I’ve had a DF2.1 for 14 months. I’ve averaged 27 putts per round. I play 4 times a week. I went from a Scotty to the big ass “spaceship”. It took a bit to get used to the looks, and while I’ve missed plenty of putts (1/3 are misses), they were from the wrong speed or line. I have only felt like I twisted the face 4 times. I also went 22 rounds between 3 putts once. I can’t drive the ball worth a crap, but this putter is awesome. It will only be replaced with another L.A.B. putter. Strokes Gained Putting is +3.53 for the year. Best round was +5.98. I’ve been a great putter for 20 years, but a streaky putter. This putter has made me consistent.
**spends multiple videos talking about how his driver is holding him back** **gets $1000 putter to fix his game** He's just like us :') **Serious note - great content and I know you'll be breaking through any day now. You got this!
I've had the DF3 since it released, and I love it! It's not just about the putter, it's the confidence you get in the putter. Knowing you can make a not so great stroke or strike and it still be good.
Hands down the best tech in golf, IMO. The putter is the most used and arguably most important club in the bag. I’m an early adopter and have been using the DF 2.1 before it became lab golf. Bought mine from Bill Presse personally. I’ll NEVER understand the “I don’t like how it looks crowd.” If it works, use it. This technology WORKS. ❤️👍🏻
I bought a LAB Mezz 1 Max 6 weeks ago and I cannot put it in bag … question is whether I ever will. It is a far different experience than my Rife 2 bar. It is truly difficult and frustrating to figure out, and I’m not alone. Main problem is lagging and lack of feel for distance. When Ben says you can’t feel the face, you are in fact the Weeknd LAB putters … I hear 3-6 weeks is break in time … I’m about to give up
So relatable, have tried the Mezz Max for about a year (& in competiion) and it was a mayor mayor disappointment. Distance control is absolute horror. Consistancy a mayor problem. Contacted LAB and they advised a Link 1. Tried it, felt better and more "normal" but no/little succes in scoring. Bartered my fairwaywood for a Rossie and all good again. Guess the hype is not for all of us.
Would like to see you try the PXG Allan. Looks wise I think it looks more like a traditional mallet, Curios if results would be same with a better look!
“I just wish it didn’t look so horrible”. Great line, I got a good laugh there 👏. I just switched to an ugly set of irons and playing the best golf of my life, golf is hard enough… Putt away bro!!
Got the OG spaceship this year and has absolutely changed my putting. Went from losing 5-7 strokes a round putting to 0-2 strokes lost and even sprinkle in a round here or there where i actually gain which had never happened in the 3 yrs of keeping stats with arccos.
Hello. I currently use a phantom 5.5 and have decided to buy a DF3. Since you have also used the Phantom before, I was wondering about a few things. Which shaft do you use on your DF3? Do you have a standard head weight? How does it feel in terms of weight compared to the Phantom. I live in Norway and am not allowed to test it, so it would be great if you could answer me. Really like your youtube channel 🙂
Nice review, what style of putter are you ( straight or Arc)? Do you find it differs depending if your left or right eye dominant? Trying to work out my style so just curious.
Geez there’s some haters in these comments about a putter they probably heave never tried. 😂 As someone who actually went through the LAB fitting, I can honestly say it has improved my putting significantly especially within 6 feet and my 3 putts % is almost zero since making the switch. It does take a little while to trust and definitely need to get custom fit. It’s only $1,000 when you upgrade to that tpt $400 shaft. I got the df3 w/ the accra for $600 and love it!! Looking forward to seeing how it works for you in competition!
I've got a DF3 and absolutely love it. I can't imagine it leaving my bag for long. After a couple of rounds, I don't even see anything but the alignment marks on the putter, don't even notice how it looks. Also my hat showed up yesterday, Stoked to rep Always Press on the course today.
It’s $1000 for the most tricked out version. You can get the base model for $500. I just shot my lowest round once I switched to this. Went from a 81-82 average round to shooting between 75-79. This putter is the real deal! I have played about 19 rounds with it and my putting feels like it’s on autopilot.
Being a now convert to lab. I cant help but think that you not feeling the face is do to the shaft. Those tpt shafts are so insanely stiff that no wonder the face seems non-existent. I have the stock shaft and the face feels so soft and i know where it is everytime. Just goes to show you dont necessarily need the $400 upcharge.
How about the new reverse taper putting grip by golfpride. Most people that use it say its a game changer and its 29.95$. I felt the same way after I installed and used it.
