If you had to have your guitar player (top 3 guitar players of all time) die in some retarded plane crash ... This is the guy to fill out your tour until you drink yourself into a good state of .... what were we talking about?
We seen Ozzy oy this tour Randy was still alive and kicking butt that night. We drove in a ice storm from Galesburg IL to Des Moines Iowa Vets Auditorium. This is the famous show where Ozzy bit the bats head off . I have a picture of Ozzy biting the head off the bat. We were right in front of the stage. I also seen Ozzy with Brad Gillis later that year . Brad had some big show's to fill and he played his butt off. Randy would have been proud of Brad. I met Zakk Wylde and show him the picture I had of Ozzy biting the bats head off and showed him my ticket to that show as proof. He invited me on his your bus and I told him about the show. He asked me who was better him or Randy. I told him no offense but Randy would kick. his rear. He t . Told me thank you for being honest with him. Do you actually have a picture of Ozzy biting the head off the live bat?? There are no known photos of that moment to exist- you should get in touch with Ozzy’s people- they would probably pay you good money for a copy of the photo.
Brad learned these songs in a few days and the first time he played with Ozzy was live in concert He nailed it and filled some huge shoes left by an amazingly talented musician in Randy If they gave out medals in rock n roll Brad Gillis would be deserving of the highest honor The fact he learned these very difficult songs so quickly to where he could pull this off speaks to how talented a guitarist and musician he is Very underrated Thank you Brad for pulling off the near impossible
Brad is a beast on the guitar. He tells the story of how he got this gig on YT. As a 15 yr old having never listened to Black Sabbath, the Sabbath songs on this album/tour were my introduction. It seemed strange to hear original Sabbath versions after hearing them here first.
Brad Gillis is not underrated. Players know he is a monster. Of all of Ozzy's guitar players I liked Brad the best, which is ironic because he's playing covers, but he executed them best.
My personal Diary I wrote the next day after the last show of Randy Rhoads in Knoxville Tennessee! RIP RANDY! YOU ARE SORELY MISSED! OZZY OSBOURNE: THURSDAY MARCH 18TH 1982: RANDY RHOADS LAST SHOW AT THE KNOXVILLE CIVIC COLISEUM: DIARY OF A MADMAN TOUR: Upon entering the coliseum after buying my tour shirt and ticket 🎫 stub processing: I noticed the stage was set up like a medieval castle with arches and bats 🦇 flying around the top of them. There was a staircase leading up to Tommy Aldridge’s Drumkit. The top left of Tommy was where Donny Airey’s keyboards were set up. Stage right and left had to cages with which Randy Rhoads would appear from the floor stage right and Rudy Sarzo stage left. OZZY had a throne of which he would appear out of to start the show to Over the Mountain. Tommy had his drum tech dressed as an Executioner stand beside his kit with his arms crossed. The staircase had a small section that would open and a small dwarf named: Ronnie (after Ronnie James Dio the new singer for Black Sabbath-replacing OZZY) and hand OZZY towels and water between songs. Little did we all know that later in the show: the executioner would bring the dwarf out to be hung from the rafters and later he would cut off his head using a guillotine! At the end of the show OZZY climbed onto a giant mechanical hand that OZZY stood on top of and launched unspecified meat 🥩 🍖 into the audience! Of course it was all an a theatrical act as the dwarf appeared to take a bow with OZZY and the band. When OZZY smiled we noticed he put vampire 🧛♀️ teeth in! We laughed hard! I went to the show with my friend Richard and his older brother Greg who was 18 at the time. We were 13. Greatest show on earth! Richard and I were both terrified and thrilled at what we witnessed! Unfortunately the next morning all that excitement and energy was gone as we learned that Randy Rhoads perished in a plane crash in Florida. Richard and I played drums but Greg played guitar 🎸 and he definitely took it the hardest! One of the greatest guitarist of our generation and had just won the new guitarist of the year by Guitar Player magazine. Rest In Peace Randy Rhoads your music lives on! Sincerely, Gary Lagstrom
Brad Gillis did a hell of a job, it was not easy trying to fit in Randy's shoes for this tour. Of course, it wasn't Randy playing, but Gillis gave justice to the best he could. Also, he has a style of his own and he deserves fucking respect.
Ah, 1984, anyone else (over 50,) watching this now. miss this period? Great years, when any rock/metal gig cost £10, and records (or tapes) around a fiver £5:00 😮😂😂 00
55 here and Yup, Ozzy with Randy was on tour when I was in 7th grade in 1982. I was too young to my parents to go to SF, but a classmate of mine went and saw Randy for the last time. I think Brad KILLED it on this and it's still my favorite "Sabbath" album. Brad is from here, the Bay Area, so Night Ranger filmed Sister Christian across the street from San Rafael High School.
