching YT for "what to do as a new player in Destiny 2 f2p" we were like "Ohhh that's really useful actually, why wasn't that more obvious??". As well as what the heck artifacts were. (They SHOULD be introduced with the battle pass or something)Also, I don't know if we missed it but WE think they never told you how to get your mount out. We had to Google it. AND WHY did they omit the information on ENERGY WEAPONS it's such useful info and it used to be apart of the original Red War tutorial. I love how thorough you were in this experiment. You've earned a sub for me for this great, honest and unbiased take on the current new player experience.

Those stories might not be perfect and confusing by some, but it was a perfect length to make new lights understand the basic of the game at the end of those 3 campaigns. With some tweaking and all, Red War alone could be a better experience to introduce light subclasses for new players, plus they can add legendary campaign for it so those players can also have a weekly pinnacle/loot grind every week.

All the while all he does is equip the suggestions I make, so I've had to just tell him to youtube because honestly I dont have the energy to do that everytime, nor can i make a godtier build out of something i dont use or know anything about. So take any advice you get to heart, you dont have to learn everything immediately, just go in WILLING to learn. Ive had friends whove done the opposite as well even friends whove been playing for a while, they have a different mindset so are alot easier to teach, less draining, im more willing to teach them if they need help again, but theyre also willing to go to outside sources if i dont understand something, and they become alot more knowledgeable and competent and alot faster progress as well just through that growth mindset.

As a recent new light myself probably the most confusing thing was just how the actual quest system works through the story. It's told in such a slapdash way when it immediately sucks you into the Neomunda campaign that I still don't really remember the character's names and get them confused when talking to veteran players. It feels like I'm trying to figure out why Zettadongu wants the sphere of Water Wisdom from the Chakakra plane to complete the Glue Confusion and I'm just sitting here wondering if this is supposed to be on the moon or the sun.
This is on top of trying to figure out; the whole quest/bounties interface, when to upgrade or ditch certain armors, what even are public events, how many times can I die to jumping puzzles. I was convinced for two weeks that "Divinity" was a hidden stat for people who ran Raids because I was told to "at least start getting it" which was hilarious to a few buddies.
I'm slowly getting better but it's been really rough, I still mash through both of the menus from time to time when I need to find something and it's hard to remember if I need the one that starts at the character menu or the one that starts on the map.
It's been fun though, so I can't complain too much.

the number of times you pointed out how a truly new player would be justifiably entirely confused as to what the hell was happening on every level, gameplay, core systems, customisation, story puts it at an outright F for me. a D is as high as I would go.
recently came back to Destiny 2 after not playing it since a little ways after launch, and the only way I could really grasp certain systems was by searching them, even with a foot in the door, a defaulted Guardian Rank at 6, and numerous other advantages, the new light experience is extremely discouraging.
particularly on the story side, the fact that we go straight from Destiny 1's Intro level repackaged as the New Light intro to the next story content we can access in the chronology being WITCH QUEEN, is utterly insane, new players aren't even given an INKLING of how this world functions.

Now I'm just busy being stuck on the fact that progression will be minimal or extremely slow in comparison to individuals willing to splurge real money.
PvE: too busy learning how to understand and formulate a viable class that I can navigate well enough to keep up and reap rewards in content where people destroy everything before I can get a shot off sometimes.
PvP: outside of iron banner I don't live for more than a few seconds with people that have not only progressed their gear in ways I have yet to understand, but the entire combat interface is strange and unenjoyable to me.
I.e. it's hard to understand why I do far less and take more damage than another person, and then once I did learn, it became displeasing to come to terms with how long it would take to progress in the same manner without paying real money. Some of us don't have spare change lying around to pour into a game like that.