I have the Link.1 (blade LAB) Might be the tech or placebo but definitely putting better with it than my Newport or Ping Tyne H. I’d say stick w it for a while
It's 1k because of the $400 tpt shaft Upgrade. It's a dope shaft but the other ones are balanced the same so it's really a $600 putter which yes is a lot but not insanely above the big boys. Plus the technology is something that a custom scotty won't have
I just got df3 and omg what a game changer first four rounds with it had 28 26 29 and 26 putts it’s ridiculous I’m going to enter more tournaments now that I feel great with a putter 😊
Hey Ben, I am like you I have played with lots of different putters before getting my own lab putter. My lab put it is the DF three as well and I am in love with how it is performing for me so far. just stick with it. Keep putting and enjoy.
I experimented with the previous model of this LAB putter last summer and the problem that I had with it was it wasn't good on slower greens. Worked great on fast greens I never figured it out why it didn't perform on slow greens so I went back to my Scotty Cameron Futura 5.5M. I do think that there is something to the LAB DF3 technology and certainly is worth me trying it again. The other good thing to mention to anyone who is reluctant to try the LAB putter is that while it was very expensive to purchase I was easily able to sell it for what I paid for it. So the resale value is excellent because of LAB's good reputation.
got mine fit online and ended up with the bgt shaft, press 3.0 grip..greatest golf investment i have ever made. anyone who hates on these did not go through the recommended fitting process.
I use the original DF 2.1 and thought it was hideous at first, but it really grew on me. love it. the tech is worth it no matter what it looks like. and I think you'll come to find it endearing like an ugly little puppy
3 years ago I was remotely fit for the DF2.1 the ugly branding iron. the lie angle balance definitely works BUT couldn’t get used to the huge footprint and sold it within a year. Now I’m very interested in the DF3. Last summer I ordered the limited edition jailbird versa 380 putter for $400. It’s counterbalanced more so now since I had it cut down 2 inches to 36 and had the fitter put a 50 gr weight plug and 3 wraps of lead Tape into the butt end. Now it’s very counterbalanced and weighs 690 grams. Great on long lag putts but a little too much for shorter putts. I have a slight arc in my backstroke and Being it’s face balanced I feel some of my short putts are going left for these reasons. Might get into the DF3 next year and maybe go counterbalanced too. I’ll see what LAB recommends
Balance is key. I tested a Mezz for the last 5 rounds...missed one putt inside 5', two inside 6'. Missed no putts inside 6' at my first U.S. Open Senior Q. I had been critical in the past, but no longer. My custom Mezz will be here this week.
I have been trying to get my hands on a link1 I guess I would take a df3 too. But hard to find for decent price. And I don’t know which of mine I would sale. The phantom 5.5 or the studio design 2.5 I have been putting crazy good with the 5.5 but I feel there is even a little more in the tank to squeeze out
I just picked up a DF3, counterbalanced, with the same TPT shaft. It does indeed feel really amazing, can't wait to roll more putts with it. I feel like the no torque plus counterbalanced just makes the putter feel so easy and glidey through the stroke. Love it!
Are you still using this df3 putter, is there improvement over regular putters? How's the feel on the TPT shaft? More clicky? I found the Accra shaft too soft feeling.
@@giomusah2155 Yep still got it! I think zero torque is indeed an improvement over regular putters, but I don't have any actual data from myself or others to back it up. I'd suspect that if you're used to having the torque there may be an adjustment period. For me, the feel on the TPT shaft is exactly what I want. Not super firm where it feels like you're slamming the ball into a wall, but not super soft like the Accra, which I hated too. I'd describe it as snappy, firm but not brick. It's nice!
@@TonyRotella Thanks. What do you think of newer putters with similar concepts like zero evenroll and Allan pxg putter..Do you think they are zero torque? on LAB revealer, it wiggles a bit, but on PXG's 'revealer' it shows it's zero torque. As a consumer I'm confused..If it's the latter, I would prefer to save 500 bucks from a lab df3 tpt for a 500 dollar zero torque putter. thoughts?
@@giomusah2155 I would assume that the PXG lies somewhere between zero torque and a bit of torque. LAB has to basically go out of their way to hand balance every putter with all the little weight ports in their revealer to make sure they're zero torque, and I can guarantee PXG is not doing that. They're mass assembled on a line like all the other putters. What that means is that they're going to be subject to manufacturing tolerances on the head centers of gravity, shaft weight, length and straightness, grip type and weight, etc. I would guess they're only going to perfectly balance at whatever the stock lie angle is (and only on putters where the tolerances stack up right) as well, because if you bend it, the shaft axis will no longer run through the exact center of gravity of the head. LAB also claims that the PXG revealer is higher friction, and that's probably true, as the contact point is higher up the shaft than in the LAB revealer. So it's likely the PXG will have a small amount of torque - the real question is whether or not you think it will notice or affect your score, and if it's worth going all the way with LAB to get exactly what you want. You also might just find that you like the feel off the face or the alignment over the ball of one or the other.