You know that Ozzy re-recorded all his vox in the studio for this 'live' album? You can hear the doubling of the vox track effect as well - a favourite trick of John Lennon as well -
I missed this tour but well versed with the Speak of the Devil album. This lineup was one of the best. Ozzy’s vocals are irreplaceable. Brad, Rudy and Tommy were dangerous on this tour. Thank you for sharing this. Some of the absolute best love footage. 🤘🏾🤘🏾💥💥💥💥💥💥
My Favourite Early American Hair Metal Guitarist when Randy Rhoads is a legend : Randy Rhoads (Ozzy Osbourne) George Lynch (Dokken) Brad Gillis (Night Ranger) Jake E Lee (Ozzy Osbourne) Carlos Cavazo (Quiet Riot) Vivian Campbell (Dio) Jeff Watson (Night Ranger) John Sykes (Whitesnake) Craig Goldy (Dio) Andrian Vandenberg (Whitesnake) Warren DeMartini (Ratt)
Good list. I’d add Warren DeMartini and the Queensryche guys. All these players pre-date the “hair metal” by a couple of years. I always consider that to be the later decade, but that’s just me.
I bought tickets to this show. Randy was still alive when I did so after all that I was kinda worried but Brad did it. Like as close as you could get in my mind and he just did it all in such a short time.
Good concert. Good sound the guitarist did amazing work and really did a great colabaration with his talent .lm pretty sure Ozzy recognized that .....nothing to complain about ....moment madness in rock history !!!
Great show, my 2nd time i saw Ozzy on TV, JJ Jackson Friday nite concert, my 1st was on the King Biscuit flower hour which was a Randy show before he passed away. RIP Randy.
I saw Speak of the Devil tour 1982 Atlantic City convention center. We were all chanting Ozzy Ozzy and ran for our General admission tickets. I swear Ozzy was bald and he came out with a Silver War Helmet.
This was the same month I graduated High School up in Big Bear. Crazy times. We had seen Ozzy with Randy twice: Once at Day On the Green - July 4th, 1981 (with Heart, Pat Travers & the mighty Blue Öyster Cult [Ozzy & Randy debuted 'Believer' for us there] ) and then the EPIC show on New Year's Eve at the L.A. Sports Arena. They used this same killer set, and it was 100% one for the ages. R.I.P. Randy, great job Brad.
Slight correction, this was June 23rd, 1982. Final show of the tour. Source: Rudys book Off The Rails. Also there is definitely footage like this of randy. They recorded quite a few shows, and even more on tape! Ozzy always hated them because his vocals were always not up to par. Hence why they do not get released. Its all to protect Ozzy.
Watching this makes me so angry. Just mad. Only reason they released this is because it got leaked by someone beforehand. Imagine all the Randy footage the Crapbourne family is withholding. Brad was such a trooper. Incredible performance for an impossible task.
When i was little .. my dad used to play Speak of the Devil LP (the one thats all Sabbath songs) .... he said that once he was playing the actual album Black Sabbath and i said something like "why does it sound so bad?" lol i was very young
Believe me, the audience IS THERE! Unlike today's rock/metal audiences, where they just stand there with NO expression or stand there and record the show.
If they could record this then why is there no backstage footage anywhere of Ozzy in the 80s or is there ? Not one video footage recording studio footage backstage nothing dont get me wrong i love this footage but there has to be more
there has to be alot of pain behind that smile loosing his best friend 3 months prior. I mean thats got to be so fucking tough. Even at 32:16 that was him and Randys thing. true professional Ozzy is to keep the energy going.

Brad Gillis saved Ozzy and Sharon's career and never got the appreciation or recognition he deserved. Really fucking sad and pathetic
Brad’s as versatile as it gets. Night Ranger was his band though. He was there from the beginning and wrote a lot of the songs. They weren’t a metal band though, more Sammy Hagar styled hard rock. I was lucky enough to see the trio version of Night Ranger (reformed after the breakup) around ‘95 in a club in San Antonio. Brad covered his AND Watson’s parts. Absolutely played his ass off.
i think Jake was the best guitarist after randy ..brads good, he just uses too many whammy bar fills and whatnot..way too digitalized, almost like an old tandy 1000 pc from the 80s...plus he messed up lots of the solos, well he added stuff in the solos but most of the time its terrible u look at this vid and u want Randy to be on that side in this pro shot vid ...must of been sad....rudy himself left ozzy to go back to quiet riot not long after randy died ....poor randy missed out on so much in life.... RIP what brads wearing is similar to what randy wore.. hes wearing it on the night rangers album cover...i heard that that was randys here that we see...but idk, Randy was a petite guy when in doubt, pull ur whammy out...brad sure did that
And Brad Gillis did a Fucking Great Job,!
Yep!

Brad in fact had a few weeks to learn them
Who's here for Gillis?
Brad did the impossible on this tour.
Randy Rhoads looked down on Gillis from the heavens above and enchanted Gillis’s mighty red Stratocaster to give it superpowers