I just started playing Destiny 2 about a week ago. I want to add some comments based upon what you experienced! I'll try not to repeat what you all ready say.
    * This game was picked because of it's multiplayer aspect, so right after we met Shaw we jumped into a game together. Took a hot minute to figure out how to get that accomplished.
    * Since we were in a fireteam, we couldn't do the rest of the tutorial where you were meditating... So yea, we were just confused for a while, and then we went back after the fact after we knew what was what. We didn't notice the trap glitches because we were just impressed to see traps in the game.
    * I forgot about Amanda until you mentioned her. Didn't even notice that there was a memorial, but I never go to the hanger.
    * There are just too many advancement tracks. I confused the Season with the Halloween event, I didn't know that overall power level even meant anything -- I just assumed if I had good guns I'd be good and if I had bad armor I should just git gud and not get hit, and I saw bounties at different people and assumed they all were quests that leveled you up (which I suppose is true, but I thought it would raise your guardian rank or something).
    * No one has celebrated my ranks ups with me :(
    * I knew Cayde was a big deal because of the massive amount of marketing around his death when that was the main storyline.
    * I had a bad taste about the eververse because that is 1/2 of what I remember people complaining about when the game first launched.
    * Outside of seeing a few exotics locked behind expansions, I was having A LOT of trouble figuring out why I needed to buy an expansion at all - the free roam was amazing and all the things to discover gave me and my buds more than enough to do up to this point. Not so much a complain but commenting on how much there is to do in the game for new players - and comment on how confused I was that certain story things seemed to be super important than just cut out or stop.
    * The Timeline is something I blocked from my memory, because it was just yet another new menu to add to the myriad of menu choices I'm all ready struggling with. Is it quests? Just text? A campaign access point? I'm just going to do another public event, I get those...
    * I deleted an exotic because of lower power... But I got some kind of special loot for doing it so I assumed that it was OK to do that. YT is what taught me about infusion, once I knew what to ask about.
    * I only knew about Xur because of YT. Honestly sorta felt like cheating the first time I found Xur.
    * I still find PvP to be intimidating. I'm just sooooooo glad you can accomplish quests just by trying instead of winning or even killing honestly. I have like 3 kills total in 5 matches. :(
BTW, your beginners guide was crucial. Thank you.

I never really considered how awful it was for new lights until the dares of eternity incident that happened a while back.
Back then I never put much attention into the new lights since I was still doing end game content.
I mean, playing the red war, osiris and the warmind DLC was more important to me and when it got vaulted I focused on what was available to me.
Being a veteran can have its flaws, means you sort of become blind to the reality that new lights don't get to experience the same stuff as us veterans because we've already gotten so far into the endgame content so we know what we're doing.
And usually we think "Well if we can get this far then the new lights will have no problem following."
The dares of eternity incident put that perspective out of the window, I realised just how bad it was when new lights were forced into dares and the whole community had to band together to help the blueberries.
I definitely tried to help as many as possible and once bungie resolved the problem I began to help some of the new lights in the cosmodrome and.. wow... it was much worse than I imagined, I played with some and asked them questions and they didn't really know anything about the director menu (i dont mention guardian ranks because this was before lightfall came out) or what to do next, the game barely even gave them a direction as to what to do, its like bungie expected them to open up the menu and go to the quest category.
I had to literally guide them myself and while it was tedious since I barely knew what the new light quests were at the time since I had never once touched them, eventually I memorised them and thats not even the worst part.
So parkour.. lets discuss that, naturally hunters have the easiest jump mechanic, just press A or Space if you're on PC and you'll jump, press A again and you'll double jump.
    Very simple for new lights.
Here's the issue, if you choose a warlock naturally you'll think it'll be easy since you've seen your friends float in the air, but for new lights they don't know anything about this, so I guided some through the riskrunner mission and when we got to the parkour section... it was a rollercoaster, every warlock new light I met could not even make the first jump because they didn't know how the warlock jump even worked (I don't blame them either because bungie actually suck at explaining the jump mechanic in detail)
It did take a while since I had to talk about timing the jump but I eventually helped a couple of warlock new lights through the quest, at that point I felt like I was trying to do bungie's job for them since bungie clearly didn't put enough effort into explaining each of the classes abilities in detail.
I mean.. jumping? Like thats the most used mechanic in destiny 2 and here I see new lights struggle because bungie can't even explain it properly to them.
Basically all of this is to show that even with every new update given to new lights, bungie just can't get it right because they're so used to the veteran community that they have that they disregard the new lights so easily as well.
This is incredibly sad since my actions are mere proof that the guide doesn't always work and its easier to have someone guide you through the tutorials rather than read things.
Quick message to every veteran: Some of you won't care and thats fine, I understand that many do hate new lights and I've encountered haters, I have no issues with that because even I used to despise them, but for those who feel they wanna do some good, help the new lights, they are confused blueberries because bungie won't teach them how to walk before running.
On a sidenote, removing the red war campaign was the biggest mistake bungie ever made, it was literally a whole tutorial put into a massive story, the red war needs to come back, it literally is more helpful than the new light quests.