@@TonyRotella is there a way of quantifying the difference in torque from PXG vs LAB? Say, 20percent difference--or this kind of test is 'subjective'? I don't mind paying a premium but I also don't want to fall into excessive marketing hype..Also if zero torque is an advantage, why don't you see pros using it?
I have the Mezz 1 putter and it rolls very well on fast/medium greens but on super slow greens hard to get it rolling...does feel bit soft off the face...but better putter then the Cameron Futura 7 I was using.
Hey Ben, Would you fancy comparing the Link1 to the DF3? I think it's a video that would interest a hell of a lot of guys and gals who just don't have space in the bag for a DF3...I tested the Mezz.1 and was really impressed but I always worry how these bulkier putters will perform out of longer grass... Something that is important to me given my very yippy shortgame!
I had a LAB and ehh maybe I should have kept it but I hated the feel if it, so went back to my S.C. I’m currently having a Mayoux putter built to my specs, which I feel like will be a big game changer for me!
I got this exact putter this spring. Ive struggled with the figure 8 backswing with every putter I have ever tried. Ive been fitted to every kind of toe hang putter and nothing fixed that. Over a putt, my mind would be completely focused on pulling the putter away straight back with no jumping in or out and as a result, I missed a lot of lines and had speed issues. From the moment I got this in the mail that is now fixed. Completely gone, zero issues with my stroke or face control. Now, I can concentrate on line and speed which, as you say, makes it seem simple. Quieter more confident brain over the putt. I did have some minor stance comfort issues with the ball so far forward, but that only took a couple days for it to look and feel familiar. Honestly, feels like a cheat code. I still miss my share of putts because, I suck...but you cant engineer talent. I skip to the greens to putt now. I LOVE this thing. Also, it really starts to look good after a while.
If you are trying to score low for a living go with the putter that makes that more possible. I play forged blades because I like the challenge of hitting good shots with them...I don't compete against other people for money or fulfillment.
I made 17 straight 12 foot putts at the equipment store with a DF3 this past week and walked out of the store as a proud owner. Looking forward to getting out on the course. My old putter is an Anser 2.
Some mallets when they first came out were considered "different". I love the look of the DF3. I bought a Toulon Atlanta a couple years ago and now find myself wanting this one.......
Just purchased the DF3 after missing several putts inside 10 feet over the weekend, mostly a result of pull. Hopefully it will eliminate some of the pulls/pushes in the stroke. Unfortunately I still have to read the greens 😉!
My very first putt too was short. Said the same thing.....soft off the face. I liked that immediately.....so I bought one. I will never go back, I'm converted. More I use my DF 2.1 the less I notice anything other than the white T-line alignment aid. Only concern I have is speed control on those downhillers on 12 speed greens. I'll typically strike it off the toe to deaden the roll.....but damn these LAB roll it so nice even off the toe. I'm playing 10 greens now and have no issues. We'll see when I'm back in the desert where the greens are fast. I like your channel.
I’ve been using the Mezz 1 max broomstick since last August. The conversation with the people I get paired with usually goes something like, “what is that, why did you start using that?” on hole one to “so where did you get that, how much was it?”, by hole 9. 😅
I dont know why so many people get hung up on the "look" of a putter. I would putt with a boot on a stick if it meant I made more putts. The game is about lowest score!
I have the same putter (and shaft). It isn't a magical cure for a bad stroke or bad green reading - but it certainly does help you simplify. You can do a free video fitting with L.A.B. to get your lie angle. If you are lucky enough to around their stock offering, you can buy the putter for the same price as a generic Scotty - and for that I think it's a fantastic deal.
I understand it, and a lot of people love them. I don’t like the feel or the sound, and it gets caught in the rough and fringe more than I’d like…but my testing was with a DF2.1, I’ve heard the 3.0 improved that a bit. Anyway, that’s my 2 cents. I don’t hate them, but my Miura stays.
I've tried a few different putters, if I can't feel the face it's really hard for me to gauge speed. That's where my putting needs help, so I switched back to SS face and love it.
I’ve been using blade putters for the last 8y. Went chunky with an Odyssey Triple Wide 2y ago. Improvement, but still poor results. Bought a used Mezz Max w LAGoof shaft a few months ago and both my confidence, consistency, and results have drastically improved. No spotty performances, really improved. Will be testing out a DF3 at my first opportunity. Love the Mezz, but if the DF3 is slightly better, I’ll upgrade just for the ball retrieval capability
Met up with the OG owners when it was direct force in Carson city Nevada. Look back and kinda regret not getting into it in like 2016-2017. But now is something I am heavily considering putting in the bag
NGL, those putts are impressive, and I think you do whatever it takes to shave off strokes. This is looking to be a great fit for you, so go for it! If I am going to compete in tournaments and the stats don't lie, I'd get it in a heartbeat too!
I have the DF2.1, love it! I'll bring upgrading to the DF3 at some point. It made a shit-putter like me into an ok one. I can only imagine what you're going to do with it, bro!
Love me some LAB as a golf tech nerd, but 2 deal breakers for me when I played the 2.1 branding iron. 1). It’s windy we’re I live and that giant head acted as a sail 2). I was consistently short on my local muni greens. I could NOT train myself into taking such a long stroke to get the ball to the hole
For someone chasing a pro card I think the looks and price are acceptable. If I saw a 20 handicapper using it on a weekend I’d probably think they could have spent the money better.
Ben, you don't buy clubs based on looks, but performance! Why do you swing the current Driver in your bag? Hopefully, it's not because you like the colors?
Got fitted for a DF3 last week. I tried 4 different LAB models. Seriously, the hard part was picking one. I could have picked any and got the same great result. I was putting using a TRACKMAN from 10 feet at the fitting. Not lying, I hold at least 80% from that distance. Okay, the surface was dead flat and a putting mat, but still.
$1,000 is steep! Definitely not for me and my wallet. But if you're a pro, or just someone with a lot of extra cash, and it helps you get to that next level, it's absolutely worth it.
I’ve had a DF2.1 for 14 months. I’ve averaged 27 putts per round. I play 4 times a week. I went from a Scotty to the big ass “spaceship”.
Got mine about 3 weeks ago and i love this thing
I have the Mezz 1 putter and it rolls very well on fast/medium greens but on super slow greens hard to get it rolling...does feel bit soft off the face...but better putter then the Cameron Futura 7 I was using.
Hey Ben, Would you fancy comparing the Link1 to the DF3? I think it's a video that would interest a hell of a lot of guys and gals who just don't have space in the bag for a DF3...I tested the Mezz.1 and was really impressed but I always worry how these bulkier putters will perform out of longer grass... Something that is important to me given my very yippy shortgame!
Great putter review. Need to see reviews because of cost these days of putters.
Logan called. He want's his ankh back.
I’ve had this putter about 2 months this ago now. I literally could not imagine using anything else
why not try the link 1
L.A.B. is going all out with all these putter commericals I mean YT reviews.
If you are trying to score low for a living go with the putter that makes that more possible. I play forged blades because I like the challenge of hitting good shots with them...I don't compete against other people for money or fulfillment.
Love U Ben
I got my results from the online fitting yesterday and ordered a LINK.1
What's looks got to do with it.....the only thing that matters is the number in the box. Oh and the price!
What putting mirror is that?
DF3 has changed my game completely. It’s insane.
I have the blade version. Had to get use to it but now really loving it.
It tried it with upgraded shaft and feels good , but just can’t leave my Scotty
Try the Link 1 and Mezz love to hear the comparison, two more easy videos for you
I understand it, and a lot of people love them.
Can’t help but notice you’re wearing a Primo shirt.
NGL, those putts are impressive, and I think you do whatever it takes to shave off strokes. This is looking to be a great fit for you, so go for it!
If I am going to compete in tournaments and the stats don't lie, I'd get it in a heartbeat too!
Recently switched to the LAB link and it's probably the best purchase I've made in golf in 20 years. My SG in putting is on the up massively now
I have the DF2.1, love it! I'll bring upgrading to the DF3 at some point. It made a shit-putter like me into an ok one. I can only imagine what you're going to do with it, bro!
Surprised a shop had an upgraded lab just on the floor
Love me some LAB as a golf tech nerd, but 2 deal breakers for me when I played the 2.1 branding iron.
1). It’s windy we’re I live and that giant head acted as a sail
2). I was consistently short on my local muni greens. I could NOT train myself into taking such a long stroke to get the ball to the hole
For someone chasing a pro card I think the looks and price are acceptable.
If I saw a 20 handicapper using it on a weekend I’d probably think they could have spent the money better.
the question is do you want style or performance.. if i was dropping putts with a pushbroom... but missing with a cameron.. i'd be using a broom
💯% you can’t feel it. It’s so balanced there is no resistance. that’s why lag putts are so difficult.
I just put a DF3 in the bag. Game changer.
Do you have a L.A. shaft in it? That really makes it expensive. I have liked that putter for a long time. Keep grinding.
$1,000 is steep! Definitely not for me and my wallet. But if you're a pro, or just someone with a lot of extra cash, and it helps you get to that next level, it's absolutely worth it.