      @Horrorpleb Год назад +3

@@Nb-ko5di It was known as 'Operation Saves the New Lights' a while back new lights were forced into dares eternity as soon as they made their character in the character creation screen, it was due to an error in an update for D2, and as you know new lights don't exactly start with the most powerful of gear.
Dares for new lights is way out of their league until they can get access to more powerful gear to increase their light level.
So tons of high light level players created 'Operation Save the New Lights' in order to get them through dares so they could actually play D2, the goal was to lower their power level as much as possible, load into dares and as a result you'd be matched up with the new lights, then you'd re-equip your strong gear and get them through it.

Agree with everything! I started my "Free to Play" experience a few months ago. Had I not any experience with D1 (albeit VERY little) I would have been even more lost. I'm still very confused about some things, and don't have any friends who play D2, so I'm still trying to figure things out on my own. A bit more tweaking of the current tutorials, limiting hints and such based on Guardian rank (and perhaps free vs paid content) would help immensely. Overall, I love it, and keep crawling back for more

I wish to add that two new Guardians I'm currently training spent hours in this game and never once did they realize you have to match your energy weapon type with the energy shields enemies have in order to knock the shield off faster. I never realized that the only time I think Destiny EVER mentions this is back in D1. It's incredible how much this game fails to explain anything important to new comers.

I was confused with all of the characters in the tower because there was no story, and I didn't understand who they were until I watched some videos. I don't remember ever seeing a timeline. Learning subclasses was another challenge because I had no idea what to do with the aspects and fragments.

destiny 1 from beginning the storymode to leveling up my gear through the vault to level 30 and later into crota was an experience i will never forget. just hanging out and messing around in tower while we waited to get to a raid together might be the thing i cherish the most. just jumping around doing jack nothing with my friends. i've been playing games since the early 90's. i can count on maybe two hands the games that i know i'll be thinking about in 30 years when i'm old and truly washed up. i won't spend a ton of time thinking about the games i played, mostly the places i went and the things i did with my friends and family. my dogs, the places i skied, the fish caught and the stuff i saw on my kayak and walking the beach every morning. but those games were experiences, they're places i went, things i did. and those friends can be like family sometimes, and i'll remember them. fortnite first few seasons, paragon, diablo 2, starcraft, arams with friends, i will cherish those memories like all of hte rest of my cherished ones.

Guidance notes and mod popups should unlock like triumphs. As soon as you unlock the relevant part of the game, the popup should show right then and there, and then go into your own personal popup playlist so you are reminded of all the things you now have access to, but nothing extraneous.
Could even be good for long term players; an exclusively PvE player who has never unlocked anything from Drifter, Shaxx or Saint-14 would get no PvP popups because they wouldn't be relevant. Not sure how it could be implemented with existing players, but it could make learning any new section of the game that much smoother.

I also think there should be a way to access the tips outside of the loading screen. Being able to sort them by category or difficulty and read them at leisure would be a big help.
I've been playing for almost 2 years and only last month had a tip come up that I needed to know in week one. I'd complained for a long time that the game should tell players that info, and it turns out that it does. That is, it does if you have good RNG in the tip screens or speed click through all of them at once. Not a good state of game there.
